Google Chrome Fastest Growing Web Browser: Could Overtake Firefox in 2012

The browser market is slowly heating up again as the new babies are steadily improving their market share only at the cost of Microsoft’s Internet explorer. Though, IE still holds the supreme position without any immediate threat, Google’s Chrome could possibly displace it soon. Currently, Chrome secures third position after IE and Mozilla. And with 10 percent annual growth, it will take over the position of Firefox sometime in early 2012.

Industry is recording the fastest growth ever of any browser till date. While Microsoft’s IE and Firefox are on constant decline, Chrome is the only browser which is advancing among users. For September, Chrome’s market share stands to 23 percent compare to Firefox’s 27 and industry leader IE’s 41 percent.

So, what made Firefox to slips away from users’ grip? Probably, the frequent updates, active bug fixes and comparatively slow browsing experience than Chrome. In last few months, Firefox has covered the long way from previous versions to latest version 8. With each version, it left enough room for improvisation and enhancement – picked up with competitors like Chrome. To beat the immense competition, Firefox released multiple updates, updates and enhancements in an interval of every six weeks that kept captivating the eyes of users unlike Chrome which also went through similar enhancement but as background activity.

Facebook Launches “People Talking About”: A Real Time Page Analytics

After so many launches in internet world, it seems like companies are much more focused on Analytics pages and websites. Recently, social media analytics site Socialbakers was backed by Earlybird Venture Capital with a handsome amount of $2 million, and on September 30th Google Analytics added a new feature called “Google Analytics Real-Time Report”. Now Facebook has announced that a new feature for page called “People Talking About” that will help the users to know the statistics of the page. It can be viewed on the pages below the total number of “Likes” and it will be one of four tracked by pages insights. The main idea behind “People Talking About” is to make users aware of the content and to track the convincing contents. This new feature will also motivate creators to formulate their pages more comment-worthy.

“People Talking About” -might not be the Final name, since at the time of press conference Facebook wasn’t sure- will measure various activity related to page, it concludes of:

  • Posting to a Page’s wall.
  • Liking.
  • Commenting.
  • Sharing Page post.
  • Content on the page.
  • Answering a Question posted to fans.
  • Mentioning a page.
  • Liking or sharing a deal.
  • Checking in at your place.

However, Facebook has also announced several new features which are added for administrators and media. It comprises of “Likes”, “Friends of Fans”, and “Weekly Total Reach”. In Friends of Fans users will be able to know the actual number of Friends your fans have. Weekly Total Reach is designed to get actual measurement of how many people have posted something about your page, how many new organizations have referred you as well as how much viral distribution of your page has gotten.

 

David Baser, product manager for Pages Insights, says that despite a raft of new activities that Facebook will be introducing soon under the Facebook Gestures banner, those four metrics will remain and the “Like” will maintain its ranking as a top measurement. “Likes are an expression of identity,” Baser says. “It’s a user saying that I have a relationship with this brand.”

Twitter’s Revenue Is Expected To Touch $400 Million by 2013 [Study]

It’s ‘raining dollars’ for social media giants from all sides. In late July Twitter was backed by Yuri Milner and Russia’s DST with a direct investment of $400 million and later on September 8th, it secured $400 million via fund-raising round. A study suggests that Twitter’s revenue will touch $400 million by 2013. At present it is expected that company revenue will plumb from $45 million earlier year to $139.5 million this year, a hilarious jump of 210%, according to eMarketer.

“Since their debut in April 2010, Twitter’s Promoted Products have proven successful in theU.S.,” Williamson said in a statement from eMarketer. “Marketers have shown solid engagement rates with Twitter advertising — in some cases better than those on Facebook — despite Twitter’s relatively smaller audience.”

When compared with Facebook, Twitter is like a born child. At present the total numbers of active users associated with micro-blogging site is 100 million compare to Facebook’s  800 million active users.

The era of investment is on its peak, specifically in the field of social media. Each day we come across several news related to investment. Recently, micro-blogging site Twitter has secured funding of $400 million.  Following the trend, social analytic site Socialbakers – earlier known as Facebaker – has raised $2 million in a funding round led by European venture investor Earlybird Venture Capital. The funding will facilitate Socialbakers, which was founded by Candytech, a Prague, Czech Republic-based marketing firm, for aggressive expansion plans.

However, Socialbakers says that it is already in profit and can extend its offering for social media monitoring. There are two products offered by the company in social media space:-

  • Engagement Analytics: – company enables statistical analysis of Facebook competition, industry benchmarking, compare in context, best practices, identify key influencers, perform social media audit.
  • EngagementBuilding: – It comprises of manage Facebook pages, scheduled wall posting, user right management; publish custom apps, response management.

Socialbakers also measures statistics of various social media giants like LinkedIn – a professional networking site and Twitter – a micro-blogging site. While Twitter provides stats for users’ account, LinkedIn and Facebook offer stats according to number of users’ in different countries.

Recently Socialbakers was awarded as “100 Tech Start-Up” by The Telegraph and Red Herring Europe.

According to the hatchling Czech company, over 250,000 brands and marketing professional are getting engaged with Socialbakers platform each month, and in 2011 companies like Hindustan Unilever, Nike, Peugeot, Kia Motors, Jack Daniels, Avis, OMD, Samsung, Vodafone and Lufthansa decided to license the premium version of Socialbakers. Currently, company is maintaining the head-count of 55 people and continues to hire opt.

It has been announced that Jason Whitmire, General Partner at Earlybird, will join investor Martin Huml of Runway Capital on Socialbakers board of directors.

There are some new features which are included in AdWords for Video:

  • Advertisers can create video ads in half of the time taken earlier.
  • Video-specific reporting metrics will help them to track the performance of their video campaign.
  •  Targeting viewers based on keywords, demographic, topics, interest category as well as specific publisher placements.
  • Now, charges will not be applied on the advertisers based on impression but on views.
  • Advertisers have to pay only if the users want to watch their ads otherwise there wont be any charges added on advertisers
  • Advertisers can gain valuable insights about their video – who is watching and who is taking action – to improve the effectiveness of video campaign.
