Twitter Introduces 3 Hot Shot Features: Top News, Top People, Quick View

0

It’s really surprising to see Twitter that has managed to launch three new features in a short span of time. With overall head count of 600 employees and established in 2006, Twitter has covered a long way in no time. Currently, Twitter has more than 200 million user base, generating over 250 million tweets and 1.6 billion queries daily. Today, Twitter has introduced three new features known as Top News, Top People and Quick view. With the help of these one can get all the top news from across the world as well as can get in touch with top people whenever one prefer to do twitter search.

However, few days back Twitter CEO, Dick Costello, said that company will focus on surfacing the best contents from these million tweets. As per my view the launch of three new features is the nice step taken by micro-blogging sites and now it will be able to concentrate more on comments.

Below is the quick review about three features:

1.      Top News: It is one of the best features which I liked the most. Users can get all the news and relevant information all across the world, whenever and wherever they want.

Below pic will provide clear idea:

2.      Top People: The second most important change, which I noticed, is introduction of Top People. Now users can search most influential people in more convenient way and may follow them, without browsing all the way to their profile.

Here is the pic which provides clear idea:

3.      Quick View: Though most of us have noticed two change easily, but one more additional change has been made by Twitter known as Quick View. This feature is the most appropriate added in Twitter. It will help users to get quick view over the profile of other Twitter users and can follow the conversation by just by clicking on mentioned Twitter username. Another important thing is the introduction of pop up containing latest tweets from any twitter users, instead of getting back to the normal profile. It’s one of the most Fancy and stylish feature:

I am really excited about these features and all these new changes make Twitter experience more useful than ever before. Have you got a chance to play with these new features? If not then just have a re-look at your twitter account and lets us know your valuable feedback on this.

Google To Offer Free Websites For Small And Medium Businesses In India

0

Indeed it’s a great news for all small as well as medium size enterprises in India that Google India has decided to offer free website for more than 5,00,000 small and medium Businesses in the country. Indian economy has managed to impress global economist as the overseas market condition is just plunging and there is no immediate promising future with them.

Google India has declared in its official blog that it has launched an ‘India Get Your Business Online’ program to website, internet domain and web hosting service to small and medium businesses (SMBs) in the country.

Google India MD and vice president (Sales and operations)-Rajan Anandan-said; “Our goal is to help 5, 00,000 small medium businesses in India to get online in next three years through this programme.”

Basically, the intention of this program is to break down the barriers which are getting faced by small and medium businesses to enter into promising e-commerce industry. Google would provide sufficient and authentic information to overcome such barrier.

Google India has estimated 8 lakh small and medium enterprises in the country but with only 5% of them actually leveraging over billion dollar online e-com industry or having any website. However, the trend is under transformation as Entrepreneurship in India has started flourishing for last one year.

‘India Get Your business Online’ initiative will provide an innovative background to these entrepreneurs to expose themselves globally and promote their product. Using the website, they would be able to understand their current status in the global market.

For creation of its domain name, entrepreneurs will not have to go through the cumbersome formalities and procedures. They just need to submit their permanent account Number (PAN) and other tax related details for verification. Thereafter, they would be provided with an online tool for free website and web hosting services for a year. Under this programme, all interested SMBs would get free email addresses and other advertising related benefits for one year.

After a year, if website domain holders want to continue their services, they will have to pay a charge for renewal of their domain name. For execution of this programme, Google India has made partnership with US-based Web host HostGator for the initiative. The web firm would provide free support in creating, hosting and managing the website for the period of one year. Actually, this programmme is supported by federation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) popularly known as FISME.

It’s a very innovative step by Google India for the development of Small and Medium Businesses. Since, Indian economy is highly influenced with SME’s, and we wouldn’t even think, country wouldn’t progress by ignoring this sector which comprises of 8,00,000 SME’s. The steps taken by Google India for the promotion of Indian Small and medium businesses are highly appreciated.

