0

As the year is approaching to an end, list, yearly performance, buzz of the year and lot more interesting facts are on its way. The latest is the most buzzed social network where Twitter continues its dream run by dominating its arch rivals in micro-blogging space. Recent ranking by digital marketing agency Zeta Interactive measures Twitter as the most-buzzed social networking site of 2011. Leading ahead of professional networking site LinkedIn and last year topper YouTube. The scores by Zeta Buzz are calculated mathematically by the volume multiplied by the positive ranking divided by 10.

However, this year has resulted as the best year for Twitter till its inception. In this year Twitter revenue surged by 210 percent and has been honored as “Digital Service of The Year” at T3 awards. It is being also expected that Twitter will touch $400 million revenue by 2014.

“2011 is the year of Twitter. For culture, breaking news and celebrities it is the social network. I think that’s reflected in the much more positive tonal ranking,” as said by Minna Rhee, CEO Zeta Interactive.

Interestingly, social media titan Facebook is unable to make in top 3 list due to rise of complains and the negative buzz. Zeta has considered only 70 percent of the Facebook discussion as a positive buzz while 30 percent accounts for negative buzz. Facebook is on the fourth spot in the list published.

While professional networking site LinkedIn has proved itself again by finishing on second spot. This is mainly due to job creation hype, for which LinkedIn is famous. Job creation is a market where people are more conscious and want to be in touch with professionals of diverse companies for job opportunities.

The most surprising entry in the list is of two new comers Meetup (sixth place) and Ning (ninth). These two social networks have been rated among the highest tonal rankings with 93 percent of buzz, which means these two social networks are backed by personal and local supporters.

The two social networks YouTube and Flickr have declined the most in ranking compare to last year, where these two were holding first and second position respectively.

However, Google+ has not been considered for top 10 list because it was launched in mid of 2011 and the ranking is based on the whole year data. Anyhow, it manages to get 12th position in the list, but with recent launches it will definitely make entry in top 10 list of 2012.

Last but not the least Twitter has again surpassed all the social network giants which is a positive indication of future growth.

Over 3,200 Android Users Responded To Microsoft’s Free Windows Phone Offer

4

On Monday, Microsoft Windows Phone evangelist team member–Ben Rudolph—announced that the company is offering a free windows phones to “Android malware Victim” after sharing their Android malware story. Really, it comes true that “One’s loss always profits to other” and Android victims give profit to Microsoft. Within four day of Rudolph announcement, over 3,200 individuals revealed their Android malware stories to Microsoft and making Google more restless with every passing day.

Microsoft’s senior director of Windows Phones Communication—Bill Cox –revealed the statistics of Victims those have shared their Android malware stories to Microsoft Windows Phone. Presently, the company is facing the challenge to count the statistics of Genuine Android malware victims.

In this moment, Microsoft campaign is buzzing around, why not, because woes of malware has targeted to Android apps.  Its irony of Android that Microsoft has focused on the security issue of its apps that is coming through its own users. But it’s apparent, how many unfortunate Android user would be having an opportunity to own Windows phones.

I think a big player of this business, like Microsoft, knows better that how and when to take the advantage of competitors’ misfortune. So far in this year, Google has pushed out more than 100 malicious apps into thrash which includes “RuFraud”.

Microsoft is attempting to lure Android malware victim to adopt Nokia’s Windows devices, which might ramp up in the US market at the end of this month. It’s pretty clear that the Android apps are easily targeted by malware attack due to its openness of Android source code.

You might remember the statement of Microsoft chief executive—Steve Ballmer—delivered in October 2011, “You don’t need to be a computer scientist to use a Windows phone. And I think you do to use an Android phone.” Probably, it was not but Google has proved it so – keeping its rivals’ dignity intact.

Microsoft is just let to make its capital by taking the advantage of Android’s soft spot and converting their consumers into Windows phone users. The company also instigating the Android malware apps victims against Android and insisting them to use Windows Phone which is more secure than Android phones. It’s great opportunity for the company to filth Android malware apps victim to improve its mobile market share which is only 1.5 % in present.

Facebook To Roll Out ‘Pay-Per-Engagement’ Ad Model: An End Of CPC ?

