India is still highly influenced by traditional mobile handsets, thanks to Google’s Android-based cheap Smartphones, which has changed the panorama of Indian Mobile market. Android has incredibly dominated in the shipment of Smartphone in last quarter in Indian mobile market. Nielsen also states that Google apps has greatest impact on the users mind, and that’s why 25% of users times with apps spent on Google’s Apps—Including Android market , Gmail, Google map, and others. Among Google’s Apps, users spent most of time on Android Market and Gmail, 35% and 21% respectively. Beside Android market and Gmail, users spent 11% and 10% on Gtalk and Google Maps respectively.

The effect of age is rarely seen on the Google’s Apps, which remains uniform across all the age group. However, use of Google search is highest among above 40 years and time spent on YouTube is least among 36-40 age groups.

Google Apps are dominating in every segment except in social media and chat, where facebook and Nimbuzz are dominating respectively. In social media, Google+ seems to be struggling, whereas, facebook engagement rate is increasing exponentially.

India is second largest populated country in the world and also ranks second in number of mobile handset users after china. Despite of this, Smartphone penetration in India against population is only 3% which is far behind Singapore. Among youth, only 10% are using Smartphone and 90% are still using traditional mobile handset. Among all Smartphone holders in India, only 20% of the female owns Smartphone, dominate by man with 80%. In contrast, female (55%) population is dominated over male (45%) in Smartphone ownership. However, the Smartphone penetration is estimated to increase in upcoming years in India, and there would be huge opportunity for apps developers.

Google’s Apps dominate in Indian Smartphone market due to greatest penetration of Android devices. There’s prolixity among users to adopt other OS platform rather than Android due to higher price. However, iOS and Windows Phone based Phone are available in India but not as in number as Android devices.
