Apple’s regime over Tablet market is expected to stay for another 3 years, securing more than 50% of market share through 2014. Apple’s is maintaining its dominance in Tablet market from the beginning through its revolutionary iPad and its subsequent versions. In year 2011, Apple is expected to cover 73.4% of Tablet market despite of Android’s constant growth.
According to Gartner’s latest report, Apple is unlikely to face any threat from its competitors in Tablet market till 2014. However, the overall market share will be declined year-on-year and may shrink to 46% in 2015. However, this decline will not be driven by combine efforts from other Tablet manufacturers like RIM, HP or MeeGo. It will be sole damage only from Android which is expected to grow at the cost of iOS to claim 35.6 percent market share by 2015.
However, other platforms are expected to secure close to 17 percent of Tablet market by 2015 Despite of its late entry into the Tablet market, Microsoft is expected to contribute 10.5 percent alone which further shrinks the market for rest of competitors like RIM and HP. This year, no other platform is expected to touch even 5 percent of market share.
“We expect Apple to maintain a market share lead throughout our forecast period by commanding more than 50 percent of the market until 2014. This is because Apple delivers a superior and unified user experience across its hardware, software and services. Unless competitors can respond with a similar approach, challenges to Apple’s position will be minimal.” said Carolina Milanesi, research vice president at Gartner.
Compare to last year’s market share of 83 percent, Apple is expected to lose at least 10 percent this year to Android. This trend is anticipated to continue in next few year and as a result Apple may lose little less than half of its Tablet market by 2015 as other OEM’s are becoming bullish with their Tablet offers majorly running over Google’s Android OS.
The overall tablet market is expected to reach 326 million units by 2015. compare to last year’s 17 million, market may record 4 folds growth to reach 63 million Tablets units by end of 2011.