1

From last couple of months Facebook is on launch spree of various features to attract more advertisers. Maintaining the trend, today, it has  reported that company is running several tests on its Ad platform. The new test is in association with German Facebook Tab developer “247 Grad”. Under the new test, Facebook will charge advertisers on the basis of pay-per-engagement. Which means now advertisers can pay according to engagement rate with their Ads.

Facebook clarifies that per engagement includes ‘Liking a page’ or ‘Installation of any App’ where users take some concrete action towards the ad. This can also be considered an extension of CPC (Cost per Click) model.

“We will try to get as many people to like your page or install your app given your budget, by delivering the ad to those people most likely to take action. You will be charged each time your ad is viewed. Please choose this option only for ads for pages and apps on Facebook,” as said by 247 Grad.

Interestingly, in last one week it’s the second test which Facebook is conducting for advertisers. Company is also testing a feature to offer discount coupons to users via advertisements.

However, Facebook has said that the test was conducted exclusively to allow marketers to designate that they are interested in organizing campaigns and advertisement on Facebook pages. This unswervingly indicates that Facebook is testing such skin textures to ensnare more advertisers. In current ad revenue model, Facebook is collecting payment on the basis of per-impression basis not on action basis.

Facebook is having a deep look at marketers’ as well as advertisers’ response as company want to pre-ensure the success of such feature – especially when company’s IPO is around the corner. If advertisers are satisfied then it will bring this particular test into action. The success of such test will also ensure revenue boost for the company which would indirect help upcoming IPO.

Personally, I think if such tests come into action then it might be possible that users will have to pay heavy plum in Facebook accounts. But, from other point of view, it’s really a good initiative since many advertisements are not being viewed by users but advertisers need to cough-up the cost. Also, addition of new features in advertisement field will definitely benefit advertisers since they will get a better return on their investments and will be charges only when any user will take some concrete action on his ad.

Facebook To Venture Into Mobile Ads Business By March 2012

3

Despite of global meltdown mobile ads market is growing at a regular pace. In last few years many companies have foray into mobile ads market. witnessing the revolution and enormous potential in mobile market, social media titan Facebook is also planning to roll out new service in mobile advertisement field. It’s being expected that Facebook will roll out its first mobile ad service by the end of March 2012. This new service will give social media titan a fresh source of revenue. Also, the target date for the launch of such service has been set intelligently as much hype and awaited IPO of Facebook is also expected in mid of 2012.

It’s not an easy way ahead for Facebook in mobile ads market, since lot of competitors like Google, Apple and Millennial Media are very much active and performing well in this field for more than half a decade. However, having such a large user base will definitely help social media titan.

Facebook definitely have made some potential planning before entering in mobile ads market. Company has too much information about a person’s interests and associates that it can help advertisers in targeting the desired customers more than mobile web browsers or application.

From past one year Facebook is concentrating more on mobile industry; first it had launched mobile location-based service for offering discounts to users and later it has rolled out Facebook App for mobile directly points out Facebook hunger for expanding its business in mobile market.

Personally, I think such roll out will definitely help Facebook in surging its revenue which is expected to touch $4.27 billion by 2011 and $6.9 billion by 2012. In last few month company has taken few steps to improve its brand image in front of public. Recently, It had launched a tool in collaboration with Lifeline to reduce suicide rate which will help in gaining public attention.

Interestingly, in last few months Facebook has launched several features, like mobile app for Facebook, discount coupons, suicidal prevention tool etc, which will help in strengthening its revenue model.

Facebook is planning to raise $10 billion through IPO which would value it at more than $100 billion and taking such initiative before launch of IPO directly indicates towards Facebook efforts to create a firm financial ground by then.

Last but not the least, I think, these roll out will definitely help Facebook in strengthening it business in future.

Apple To Face Unexpected Growth of iPhone and iPad in US Next Year [STATS]

0

The intention of Americans portray that the demand of Apple’s iPhone and iPad is going to grow up in 2012. In recent couples of weeks, the popularity of iPad and iPhone seems everywhere in US and definitely it would push all the assumptions next year.