Is Microsoft Deal The Last Hope For Mozilla Firefox ?

1

Mozilla is going through rough track in web browser industry. Its – once much hyped – web browser Firefox is facing tough competition from various other prominent browsers like Google Chrome, Microsoft IE and Apple Safari. Market share of Firefox has dipped in last one year which caused the tie up with Microsoft to release a customized version with default browser Microsoft’s Bing. Though, Mozilla has faced criticism for such tie up, it managed to release the Firefox 7.1 based on Bing . This deal might be the last hope for Mozilla to save its browser since its three-year contract with Google is going to expire by next month and less hopes are there for renewal of the contract. At present scenario, none of the two biggies are commenting on the financial terms, but one can be sure that Microsoft is paying Mozilla peanuts.

The non-profit Mozilla Corporation was founded on November 9th, 2004, and most of its revenue comes from contracts with search providers. Currently, most of the revenue for Firefox comes from Google and, as the information reveal by Computerworld, near about 88 percent of revenue for Mozilla had come from Google in 2008.

However, Google’s interest towards Firefox has been subsidized than ever before now because of its own Chrome browser which is accumulating market share significantly and soon it shall surpass Mozilla and become the number one browser. In last one year Mozilla Firefox market share has decreased by 1.21 percent compared to Chrome which has surged 8 percent in last one year. In September 2010, Firefox market share was 23.69 percent which, at present, has dipped to 22.48 percent compared to Chrome which had market share of 8.24 percent last year and gained 8 percent to reach 16.2 percent by September this year, according to Net Applications.

The condition of Firefox has become worse in mobile segment too. Mostly all the mobile OS development companies have got it own mobile browser which comes pre-installed with respective devices. Therefore, none of the mobile users prefer Firefox due to mobile Chrome sitting with Android, safari with iPhones and IE with Windows Phones, lagged Firefox behind.

So the future of Mozilla Firefox is still doubtful ? But Microsoft deal might help Mozilla Firefox till an extent to come back on track and compete with other web browsers. Do you think still there is time for Mozilla to rescue itself ? Do let us know your comments and suggestions below – Might be Mozilla picks up the best !

How Is Microsoft Trying To Flip Over Android And Apple in Smartphone Market

2

Microsoft claims that its new Windows Phone 7.5 has hundreds of new features including marvelous speech recognition enhancement. Whether you call or send text to someone, it will happen once you utter and Window Phone 7.5 will follow the instruction whatever you said.

In simple words, Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 will have all features, possessed by Android-based smartphones and iPhones. However, new version-Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 has number of additional features that were unavailable in its previous version, and also, it has approached the market with very attractive black in color and in rectangular shape.

Already, Samsung and HTC have started working with Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 as an auxiliary platform, whereas, other manufacturers are expected to follow. It’s really a descent, elegant, fast synchronized and extraordinarily designed mobile OS which has claimed to have everything a user expects now days.

Fairly Known, Microsoft is giant player in software innovation; previously, it came up with fresh metaphor and dominated over market for decade. Here, you can’t say Microsoft as imitator, which extracted the features from iPhone and Android.

The latest version of Microsoft’s window Phone, includes large range of apps, speed dial entry, web page, a broad library of music playlist. Especially, message alert functionality won’t allow you to escape from any alert like voice-mail messages, e-mail messages or apps updates, which are waiting. It contains several tiles in the page like Music tile shows album art, the calendar tiles identifies yours next appointment, and keep you always with the contact of Twitter and Facebook updates.

The latest version can perform multitasking, tethering, unified e-mail in box for multiple accounts, message threading and also twitter integration unlike its previous version. Mango (widely called Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5) provides everything that you want in your Smartphone.

Comparatively, Android has proven itself in Smartphone – dominating over 50% of Global smartphone market – while Apple iPhone 4S seems triumphant worldwide. Android and iPhone have created sound impact in users’ mind resulting in increased demand continuously. Instead, Microsoft has full assurance on success of its new version Window Phone 7.5 because it’s no way inferior compare to competitors with aspect to design as well as features.

