Twitter Mobile Ads More Effective And Responsive Than Facebook Ads [Report]

In our earlier post, I mentioned that Twitter might touch the 1 billion mark in its ad revenue in 2014 however it will be Facebook which will drive the growth of social media for next few years with significant differences. Interestingly, the latest report from TBG Digitals shows that ads on Twitter page (especially on mobile) showing more impact on the market than ads on Facebook.

Undoubtedly, Facebook ads are more popular among the users due to 900 million+ users network. As a result Advertisers prefer to invest in Facebook than Twitter. In general, such a large audience inside Facebook compared to Twitter will surely be able to produce a good CTRs (Click Through Rate). Although, the number of users per ad on Twitter is less in comparison to Facebook, Facebook mobile ads are less effective than Twitter ads.

facebook_mobile_ads

Facebook’s mobile ads in its News Feed are providing more CTRs (0.588%), which is 7 times more than the ads on the right sight of its “Home Page”(0.083%). While, on the mobile “News Feed’s” CTRs is average 1.140% response. Whereas, 24 million Twitter users agree with 0.266% response for Twitter mobile ads. This because, Twitter provides its user to comment within 140 words per post, where Facebook has no word limits. No doubt, Twitter ads are limited but Facebook allows to write short stories on its ads which able to create a social endorsement.

The above comparisons were between the ads on Twitter’s promoted accounts and Facebook news feed ads. TBG Digital has revised its statement on Friday and estimated a new statistic for Twitter users. According to the new revised report Twitter has shown an engagement of 1-3 % of its ads on desktop and the rates are even higher on mobile.  After including all the Tweets from Twitter promoted brands with non promoted brand, it is clear that Brands engagement on Twitter mobile is three times more than Facebook average brand engagement per ads (averaging 1.140%).

Mobile users prefer less word content and a brief description about the brand.; And Twitter’s 140 character limit helps the users to effectively summarize the complete topic and direct-to-point within the given limits. Eventually, Facebook is trying to generate revenue from its mobile as the company’s new acquisition of different apps and companies clearly showcase these data. It is also a matter of concern that Facebook ads are more popular on its news feed area which is less in comparison to the regular showing ads, on the right side of its home page. However, Twitter allows its users to post directly between tweets rather than any other area on sidebar. Due to which, users stay more engaged with Twitter Ads compare to Facebook.

But I see Facebook Ads more promising in future as the social media giant has recently following the foot-mark of Twitter. Recently Facebook has launched the “Promoted Updates” features for brand and business pages. Similar to Twitter’s promoted Tweets, Facebook Brand pages can also promote any of their updates by paying certain amount based upon the ‘Reach criteria’.

Undoubtedly, Twitter is wining over Facebook from advertisers’ ROI prospective and if the trend continues with growing community of Twitter, it would be more difficult for Facebook to improve its Revenue stream. Interestingly, all such things Facebook need to do when it’s witnessing saturation point in users’ growth in many tops countries like USA, UK and Canada. It’s time for the company to concentrate more on countries which less penetration rate with bigger room to expand like India, China, Brazil etc.

Google Nexus 7 Video Review – “Google Now” A Game Changer ?

Undoubtedly, “Google Nexus 7” has come to market with spectacular features which has given the Tablet devices to new definitions. The Nexus 7 is powered by the great “Google database” and “Jellybean” application which has made it an artificial genius among the Tablet devices. The latest video from “The BGR Show” on Google Nexus 7 reviews the best features of the Tablet.

Nexus 7 outer modeling:

google-nexus-tablet-render

According to the video, the Tablet is slimmer and eye-catching on the front. A user can feel its smoothness due to the backside smooth plastic and the outer hardware modeling looks like Amazon’s “Kindle Fire” which has given the Tablet a classy look. It has one of the best 7 inch widescreen (featuring 1280 X 800 pixels HD display) in the mobile device sector with more brightness and clarity, which is better than the Apple’s iPad screen too.

Google Nexus 7 Operating Systems:

The Tablet has the latest Android “Jelly Bean” and “Tegra 3” 1.5 GHz quad-core processor that makes the device comparatively faster and provides great user experiences.