An Alphawise survey reveals that the demand of iPhone and iPad would increase more than 40% next year. The Apple’s penetration in smartphone as well as in Tablet segment has grown significantly in last couples of months. The Survey also claims that the 30% of users want to own Apple’s iPhone next year which is almost double than previous year of just 16%.

An analyst at Morgan Stanley—Katy Huberty—stated, “Survey results and recent comments by AT&T indicate Apple iPhone shipments could reach 31-36 million in the calendar Q4 2011 compare to our model of 30 million.”

It’s pretty clear from the above data that the expected shipment estimation by Morgan Stanley and the Alphawise Survey varies unexpectedly. The estimation of Morgan Stanley in Q1 for iPhone is just 28 million while the recent survey by AlphaWise reveals 41 million, which is approximately 1.4 times more than Morgan Stanly.

Morgan Stanley previously estimated that the shipment of iPhone would be decreased by 7% in Q1 of 2012, while AlphaWise states that it would sequentially uptick next year. In the present scenario, it’s very difficult for anyone to predict the future shipment of smartphone.

The firm model states that the shipment of iPad in 2012 would have 52 million, while iPhone would have 134 million units. On contrary, the recent survey states that the shipment for iPad would have 81 million units whereas iPhone would have 190 million units in 2012. On comparing both of data, there is variation in shipment for iPhone as well as iPad which is 42% and 56% respectively.

Thanks to Apple, its iPad at just $399 significantly create a curiosity among users particularly among new adopters. Using advantages of cheaper iPad, Apple has opportunity to gain 22 million additional buyers.

It’s expected that Apple would introduce its high resolution iPad 3 “Retina Display” next year, and user would have opportunity to buy iPad 2 at the discount rate. Similarly, the company would offer iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 models at the discount rate.

Apple has recently attracted number of Kindle’s fire’s customer; this customer delayed their purchase scheduled for Apple’s iPad. However, Apple’s iPhone and iPad might face the challenge from Android’s low price tablets and smartphones. Particularly in US, after RIM’s three days outage, the users most relying on Apple and that’s the reason why the demand of Apple’s iPad and iPhone has increased in the country.

Google+ Enhances Hangout Experience By Introducing New Features

0

Taking a step further Google+ has added a new feature in “Hangout” to make it more useful for users. Today, in its official Blog Google has announced that it is rolling out number of changes in Google+ Hangout. Now, users can go beyond status updates and connect with people to whom users want by using multi-person video chat option.

There are certain status updates which excite users like “brother gets engaged”, “friends get job” etc and as a consequent of excitement they probably want to make face–to–face contact, but due to technical unavailability they were unable to so do. Now, with the improved features of Google+ Hangout, users can made video conversation with each other in a simpler manner. Interestingly, this new feature will help users in hanging out with others who have updated their post on Google+.

Users just need to click over Hangout option mentioned underneath in a post which passionate them. Google+ will automatically add your invitation to the comment. Also, users can see the invitation of hangout mentioned in the comment section of the post.

The new features of Google+ hangout are also going to come on mobile devices via Google+ Messenger. This means that now users can do multi – person video chat from their mobile phones also, which is really an awesome feature.

One of the most important features – which I liked the most – is the ‘dial-in-friends’ option. This feature will help those users who don’t have webcam or front-facing camera. With the help of hangout users can call their beloved one throughout the world. Currently Google+ is offering free call to the U.S. and Canada while for rest of the countries call charges are minimal.

Google+ has added one more features which is really useful for users; It will inform users when there loved one invite them for hangout. Also, it has added option in the right hand side of the stream where users can see up to three live hangouts. Now, users will not miss a single chance to connect with their friends, family and loved ones.

For having fun while hanging out on Google+, company has helped Google+ community to add millions of virtual moustaches to their faces in November. Now, in December it’s planning to add a pair of antlers which will make their face funny and attractive.

Personally, I think Google+ has taken a significant step which will definitely help him in trapping users. Also, the absence of such features in its arch rival Facebook will surely provide a wining edge to Google+ and will surge the market of Google+.

Hope these new features will benefit Google+ in improving the ratio of user engagement which is currently not very attractive. Have you tried out these new feature ? What do you think about these new features Google+ has launched?