Presently, Apple’s software fault – responsible for battery drainage within 12 Hrs and plunged  Market share in US – has created huge opportunity for Microsoft to extend its market. If we consider about patent issues,  Microsoft seems quite stronger with Quanta, Compal and purchase of 882 patent of Novell, which is being considered as a threat to Android manufactures. The patent issues give advantage to Microsoft, and many companies like Samsung,HTC, who works on Android Platform, have already been sold on this.

However, Google has already stretched its sleeves against Microsoft over patent issue and pointed Microsoft’s approach to Android mobile handset manufacturers as threat to industry as well as users.

Microsoft’s multi-dimensional approach, to smartphone market, is ensuring the best possible favorable outcome. Though, it has been little late for the company to place its bet in smartphone OS market, but with such strategy, the ultimate goal of highest revenue acquisition should match – possibly beat – with closest competitor.

Apple iPhone 4S Battery Drains Off In Just 12 hours: Users Cry Foul !

1

Is Apple’s battery really dies in 12 hrs’? No one even can dream that Apple’s iPhone 4s will be possessed by such mix-up, but it’s true. User of brand-new Apple iPhone 4s have found that handset have alarmingly shorted by very short standby times.  Some reports say Apple’s new IPhone 4s lasts less than 12 hrs. Incidentally, on release of iPhone 4s, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook claimed that Apple’s iPhone 4s will have better battery life with 8 hr of 3G talk time, 10 hrs’ of video playback, 40 hrs’ of music and 200 hrs’ of standby time.

Many report fickle points in battery use. It’s become hot while use outside even in the shade. However, such complaint also arrived at apple’s official ‘help’ forums, which has been reported by some customers. But, Apple officials are unable to reply the way to fix up the problem. It‘s assumed that other IPhone 4s might also have any such challenge. However, Macworld have offered guidelines, how to fix the handset but the source is not official from Apple.

Presently, the problem seems minor but need of an extensive step to be taken before it would become major issues. I think Apple can’t sit so ideal, they might look for solution to fix the issues related to the iPhone 4s battery.

Last week, Samsung glisten over Apple to become number one Smartphone manufacturer. Its Android based mobile handsets seem triumphant in the market and have broken all records. Presently, Nokia stands third position in Smartphone industry after Samsung and Apple. If in this instance Apple’s battery problems arise, it would be difficult for it to stay afloat as market leader in Smartphone.

Although, Mac forums and other sites come with lots of solution but no one is able to give complete solution to fix the battery problem.

It’s anticipated that battery issue might be caused by setting menu or software fault but other’s conception is little different regarding this issue as they think problem might occur due to physical condition of the battery. iPhone 4s using iOS5 version of Apple’s operating system on which Apple’s hope hinge.

If Apple fix this problem as soon as possible, will be benefited to him, otherwise it might danger to its reputation as well as its market share.  Apple knows that Nokia and other Android device manufacturer can’t sit sluggishly, they all might attempt to obtain the number position in the Smartphone market. Apple’s market share has fallen after Steve Jobs and it’s very tough time for Tim Cook to keep the expectations on high notes. Would battery life issue really damage the market value of iPhone 4s? Do you think it might give benefit to their competitor like Samsung and Nokia?

Facebook Latest News Feed Section Dispiriting Small and New Brand Pages

3

Social media space has proved to be the most efficient platform for promotion of brands, products and services. Especially, Facebook has provided the most effective platform for brands  to improve the brands reputation and engagement. To make it more effective, company has included several engagement and broadcasting tools that help brand to prejudice the trend and market. Few days back Facebook had introduced a new feature called People Talking About and Enhanced News Feeds.