Google has implemented its latest “Jelly Bean” – Android 4.1 – OS mobile OS in Nexus 7 Tablet. Besides, the improved voice search replies you with very fast, accurate and relevant results (pop cards with answers). “Jelly Bean” provides the user its innovative “Google Now” application experience, which makes it different – but innovative – from Apple’s “Siri” and Samsung’s “S Voice”.

Advantages given by “Google Now”:

“Google Now” gives a personal assistant to the user and informs about details without even asking it in the future, based on your search activity which user would have done in the past. The application gathers all the useful applications in a single database. It’s just like talking to the search engine for information rather than to type. It is pretty accurate and provides the exact data, location details, and calculated values with the voice commands.

New advanced features of Google Nexus 7:

User can also customize its home screen according to his/her choice. It just works as the other Tablet Mobiles available on the market. User can set live wallpapers on the screen and with animated backgrounds. Nexus 7’s Google Chrome browser is identical to Desktop browser. Notifications and messages are expandable and respond to every touch by a lighting mark on the touched area.

Though, it don’t directly compete with Apple’s iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab but the latest features available on Nexus 7 have made it quite competitive for almost every Tablet maker. Eventually, it’s the best Tablet under $200 which could blow down the “Kindle Fire” market.

On the other hand, Microsoft is still struggling to launch its new version of the Tablet. And if company manages to control the price of ‘upcoming’ Tablet under $200 – which seems quite challenging for the company itself – definitely there will be neck-to-neck competition between the Nexus 7 and Microsoft’s Tablet.

So, if you feel quite excited and convince with the capability of Google Nexus 7 Tablet, here is the hands-on review. Don’t forget to write back your views and feedback using comments section below. Enjoy the video !

Google+ Users Are More Satisfied Than Facebook[Study]

Undoubtedly, Facebook is the world’s largest and most popular social networking site with more than 901 million of users. Its simplicity and user-friendly GUI have given the global exposure and wide acceptance, globally. Though Facebook is being accepted in many regions, the security is always a concern among its users. Consequently, users are still reluctant towards their crucial and sensitive information over Facebook.

On the other hand, though the number of Google+ users are less in number, the users are more satisfied with its security and data handling when compared to Facebook. As a newly introduced social network, Google+ emphasizes on avoiding the drawbacks of other social networks – especially Facebook.

The American Customer Satisfaction Index has numbered the social networking websites on the basis of customer satisfaction. According to the report, Facebook has lost nearly 8% of its customer satisfaction, in the year 2012. Where as Google+ users are more satisfied with its usage with over 78% user satisfaction ratio. “Foresee”- the company involved in the total scenario, with “American Customer Satisfaction Index” – said, Google+ is more acceptable among its users than Facebook.

google + gir

Reason behind Google+ success:

According to the report, Google + is attractive, secured and gives lots of priorities to its mobile users. It contains fewer and censored ads when compared to Facebook. Facebook users are facing many problems related to photo tagging.

Note:- Tough Facebook has given complete authorities to its users for blocking and unblocking user’s post. Many users are unaware of the blocking techniques.

The reasons behind Facebook losing its “customer satisfaction”:

Facebook’s newly introduced features are one of the reasons responsible for user’s dissatisfaction. Recently, Facebook changed its TimeLine from the regular view to more complex one. Rapid changes in its existing home page made its user uncomfortable.

Preview of the posted content in the Timeline – which is either adult or offensive; especially those contents tagged by others –  is one of the reasons for the dissatisfaction among the users.

Scores By Industry

Effect on Facebook:

Obviously, users’ dissatisfaction will affect Facebook’s internet traffic. Also the report clarifies that lots of advertisements on the Facebook home page could trigger discomfort among its users.

Even some of the users have not hesitated to install plug-in like “ad block” to get rid of ads, as users are more inclined towards News updates and friends.

Facebook should take care about all of the above issues before implementing any external features on its TimeLine, as the users’ satisfaction is the key of success for every social network – no matter its Facebook or Google+. And if Facebook turn its back towards users’ grievances, it should recall the final destination of predecessor MySpace.