It’s good news for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich fans that the latest Galaxy is available at Verizon’s retail stores and website for online selling.

It’s really important to review the smartphone’s specifications in brief; the Samsung Galaxy Nexus comprises 4.65-inch HD super AMOLED display with 1280 x 720 resolutions, a 5 MP rear camera, a 1.3 MP front camera, and very impressive 9.47mm thin body with complete touch screen.  The foremost important is that it runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and having 1.2 GHZ dual-core processor.

The smartphone has many features including better multitasking capabilities, an Android Beam App—to exchange the information between two phones—and outstanding Facial recognition software—lets the user to unlock their phones.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus was expected to launch on Dec 9, 2011, instead, the smartphone page was disappeared from Verizon’s website page. However, the company had no any firm answer about Galaxy Nexus delay. Some rumors say that this is due to sticky negotiation over Google’s Wallet app. Later, Verizon asked to Google to omit sticky wallet app from the Nexus which has resulted in launch.

Some of Android fans had really fortunate because they had succeeded to buy the smartphone last week from Verizon retail store and Best Buy who sold them accidentally. However, wallet has still not been included in the Galaxy Nexus till today’s launch. Let’s watch the video below how is the smartphone impressive:

PayPal To Debut In Daily Deals Business With Tailored Strategy

1

Despite of tough competition in online deal market PayPal is planning to jump into the online coupon business with a twist to tap users based upon their buying habits and mobile locations. Company is ready to compete with online deal market leaders like GroupOn and LivingSocial. The EBay owned company, which has more than 103 million members, will make it first incursion into mobile location-based deals in first quarter of 2012. For this, company has partnered with more than 200 merchants in U.S.

PayPal is mainly chasing the online deal market to double its revenue as high as $7 billion by 2013. Last year company revenue was $3.4 billion and with the debut into online deals business, PayPal can easily seek towards its goal in the mentioned time.

PayPal which has more than 103 million members will be benefited if it launches coupons based upon mobile phone location. Last week, PayPal indicated that in coming weeks company will launch some new features which will definitely boom the market.

“The experience is going to be completely different from anyone else’s through and through”. “We’ll only give you something that we think fits the category of unique and relevant. Everyone else is going to bombard you,” as said by Scott Thompson, President PayPal.

PayPal’s new services will benefit both the users as well as retailers since the payment need to be made online through credit card in this business model. Company already has Target Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co. and Best Buy Co. as customers along with 103 million of members (near about) who have accounts to pay and use the system.

However, it might be a tough task for PayPal to give direct competition to GroupOn and LivingSocial since both of them control combined market share of 73 percent till October. Also, both these are in this field from half a decade and they provide daily offer which is more significance to customers’ needs.

According to U.S. department of commerce, the coupons are supposed to keep the customers of EBay beyond the payment process and will also help EBay to extend its user base. The overall percentage occupied by E-commerce in market place is only 4.6 percent in third quarter of 2011.

Interestingly, it has been found that internet retailers, like Amazon Inc. and BestBuy, are also  focusing on small retailers to increase their market share as well as revenue.

However, the time of such debut by PayPal is an interesting aspect. Many daily deal sites have either been transformed into E-commerce site or have shut down their shop. Recent downfall of a daily deal site Taggle is a great example of saturation in this business. Though, it doesn’t mean that people are keeping themselves away from daily deal business but economy slow down and ‘monkey-share’ in daily deal business have definitely put the business on slow movement.

Since PayPal has got certain pre-owned advantages – like online payment processing engine, brand and huge customer data base aggressive with online transaction – it would be interesting to see how the company will leverage on this and stay profitable from new business initiative.

Only 10 Percent Global Population Owns Smartphone: India And China Are Worse [STUDY]

2

The smartphone battle has been triggered with full form and big players like Apple, Samsung, Nokia, and HTC have extended their mobile market share throughout the world. But, the vast majority of mobile users still relying on traditional phones compare to smartphone. That’s the reason why smartphone segment has only 10% penetration in total mobile segment.

“Communities Dominate Brand” has gathered smartphone usage information from 42 different countries. The data set has provided by the consultant is fascinating, which reveals that the smartphone penetration is still not up-to-the mark.