The new inductions are only proving beneficial for brands they already have substantial market market and have huge Fan base. The newly launched Advanced News Feed benefits only those pages which have more than 100,000 fans or more. An analysis conducted by Edge Rank Checker over 600 Facebook brand pages, which were active during August 19th – September 16th and September 23rd to October 21st, reveals that pages having over 100,000 fans registered a hike of 27.8 percent in likes and comments; where as pages having fans from 10,000 to 100,000 recorded comparatively much lesser hike 8.76 percent.

However, for pages having 1000 fans registered a down fall of 11.64 percent, while others having 1000+ fans have registered a gain of at least 1.76 percent.

Below are the analyzed facts which was conducted over 600 pages during the same period:

  • Views of brand pages on Facebook declined by 22 percent.
  • Nearly 16 percent rise in Likes.
  • Around 14 percent surge in comments.

Advanced News feed has proved beneficial for brands pages having fans above 10,00 and much discouraging for new brands pages. If the trend continues in similar fashion, it will be quite difficult for Facebook to convince the new brands and it may only end up as a lot of struggle.

So, what went wrong with Facebook with its News feed section ? Is Facebook has taken off-focused route for small brands and join the ‘big-to-bigger’ trend. And, in such scenario what will be the best strategy to adopt for such brands to make their social media presence more effective ? Do let us know your views, comments and suggestions in comment box.

Google Reveals Gmail New Look: Is Google Under Complete Make Over ?

0

Google has officially introduced the new and improved Gmail. Today, on official Gmail blog, company has showcased various features which are the part of new Gmail. This, apparently, support the fact that Google is going through major make over. Earlier, Google has introduced few new features for Google+ and also changed the complete look and feel of Google Reader.

Gmail new look has many important functional changes too which makes Gmail much more easier and productive. The sequence of conversation has become more interface reach. Now users can view the sequence of email along with image and better separators.

Besides the new user interface, Gmail also comes with adjustable left side bar now. Users rely more on chat can increase the height of the chat bar by themselves. However, people who rely more on organizational view of email, can do the similar stuff by arranging the height and size of their mail category labels.

However, the biggest improvement Gmail brought in terms of Search functionality. Google has introduced the ‘Auto suggestion’ search functionality with Gmail – similar to search engine. Gmail has also got the advance search facility and now users can perform the search with their emails based upon To, From, Subject and many categorical ways. Though, this options was already available at Gmail in form of “Filters” but was practically hidden as user need to do several clicks to reach this option. Now its available at just one single click.

Besides, Gmail has got many more additional changes like HD themes, density adjustment etc which has made Gmail much more system friendly too.

Google is going through major make over with many of its services. First it was Google+, followed by Reader and now Gmail. Are these efforts as refreshment feel of services or Google is targeting something big to win over its arch rivals in various technology space ?

Company has said that all new changes will be rolled out to users in next few days. User who are quite excited to see all above changes can manually upgrade their Gmail account by clicking on Switch to The New Look Link – which will be visible in many account shortly.

Microsoft Betting Big on Future: Augmented Projector And Future Smartphone

0

Technology has only starting point and it has been proven time and again. This time it is Microsoft who is betting big on future of gadgets – atleast in next five years. Steve Clayton – Microsoft Next Blogger – has revealed the latest work, augment projectors. Interestingly, just few days back company released another futuristic video on smartphone.

Microsoft’s augment projectors work demonstrates how projector will sense the object in combination with gestures. Infact, company took a versatile approach to fit such projectors in various aspects of a human life. They tested it with shopping environment, a virtual arrangements like house decorations, mixing the real word content with the virtual presentation by the help of such projectors.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frGEzlrhve0

Last week, Microsoft released the video on future of Smartphone.  A smartphone that will gel with every activity of your life; no matter what you do and how.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6cNdhOKwi0

However, its not jus the first time that any company has tried to understand and worked on gesture technology known as Sixth Sense. The original idea of mixing gesture in human is almost 8 years old when Pranav Mistry demonstrated the whole idea – a though process of his brain child then.

