1

Android enthusiasts are really very eager to own Android latest Ice Cream Sandwich. And finally, the highly awaited Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update is available for Samsung Galaxy S II in the UK. However, Samsung persisted over its promise that the company will roll out the Android ICS update in Europe before the end of March this year. The update is presently available only on  O2 operating carrier in the UK, while S II owners on other networks such as Vodafone, T-Mobile and Orange, will have to wait for sometimes till the next announcement of the company. However, the Company has not yet officially declared that when it is going to launch the update in the US.

The company said in its press release, “ICS for Galaxy S2 will be available today in Europe, including Poland, Hungary, Sweden and Korea & gradually roll out to other markets. Samsung Electronics has completed upgrading the Galaxy devices to Gingerbread last year by providing software upgrades to both Froyo and Gingerbread. With the ICS upgrade, Samsung Electronics has solidified its position as the leader of Android devices.”

Some other devices which are going to be updated including the Galaxy Note, Galaxy S2 LTE, Galaxy R, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus 7.7, 8.9 and 10.1. The firmware updates for Gingerbread devices such as Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab 7”, Galaxy S Plus, Galaxy S SCL (Super clear LCD), and Galaxy W, will also roll out at the end of this month. It’s quite obvious that why Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Nexus were among the most popular device in the last year. Indeed, the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade will definitely make the device more competitive and will bring refinement for users.

Beside Samsung, HTC has also brought Android 4.0 update for  its “Vivid” model, which has been availed by AT&T carrier in the US. I think, AT&T has become the first carrier to bring Android 4.0 update in the US.

In addition to this, AT&T has also released the list of devices that are going to be updated in future such as Motorola ATRIX 2, Motorola ATRIX 4G, LG Nitro, Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, Pantech Burst, Pantech Element, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S II and Samsung captivate Glide.

Why You Should Not Purchase Cheap Android Phones?

1

Are you still planning to own cheap Android Phone? If you are planning so, then please don’t purchase, I could understand the pain but it’s prudent to not buy the cheap Android Phones. But I also suggest you to buy Android powered phones like Galaxy Note tabletphone, Galaxy Nexus and Droid Razr MAXX—which might be somewhat costlier (nearly $299) for you but these are trustworthy to own.

Undoubtedly, there is a fierce competition between iOS and Android worldwide. Android powered phones are being manufactured by different manufacturers and most of them are just focusing to lure folks by anyhow rather than to make quality products. But, some of the players like Motorola and Samsung are trying to contend the rivals with the quality of products, however, the price carried out by these players are somehow in the budget of folks.

Cheap Android based Smartphone manufactures are just focusing on the numbers of users in order to improve their profit margin. They want to try and won the race by anyhow at multiple levels. Generally, price-sensitive users are being attracted by these predators. And at last, they are starving from the real mobile experiences as Samsung and Motorola and few other Android manufacturers are providing in their handsets. The penetration of cheap Android devices is increasing day-by-day and which has shabbily affected the customers’ satisfactions.

After subtle investigation, you might find that Motorola, Samsung and few other manufacturers are indeed more relying on the flagship devices and also, they are more emphasizing on their products lineup. On the contrary, cheap Android manufacturers don’t care about their lineups. These manufacturers are releasing dozen of models (which are almost the same) in the market every year. However, cheap Android phones are privileging updates frequently and quite support to the third party accessories.

If you once purchase the phone, it is understood that you will not have any need to purchase the same for two years.  It has been noticed that users are often attracted by cheap Android Phones manufacturers–claiming to provide 1.2GHZ CPU, dual-core processor or 512 MB of RAM less than $100. If you are managed to pay $70-80 for a Smartphone then what’s the botheration to pay $100 priced to the reliable Android powered phones. Think, you are purchasing the devices for two years and better mobile experiences should be in your priority list.

There are plenty of qualities in the $100 phones which are widely available across the world. Presently, Nokia is offering Lumia 900 at just $100, in addition to this, iPhone 4 is also available at just $100 now. If you are Android fan and tech-savvy too, I will suggest you to go through the flagship models rather than cheap Android models in the markets.

I accept that cheap Android phones are being offered by different manufactures to fulfill the requisite of folks who cannot afford to buy expansive Android Smartphones. That’s why, the penetration of cheap Android phone are augmenting worldwide especially in the emerging markets.