From the data sheet provided by source, only 10% of global population owes a smartphone. In which Singapore holds the top position with a population of 90% smartphone owners. Whereas, Hong Kong and Sweden has marked 61% and 52% of population own smartphones respectively.

Dediu at asymco.com reports, “ITU data shows that at the end of 2010 there were 5.4 billion global subs. This survey was conducted more recently so the total is likely much higher (perhaps around 6 billion). The survey thus covers about 72% of the world. That implies that at least 90% of the market remains unserved.”

The fact that astonishes most is smartphone penetration in US and South Korea; Being as one of the technically advanced countries these were expected to have more smartphone penetration but figures depict reverse – The penetration is only 35 and 34 percent respectively. The country like Japan known for its technology affinity population has only 14% of citizen equipped with smartphones.

It’s amazing that the most post populous country like China and India – known as the biggest market for mobile with highest number of subscribers – have more traditional mobile users than smartphones. In these two countries, the smartphones users are still in worse number; china has starved at 6% whereas India is even worse having only 3% of participation in smartphone segment against their population.

Smartphone has revolutionized the world and there are numbers of competitors and lineup of smartphone in the market. There are lots of thing which is still lacking inside this segment and marketers have to identify the people interests. Generally, smartphones’ costs are number of times higher than the traditional phones and people from countries with poor economy won’t be aggressive towards smartphone.  Few countries are still starving for 3G network, which distracts smartphone penetration. Yet, it would take some time but definitely smartphone will dominate over the traditional mobile sector.

Google Voice Recognition App “Majel”: A Secret Project To Answer Apple’s “Siri”

4

Apple has witnessed a big success from its latest innovation “Siri”, which is being considered as best voice recognition app ever. This has geared up many other companies to work towards voice based apps that can work either similar or better than Apple’s “Siri”. Google is not a small fish in the sea of innovation, that’s why the company is a just a step behind to introduce its effective voice recognition app – an answer of “Siri”.

Company is reportedly working on an voice recognition app for Android platform, currently code named as “Majel” , expected to launch by year end. Google’s voice recognition app is under development in the company’s one of the top secret research lab—Google X.  There is no any official confirmation so far about ‘Majel’, However, it is being expected that the company is developing the apps for Android platform in order to compete Apple’s “Siri”.

The codename “Majel” has come from Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, popularly known as the voice of the Federation Computer from Star Trek. Majel is an evolution of Google’s Voice Action which would implausibly perform on user’s natural language similar to Siri. An old video would demonstrate how the app would perform on natural language:

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGbYVvU0Z5s

The source also said that the company’s engineers are working around the clock in its top secret lab to complete the assignment. At the moment, the company has completed half of its project and so, a January or February might be the best time to launch the app. The more advanced upgrades of “Majel”, like controlling phone actions and application with natural language command, would available soon after its release.

Google’s director of Android Operating System—Matias Duarte—said in an interview, “Our approach is more like Star Trek, right, starship Enterprise; every piece of computing surface, everything is voice-aware. It’s not that there’s a personality, it doesn’t have a name, it’s just Computer.”

The evidence itself depicts that Google is moving to introduce its voice recognition app “Majel” soon. However, still its not clear whether Google will draw the line at Google Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.) required to run “Majel” or will take open minded approach, unlike Apple, by allowing Gingerbread users to enjoy the app.

As the expectation of Android community riding high on Google and its innovation, so, Majel will definitely impress users. However, how much effective the app is, would be determined after its introduction. Dou you think, would the app really perform better than Siri on natural language?

Microsoft Is Offering Free Windows Phone To Android Apps Malware Victims

0

It’s not the first time that the Google has found malicious Android apps in its Android market. After recent discovery of 22 malicious Android apps, it’s more than 100 malicious apps Google has found through its campaign against such malware this year. But Microsoft has – cunningly, sort of – picked up the situation for gains by offering free Windows Phones to all such penalized Android users. It has reminded me a old lesson from my school days – “One’s loss is always benefits others.”