Infact, there are few other companies who have worked on many similar concept videos like Future of Bus Stop, Future of Touch Technology etc.

A combine view on all such research, idea, concept video makes one thing pretty clear. The future will be rolling on the strong foundation of Touch Technology and there is absolute no debate on this.

Girl Killed Herself on Halloween: Another Dirty Scam on Facebook

0

Scammers don’t miss any opportunity to spin the situation on Facebook. This time it is another dirty trick which claims to have video of a girl who killed herself on Halloween after her father posted a message on her wall. Interestingly, the video has gone viral over Facebook as many users are re-sharing the message with their friends without actually going through the details of the link.

However, while digging, we found it just another scam, like many previous ones, where scammers earn money from affiliates by trick the Facebook users for filling out some a survey. One user will click on the message to see the video, it will lead him to a ‘non-Facebook-page’ which claims to have Girl’s photo along with a brief message about the suicide. The message claims to be connected with a video of suicide but users are asked to share the link with their Facebook friends – before they actually see such video.

But wait, what’s the fun for scammer in this – the affiliate survey which is getting attracting traffic from your act ad network and claims it a pass gate to view the video.

Many of Facebook users, like me, always encourage such acts being as serious social networker. However, there are many who just use Facebook only to build their network and share such messages without actually measuring the potential risk.

So, if you among the one who got such message form any of your network friend, please delete it instantly without being fooled. Infact, even you have already shared such message naively, you can still scroll down little and delete the msg. This will also help – till an extent – to stop such illegitimate broadcast.

Google Introduces New Features With Google Reader And Google+

1

Google is trying its level best to attract more users towards all form of its services. In last few months Google had brought several changes and launched few new features for its sites. Today Google has announced that it has redesigned the user interface of its Reader and has introduced several additional features with Google+. The new design of Google Reader will enable users to have a clear and advanced view of the information sourcing from various sites added in Reader . Meanwhile, users can also get connected to Google Reader via Google +. The new features which were added in Google + will help users to share everything directly in their circle via feed.

Below is the screen shot of new Google reader:-

And, the other one of Google+ new feature:-

However, users’ feedback towards new design of Google Reader are not so positive as around 10,000 of them had already signed patent with Google to save the old design. New design of Google Reader has disappointed Iranian users as they started showing their anger from the day it was announced. The main reason behind such outrage in Iran is the unavailability of any social network site and Google Reader act as a social networking source. Country has also been barred for any news channel and again Google Reader is the only source which connects Iranian internet users with the activities across the globe.

This new design of Google Reader is consuming mixed response and feedback from million of users but, in my view, it is quite attractive and performance has been improved than earlier one.

Have you got a chance to look at your Google Reader ? If you for the roll out of new design, do share your experience with us through comment section below.

Google Hits Microsoft Over Android Patent Campaign [Analysis]

6

The software patent is an abhorrent indication for IT industry; if it will be continued with the similar fashion then it will absolutely spoil innovations. Presently, patent places an ever larger tax on innovations that come from previous concept. It’s clear, if you can’t innovate around the idea, then you must be punished, to pay and pay and pay.

Microsoft is threatening Android phone manufacturers to pay for use of its patent – secured through Novel patent buyout. Obviously, Microsoft has adopted the rule to compete in mobile industry by harassing related players. Google’s business is in growing trend even as the global economy appears to be slowing down, and to its growth, Android OS plays a vital role.

For the third quarter of 2011, Google reported revenue of $9.72 billion which is a 33% year –over-year growth again. Net income has also been on rise, coming in at $2.73 billion up from $2.17 billion in 2010. Google is very excited about its innovative mobile operating system ‘Android’ and continuous growth of android partner ecosystem.

Patent issue, related to Android, has convinced multiple Android vendors – including HTC and Samsung – to sign agreement with Microsoft while both the companies are presently working with Microsoft for Windows Phone 7 OS also.