India Mobile Services Market To Reach USD 30 Billion BY 2016 [Study]

2

Recently, China has surpassed 1 billion mobile subscribers and India is yet to achieve the milestone destination. India had 894 million mobile subscribers by December 2011. A research analysis firm “Gartner” has reportedly projected that the total mobile services revenue in India could reach to USD 30 million by 2016. The firm has also said that the average revenue per users (ARPU) seems stable in India since 2011—However, in  between 2008-2010 the ARPU declined by two-digit.

Gartner’s principal analyst of Consumer Technology and Markets—Shalini Verma—said, “The staggering growth of mobile connections has been driven by the expansion of mobile services in semi-urban and rural markets and the availability of cheap mobile devices. However, the other performance indicators of the Indian mobile market seem modest in comparison to those of markets such as China.”

According to the firm, India is far behind of China in the aspect of mobile service penetration, and also, the ARPU of India is one-third of China. However, India has lowest ARPU compare to the other part of the world.  The firm has also predicted that the mobile service growth is currently at 51%  in India and it’s expected to grow to 72% by 2016. In November 2011, the mobile penetration was 73% in India, while 71% in China (expected to grow to 119% by 2016).

There is a huge opportunity for investors to generate mobile data revenue in India because there’s still a low penetration of broadband services and mobile users are often using their mobile device for online services. In a previous report we have demonstrated how mobile web traffic is increasing year-over-year and how it has effected to PC web traffic?

According to the Garner’s recent report the broadband household penetration in India is lower than the other emerging markets worldwide. India has just 6% of broadband household penetration compare to average 16% of the total emerging markets worldwide.

In India, still 90% of mobile subscribers are using pre-paid services, and presently, Indian mobile operators are seeking for an ‘out of box’ ideas in order to improve margins and control operational cost, which is possible only when the penetration of post-paid users will increase.

Mobile broadband is expected to be the necessity for folks in upcoming years. However, mobile operators are also moving to invest the amount in order to grow mobile data revenue across the country. There are lots of challenges for investors such as pragmatic nature of middle class, however, the increasing number of IT professional and services oriented companies across the country has created a greater opportunity for investors.

Why Has Amazon Decided To Launch Three Different Models Of Kindle Fire This Year?

2

A linger discussion over the size of the Tablet has been sparking out worldwide since the last couple of years. A number of rumors across the world has recently speculated that Apple is going to launch its mini iPad in second half of this year. However, Samsung has always been experimenting over the screen size of its Galaxy Tab lineup. Now, Amazon is also in the queue to launch three different models of its Kindle Fire Tablet (having different screen size) this year. The Taiwan Economic News has reportedly revealed that Amazon is going to launch two new 7-inch devices and an 8.9-inch Tablet this year. It seems that the company has targeted to all the segments (low, medium and high-end) of the market worldwide.

According to the Taiwanese news site, Amazon’s three models are offering varying resolutions– low-end 7-inch model  has  resolutions of 1024 x600 pixels, medium- range 7-inch has 1280×800 pixels, while high-end 8.9-inch model featuring 1920×1200 pixels.

Amazon has reportedly signed an agreement for flat-panel displays with Taiwanese assemblers Quanta, Prime View and Chimei Innolux, while it has exclusively signed an agreement for the supply of 7-inch touch sensors with Chimei Innolux.

Amazon’s Kindle Fire sold 6 million kindle Fire (however, it’s not yet declared by the company) and ranked second in the Q4 last year, came after Apple’s iPad sold 15.4 million iPad in the same period. Apple was somewhat susceptible about its screen size after runaway success of Amazon’s Kindle Fire Tablet and rumors unveiled that the company planned to launch its mini iPad this year.

But now, the condition has been changed, Apple’s new iPad has outstandingly performed everywhere and recorded over 3 million Tablets sold in just three days. I think, the sales figure of Apple’s iPad has worried little more to Amazon and that why, the company has decided to launch the Tablet for all targeted customers. Recently, Barns & Nook has also planned to release its Nook Tablet across the World at the nominal price in order to contend kindle Fire.

Indeed, It’s the time for Amazon to re-frame its strategy because Google is also going to launch its Tablet with maximal features at the nominal price this year. Do you think, this is the safe time for Amazon to do experiment with screen size?