Does Social Media Chow Down The Traffic Of Certain Startups?[Study]

No doubts, social websites have maintained their aura in the cyberspace. Big companies like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc, is not only accessed for social interaction but also to read news, promote brand have discussions etc. However, the traffic to certain websites like a news portal is gradually decreasing due to the availability of news etc in the social networking sites.

Most of the users are no longer going through certain startup sites like a news portal website, as already the users can now view the most popular news feed in their home page. In order to regain the position or traffic, the newly budding social media websites are negotiating with the social media giants like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc. At present, people are using social network to update themselves about the latest happenings or news, to chit chat with friends and even to time pass.

Jobs in social media:

90% of recruiters have visited social networking sites as a part of their screening process. Whereas, 69% of them are rejecting the candidates based upon the content found in their networking profile, and nearly 68% of candidates were hired based on his/her presence on that network. Facebook’ becomes the first job search platform with 65% of seekers (candidates); ‘LinkedIn’ in second position with 63% and ‘Twitter’ is having only 16% (nearly one-fourth). Hence this situations is posing a great threat to the job portal websites. Time spent on job portals by the job seekers is decreasing.

People follow news on social media:

People under the age of 25, in Britain, prefer social media to get themselves aware of the latest news around them. Not only the Britten folks, people from Denmark and other countries also prefer social media for news updates and this situations is raising a huge challenge for the news portals.

Social media in brand promotion:

Small business companies are more likely to place an ad for their product or company rather than any other websites which is exclusively meant for advertising. This means a lot of such ad agencies can now only depend upon business men who are ready to share dollars. And such business men will most probably pay for its ad with the popular ad agency, hence posing a threat to the upcoming ad agencies.

Startups are losing traffic due to the heavy engagement of users in social media websites. Digg (a company which allows users to share news and post link) debuted in 2004,is now in trouble due to the news feeds in Facebook and Twitter, which eventually is responsible for the downfall of the overall traffic to Digg.

Digg founder Kevin Rose pointed Twitter and Facebook for the decreasing traffic to their website and claims that they are losing popularity amongst the users.

Kevin said,

“We were desperately trying to figure out how to get traffic back, A bunch of the community had already revolted by the time we fixed it.”

So Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn has become a threat to the start-up websites. More likely, these words from Kevin will help other social media web users to do well in upcoming future. Or else the new startups should merge with the big names in social media to set up their business.

Facebook Acquires “Spool”: Another Baby Step To Strengthen Mobile Presence

The worlds largest social networking media Facebook, moved one step further and acquired another mobile application company Spool. The giant is more active now as the IPO in NASDAQ has been in unstable condition. Additionally, Facebook is unable to get any eye catching revenue from its mobile sectors.

This is not the first time that Facebook is disclosing its aggressive mentality towards mobile revenue. Facebook launched its first separate ad unit for mobile applications last year. In December last year, the company announced to bring the application on their news feeds. The application gave priority to sponsors to paint their ads on the desktop as per their requirements. After that Facebook relaxed its norms by allowing sponsors to post their ads on the right side of the news feed in Facebook web and also on mobile version.

Now Facebook is trying to strengthen its mobile presence by acquiring another mobile application named Spool – a startup used to simplify the content on mobile devices. As Facebook’s mobile application is one of the widely downloaded applications, Spool will help the users to intact more content over Facebook in a bit easy manner. Most possibly this application will act like a pacemaker for Facebook mobile users.

After the acquisition Spool team said;

We are extremely excited to accelerate our vision and help Facebook’s users connect and share with the people in their lives. We wouldn’t be in a position to have this sort of impact without our supporters and the Spool community. Please accept a heartfelt thank you for supporting us and for affording us this opportunity. (Part of the whole written statement by Spools for their users)

Indeed, this statement is indicating about Facebook’s clear cut vision for mobile sector. If Facebook fails to generate more revenue from its desktop users then there is a bigger possibility to recover its decreased revenue through its mobile ads, as there are significant percentage of Facebook users who access Facebook via mobile devices. Around 83 million Facebook users access the site through mobile devices and spend an average 441 minutes on Facebook every month. Eventually, such a large audience could help Facebook to increase its ad revenue in the future.