About the Microsoft’s patent issues, the Google’s CEO-Larry Page-said, “Rather than seeing, Microsoft compete in the market place with their own Smartphone, they have really continued resorting to legal measures to hassle their own customers, right? So it seems kind of odd”.

Microsoft latest patent licensing agreement with Compal was big news in the mobile industry this weekend, which is an Android original device manufacturer (ODM). It has well documented, Microsoft is asserting that at least 23 of its patents are infringed by Android devices. Indeed, Microsoft now claims that it’s intellectual property (IP) licensing agreements cover more than half of the Android Smartphone market. It’s been said that Microsoft stand a chance to make almost half a billion dollars next year from Android licensing fees. Apparently, by IP licensing strategy, Microsoft is making more money from Android than making from its own Window Phone & platform.

Microsoft scored another win in its campaign, when Samsung glisten in the last week, and also stroked patent- Licensing deal with the Google’s Android software using Smartphone and tablets manufacturers. Samsung, world largest manufacturer of Android products, will pay Microsoft an undisclosed fee for every Smartphone and tablet. Previously, HTC, the second-largest maker of phones using Android, Struck a patent-licensing deal with Microsoft.

Not surprisingly, Microsoft views these things differently. In the last decade, Microsoft general counsel-Brad Smith-said; Microsoft has paid $ 4.5 billion licensing fees to companies including IBM, HP, Sun Micro system (now part of Oracle), Cisco and Silicon Graphics. According to him, it is the way, the industry works and has always worked, and also rise of the Smartphone has added a new layer of patent license for the cellphone Business.

He defines that the Smartphone work on three different layers. First layer is radio layer; Qualcomm is the largest patent beneficiary in the radio layer. The company collects about $20 on every Smartphone produced.  The second layer is media technology, allowing music and videos to play on the Smartphone, patent licensing fee is about $3 to $5 a phone and go to varieties of company. And last layer is software layer- computing operating system that animates Smartphone. According to Microsoft and Apple, the companies that are working on this technology for years, like Apple and Microsoft, went first and developed software ideas, upon those software ideas built by Android. Microsoft claimed that Android uses java software technology, developed by its Sun Unit, Oracle contends.

Whereas, Google explained, the Microsoft campaign is not just bad for Android, but bad for the industry and consumers as well as by substituting litigation and deal-making for innovation.

Truly, Microsoft‘s failure at mass-market tablets has decided that if they can’t beat apple and android at popular tablets, they will litigate them instead. Microsoft’s motives are quite clear; instead of developing a competing product, they want to skim off the top from the work of others.

This is just one more step in a patent war that’s going–to spread throughout the IT industry. It’s time to pause – if can’t be stop – the war before it reaches maximum intensity, and years more before the fire begins to die down. Most of this decade will be spent in the patent war, which will reduce innovation, destroy billions of dollars in value.

During this period percentage of internet users associated with Facebook  from India, raised by 53.8 percent, compared to Indonesia 16.8 percent.

It’s an interesting fact to know that India is the third largest country in terms of internet users all across the world. Unfortunately, only 8.3% of population – 100,000,000 users out of 1.21 billion people – is connected with internet. At present U.S is on the top in terms of  internet as well as Facebook users. However, the penetration rate of U.S. has reached above 50 percent on Facebook, which directly refers that in coming days number of users joining Facebook from U.S will be less as compare to India because penetration rate for India on Facebook is 3.24 percent only – The less is the penetration rate, more will be the increment. So,one should not get surprise to see India surpassing U.S. on Facebook in coming two years or so.

India will definitely surpass Indonesia , since the diffusion rate for India is 3.24 percent compared to Indonesia 16.80 percent and from the above data it became clear that India will be the second most populated country on Facebook by the end of this year.

Hope we will celebrate new year with a landmark of India reaching at the second spot on Facebook.