Nokia Lumia 900 To Hit The Market On April 08th At Just $100: [Report]

3

Windows Phone based “Nokia Lumia 900” was rewarded as “Best of CES” for all Smartphone at MWC, Barcelona, this year. It might be a good news for Lumia 900 fans that the company is going to launch the awaited Smartphone on April 8 at just $99.99. In this way, Nokia Lumia 900 will be the first Windows based Phone in the world which will offer 4G LTE. However, the company has claimed to provide largest 4G LTE selection on AT&T services. We might say that Lumia 900 is another mementos of Nokia-Microsoft marriage occurred last year.

Senior vice president of devices at At&T Mobility—Jeff Bradley—said, “AT&T and Nokia’s relationship spans many years and we’re thrilled to introduce their first 4G LTE Windows Phone only for our customers. The Lumia 900 is impeccably designed with clean lines and a camera that rivals stand-alone digital cameras on the market today.  Combine that with the people-first Windows Phone experience and our4G LTE network – the nations’ largest 4G network – and it’s clear that this is one of the best phones customers can find.”

There are lots of features that the new Windows Phone is possessing such as 4.3-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display screen, a 1.4GHZ processor, 4G LTE and Windows Phone 7.5 operating System.

If we considered the negative prospects of the Nokia’s new Smartphone that software ecosystem has presently created fierce competition across the world—I think, which might be a greatest hurdle for the mobile industry’s growth. At present, both Microsoft and Nokia are starving in apps number, and definitely, Android and iOS platform have extensively wooed a large population of folks worldwide.

In order to contend, iOS and Android platforms, Microsoft and Nokia have launched a new program –App Campus–to attract the attention of emerging developers.   In association with Aalto University, Finland, the companies have invested $12 million each—that will fund developers at the university who build apps for Windows Phone and other Nokia platforms. Indeed, Microsoft currently seems more aggressive to clinch a vast numbers of folks and its recent “Smoked by Windows Phone” campaign will definitely support the company for acquiring market share.

Are iPhone 4S Users Really Using Siri To Drive Other Services ? [Study]

0

Apple launched iPhone 4S in October last year, which is considered as one of the most innovative products of the company till date. The most extraordinary feature of iphone 4S is Siri (a voice recognition application). The Smartphone helped the company to sell over 37 million units of iPhones just in Q4 (calendar) last year. A research consulting group “Park Associate” has reportedly stated to WSJ that  87% of Apple iPhone 4S consumers use at least one feature of “Siri” every month. The consulting firm surveyed 482 owners of the iPhone 4S–who carried the only device for the services. It’s well known that Siri could perform a number of tasks from searching for information to sending email or even scheduling the meeting by voice whenever requires. The report from the consulting firm has also explained that one-third of iPhone 4S owners use Siri for sending text messaging, to place Phone calls or seeking for information almost daily.

Besides all these, 32% and 35% of iPhone 4S users–who took part in the survey–said that they had never used Siri to perform the actions such as playing Music and scheduling meeting respectively. Among all, 30%  said that they had never used the app to send an email, on the contrary, 26% said, they used the app for sending email ‘daily’ or ‘almost daily’.

The consulting firm also revealed that the users who used “Siri” regularly they were stirred up with strong emotion towards the app. According to report, 55% of iPhone 4s users said that they were satisfied with Siri, while 9% were unsatisfied, and remaining users were in between the two boundaries (satisfied or unsatisfied). Only 37% of iPhone owners among all 482 participants said they would like to have voice-command on their television set, while,  20%  owners were against it. Indeed, it’s astounding me a lot that the majority of users were not interested in Siri to be implemented on their television sets.

Anyway, the intention of the consulting firm is quite obvious that the firm has elaborated the perceptions of users towards the voice activated technology. Definitely, the information will be fruitful for consumers’ electronics companies those are currently planning to integrate the voice activated technology into their devices.

Majority of iPad Users Are Not willing To Upgrade For Apple’s New iPad ( iPad 3)

1

Apple released its revolutionary new iPad on March 7 this year and the company revealed at its “Apple conference Call” this month that it sold over 3 million Tablets just in three days after its release. Indeed, the outstanding features of the Tablet is compelling  folks to own the device. The demand of iPad 3 is especially high among the tech savvy and youths folks. Recently, a research analysis firm “Baird Equity” has surveyed a group of 488 tech-savvy users aged 18-34 years worldwide, among all, 24% of US respondent were more interested to purchase the new iPad in the next three months, while 29% international respondent (included in the survey) responded to buy the new Tablet. The firm has also stated that 48% respondent worldwide said that they already owned the iPad 2, while remaining folks across the world told that the purchase is their first Tablet.