On Monday, Windows Phone evangelist—Ben Rudolph—declared in his twitter message that Microsoft would offer a free Windows Phone to Android malware victims after sharing their Android malware story. Knowingly, Ben Rudolph has thrown the offer after the learning about 22 malicious Android apps in the Android market. It’s quite noteworthy that some of Android malicious apps contain “RuFraud” – a fake app that send messages to premium numbers posing as legitimate app like “Angry Bird” or “Need For Speed”.

Lookout—a San Francisco based security firm—has stated that the recent operation of Rufraud began with Horoscope apps. Thereafter it has targeted to Android Phone Wallpaper—including a Twilight series of Movies—and finally , moved to bestselling games such as “Angry birds” and “Cut the Rope”. Really, “RuFraud” malware has worsened the Android apps in Android market.

Interestingly, Lookout and Google has pointed out that the fraudulent apps demand some payment mentioned in ‘Terms & Conditions’ and  it promises to provide the service only after users’ grant. In response to SMS message, the Google spokesman said, “It’s not possible for a user to install the app without approving this permission to allow the app to send premium SMS messages.”

Surprisingly, these malware apps are packed in such way that it looks like genuine apps. It’s astounding that some malicious apps are downloaded over 10,000 times before they were trashed by Google.

However, Microsoft’s offer to Android apps victim isn’t the first time event as the company has performed similar activities many times to others. Recently, Microsoft’s senior director of Windows Phone Development—Brandon Watson- bated $1,000 on Windows Phone 7 with the author of comic strip Dilbert—Scott Adams. Watson offered Scott Adams to try a Windows Phone 7 device; if device would fail to impress Scott then he would pay $1000 to a charity of Adams’ choice.

This is not the end, Watson had also offered Window Phone device to iPhone Hacker “Geohot”. And foremost important, Microsoft had offered an opportunity to own Windows Phones device to webOS developers to develop apps. It’s funny, within 24 hours over 500 webOS developers were responded to Microsoft’s Windows phone offer. In October this year, after RIM’s three days outage, Rudolph has supplied 25 windows phone devices to frustrated Blackberry users.

Recently, Microsoft has attempted to please victims of different platforms device users in order to demonstrate the advantages of Windows phones over their devices. But, the company is still unable to read the mind of users which is making company to starve in mobile market. The company would have to come with strong strategy and innovative approach to clinch the mobile market share.

Will Apple’s Flexible Price Strategy Over Mobile Ads Agitate Google ?

0

Apple launched its iAd services in July last year under the leadership of former CEO—Steve Jobs— who led the Apple’s mobile ad service to top position. Last year, the company had 19% of market share in mobile ad business which has dropped, unfortunately, to 15% in this year. As company has found itself in a tough-nut situation against Google’s AdMob in mobile ad business, Apple seems to adopt a rather soften approach towards iAd market.

So, what made Apple to loose grounds in mobile ad market when its flagship products, iPhone, is doing great in smartphone segment ? Marketers found themselves in little tense situation due to high-price tag strategy and stringent control over whole process of iAd marketing, Apple maintained. Unlike Apple, Google’s AdMob service is more reasonably priced and also widely available for array of devices.

Apple iAd market loss and marketer’s distraction have compelled the company to change its strategy. In an effort to counter Google in mobile Ad space, the company is showing more willingness to bargain on the spending commitment. Previously, marketers were committed to spend $1 million, later dropped to $500,000, which has been revised again to minimum of $400,000.

Due to cut-throat competition and market demand company has showed more flexibility in its price structure. The company is also offering advertisers to pay only $10 for every thousand impressions of Ads over mobile. The strategy might give firm competition to Google’s AdMob services which charges $4 to $12 per thousand views from advertisers.

The reformed strategy over iAd has pleased marketers and its resulting in the renewal of their deals with the company for future ad on the mobile.

Apple has huge expectation from its iAd market and with the introduction of reformed strategy company is expecting regain grounds that it has mislaid to Google. From the first position last year, Apple’s iAd market slipped to thirds position this year and reported to reserve only $95 million out of $630 million mobile ad market.

It’s obvious that the mobile Ad market is enormous and has vast opportunities for the companies like Apple and Google. Apple’s new flexible price strategy is incredible and might be helpful to regain its iAd market.