Besides, 15% of US respondents and 22% of International respondent –those who took part in the survey–said that they are planning to purchase an iPad 2 at the new discount price offered by the company. Even, 59 Kindle Fire owners who participated in  the survey also planned to purchase an iPad in the next three months.

Despite of all these,  a majority of users are still not willing to upgrade for Apple’s new iPad. Do You think, why they don’t like to own the new iPad? The reasons are quite obvious why the users are not interested to own the device; first the device is occupied with severe overheating problem, reported by Engadget. The temperature of the new Tablet reached to 33.6 degree centigrade which is higher than the 28.3 degree centigrade of predecessor iPad 2. In addition to this, there are some other issues related to iPad 3 such as Wi-Fi connectivity problem, third-party docking, more spaces consumption due to HD surpportivity, fragile body structure, heavier than the predecessors (iPad or iPad 2), and quick depletion of 4G connectivity.

Undoubtedly, the high-resolution screen display, quad-core processor, and 4G connectivity which are the some features which makes the new iPad more competitive than existing iPads. Despite of all these, the folks more interested to stay with iPad 2 due to numbers of issues rose with new iPad during the last couple of weeks.

Facebook’s Demand Of $710,000 A Day For Log-Out Page Ads Is Impractical?

0

Facebook has demanded whooping $710,000 from those companies who will publish their ads in the log-out page of Facebook, which will be visible to U.S people only. A report generated by Ad Age claims that Facebook will charge $550,000 for home page ads and $160,000 for log-out page ads. However, It is not clear whether $550,000 is monthly fees and $160,000 is daily fees.

Facebook is not going to sell its full-page for ads; only a portion of it is going to be up for advertisers. Undoubtedly, the set-price is very high for an online advertisement compare to other leading ad networks. Also, I think no one bothers about what is coming on the page once a user logs-out of Facebook. There will be very small number of people who will pay attention to the content after their business is over with Facebook. In such scenario, Facebook advertisement price tag will only attract bulls of the business who cares more about the branding rather than business from online advertisements.

Interestingly, this demand is only for U.S. users and if Facebook will have anything to do with other countries with same business model, surely advertisement price will be subsidized but marginal.

Facebook announced this new promotion at the end of February and after almost a month Bing and Subway are only companies who are willing to pay Facebook for log-out pages.

Will Microsoft’s “Smoked By Windows Phone” Campaign Woo Folks? [VIDEO]

1

Microsoft is endeavoring to adopt lots of strategies to lure masses towards its Windows Phone. At the mid of December last year, Microsoft announced a free Windows Phone for “Android malware victim” after sharing “of being victim story” to the company. Presently, Microsoft is holding a “Smoked by Windows phone” contest for non-Windows Phone users.  The company has given challenges to non-Windows Phones users to prove that their Phones are faster compare to Windows Phones devices. Here, contestants have to perform specific task such as ‘updating the status of Facebook or seeking for 5-star restaurants’ on their handset before Windows Phone once after the start of competition. If user performs the task as earlier as Windows Phone then he or she will be rewarded by a special Hunger Games edition of “HP’s Folio ultrabook”, otherwise, they will have to switch from their OS to Windows Phone.

The competition is how much fair it’s seems when a blogger Sahas Katta of “Skattertech” took up the challenge of displaying the weather in two cities. According to Sahas, he was able to contend Windows Phone using  his Samsung Galaxy Nexus. However, Microsoft Store employees in Santa Clara, California, refused to accept his win.

Katta said, “It was a fun contest and I won by their own rules. I didn’t lose anything. I didn’t expect this article to get so much attention. Was doing some errands around the house and my Twitter app kept buzzing. I realized what had happened a bit later. Just imagining Microsoft executives running down the hallways screaming ‘stop the challenge’ is enough justice for me.”

The video (below) is demonstrating how Microsoft is more effective than non-Windows Phone while accessing Facebook at “Smoke By Windows Phone” campaign:

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj-MMBtvW4E

It quite obvious that When Microsoft offer lavish HP laptops as a prize that means that the company is much sure that the OS is quite efficient than its rivals platform. Indeed, “Smoked by Windows Phone” is a Microsoft’s one of the marketing campaign and the company is trying to demonstrate that how Windows Phone is more effective than non-Windows Phone. Whatever be the company’s strategy, the competition should be fair, if Katta’s claim is trust-worthy, then, the company should acknowledge the upshot. However, the campaign could clinch some folks from rivals side to Microsoft’s bag.

Best Buy Sold Almost Same Number Of iPhones, Done By Apple Retail Stores: [Report]

0

It’s well known that Apple sold over 37 million iPhones in Q4 (calendar) last year. But, it’s interesting to know that how much iPhones were sold by Apple’s own retail Stores? A new study from “Consumer Intelligence Research Partners” has  stated that Best Buy alone accounted 13% of total iPhones sales during the three-month period starting from December 2011. The firm surveyed shoppers–sold iPhone from December last year to February this year–including the US three major carriers such as AT&T, Verizon and Sprint.

The firm has revealed that 76% of the total respondent during survey period stated that they purchased their iPhones from a brick-and-mortar retail store in US.  It’s not astounding me lot that the largest national electronics retail store chain of the US–Best Buy–sold as many numbers of iPhones as Apple own retail stores sold during the same period.

Undoubtedly, the contribution of AT&T, Verizon and Sprint can not be ignored at any moment, these operators played vital role in the total shipments of iPhone during the survey period. According to the report, AT&T alone accounted 32% of the total selling of iPhones during the three-month period ending to February 2012, while Verizon and Sprint contributes 30 and 7% respectively during the same period.

If we compare the bulkiness of Apple retails store with other players (sold iPhone during three-month period), then obviously, Apple is dominating over them. Apple Retail Store are indeed four times as many as Best Buy Stores in the US. Besides Best Buy, Apple Retail Stores are 20 times as many as AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. Despite of all these, AT&T and Verizon accounted more number of iPhone’s sales than Apple own retail stores, even Best Buy also accounted almost the same numbers of sales as the company itself made during the same period ending to February this year. Really, these players have aggressively compelled the company to re-frame its US based retail stores strategy.

However, Best Buy–one of the leading US based electronics retailer– has been struggled in recent years to make its bullish presence in the US market. Anyway, Apple and Best Buy are presently enjoying the fruits of their retail relationship across the country.

Why Are Well-Funded Apps With Successful Founders Failed?

0

Market is flourished with enormous numbers of apps and thousands of new apps are debuting every day. They are lots of challenges for apps development firms in order to develop the apps, the foremost challenge for them is fragmentations of OS—there are lots of versions of different OS are available in the market. This month, two high-profile apps such as Hipster and Oink have been disappeared from the market. In addition to this, two more apps including GroupMe (develop for group chat) and Foursquare (check -in model to reviews) have also failed to get popularity in the market. Hipster was acquired by AOL, while Google bought Oink. Likewise, GroupMe and Foursquare were acquired by Skype and Yelp respectively.

There might be a big question, why these well-funded apps with successful founders are failed to make its appearance in the market? It’s a very difficult to predict the success of any product before come to consumers’ hand. It’s very hard to understand what consumers really  expect—it might be websites, movies, books, music, toys and some other. Consumers are of fickle minded, they care to fulfill their need by any cost because they have larger options of apps to select–they prefer to choose those apps which suit them best at the particular moment.

In present scenario, it is very tough for new comers to lure a vast number of folks, which are being taken-off by the pedigreed players or existing players. It not possible to attract folks by just publicity through Twitter or and writing up into a tech blogs. The two major challenges are; first, getting people to install the apps on their devices and second, promoting through the websites or other media for the advertisement.

Apps are said to be successful only when relevant customers return to access regularly. For this, app development firm need to have fresher content, useful features, and reminders for users in the notification and emails. If users once installed the apps on their iOS and Android devices, there is also a limitation that the apps to be accessed by users.  The iPhone and Android home screen can display only 16 icons which include only the core features such as the phone, messaging, and map icon and that’s why, these apps remain untouched with users.

Indeed, the situation is worsening day-by-day for apps development firm. They are basically facing an intense challenges from pedigreed apps developers such as Apple and Android. Apple is currently offering over 550,000 apps through its Apps Store, and likewise, some other players RIM, Microsoft and Nokia are still adopting variegated stunts to lure folks. Besides, apps developers have to launch several updates for their regulars users for different OS updates. In addition to these, the developers have to develop apps by keeping some parameters in their mind such as screen of the devices and even colors of the devices.