Facebook also needs to monetize its mobile traffic effectively by acquiring other ad network provider. At present, the social networking giant is more aggressive to extend its boundary by generating more than $2 billion revenue after monetizing its mobile app.

At present, China and India are holding the 1st and 2nd position respectively, pertaining to the category of highest population and also the rising Asian countries. In Asia, these two countries are most active on internet usage.

Users in China:

The Chinese are active on internet usage, which is more than half (513 million) of the total internet users in Asia (more than 1 billion users). 7 out of top 11 websites in Asia is in China, which is also responsible for high internet penetration.

China banned some of the reputed companies like Google cloud storing system, Twitter, Facebook etc (Great Firewall). The Chinese websites like Baidu, “QQ”, Pengyou, “Sina Weibo”, Qzone, Ren Ren, Kaixin etc are dominating the Chinese internet world. It can also be said that some of these sites are the alternatives to Google, Facebook etc. “Sina weibo”- having the highest number of users (in china), has over 300 million active users, who update 100 million posts per day. Social networking site QZone has more than 200 million users in China. And other non Chinese companies are eager to do expand their market in China.

Users in India:

India is having more than 121,000,000 internet users who are constantly in touch with the internet. After China, India is the 2nd top most position of highest number of internet users, followed by Japan with 101,228,736 number users in Asia.

Twitter: A New Projection For Social Media Ad Marketing[Study]

The latest prediction for Twitter is that it might touch the billion mark in its ad revenue in 2014. According to the latest estimation by Bloomberg, Twitter would cross $1 billion by 2014 in its ad revenue. And if we look back into the past, huge companies like Facebook and Google had taken 6 and 5 years respectively to achieve the ad revenue of $1 billion, whereas Twitter might take 8 long years.

In the present scenario, Twitter is much more stable and it is assumed that, it will be more established in the upcoming few years. The last few weeks remained crucial for Twitter as there were  rumors  about Twitter’s downfall. However, all the indigestion was resolved and now, Dick Costolo (CEO of Twitter) is running the Social Media business quite comfortably.

According to eMarketer’s report, Twitter will leapfrog from last year sales revenue of $139.5 million, up $540 million in the year 2014. More than 140 million users on Twitter, sending over 300M tweets per day, might help the association to generate good revenue from its ads. Shares, Comments and Retweets on ads are the ultimate factors for Twitter to generate high revenue. Indeed, the attractive changes on Tweeter are attracting users.

“The marketers who have used Twitter’s advertising opportunities have been pleased,” said Nate Elliott, an analyst of Forrester Research Inc. (FORR) in New York.

“Twitter’s going to be able to push forward and continue to make more money from it.”, he added.

Twitter is spreading its empire to other countries to capture more users. The California-based company is now available in many countries. Twitter has gained its popularity in Japan with 30 million active users and Japanese language is used as the second most used language on Twitter. It’s a general thing to say that, increase in the number of users will eventually lead to more number of Sharing and Retweeting, which means more revenue. According to eMarketer, Twitter is going to incur revenue of $150 million instead of $139.5 million in this year, which was a prediction in late January of this year.

Facebook’s decision to increase number of ads on home page could make discomfort for its active users. Even some of the users have not hesitated to install plugins like ad block to get rid of from ads. Undoubtedly, by including additional ads on the Facebook News Feed, the social networking website is going to generate more revenue, but it could lose a significant number of users. In this scenario, Twitter will be the ultimate option for the marketers who want to invest more on social networking ads.

Ads On Facebook’s Home Page: Is It Good Or Bad For Users [Study]

Recently, Facebook has announced to increase the number of ads on user’s home page. Facebook’s revenue is steadily declining due to the poor performance of its IPO (Initial public offering) on NASDAQ since its launch in May of this year. In order to recuperate revenue loss, Facebook is now focusing upon its main source of revenue (via ads).

Facebook has recently released its demo version for the website, where it has increased the number of ads from 6 to 10 on the user’s home page. As per demo version, users can see 10 different ads on their Timeline. After the heavy IPO crashes, Facebook is looking for alternatives to keep up its pace. Previously, the ad limit was 6, later it was increased to 7 , and as the social networking giant has revealed in its demo version, number of ads on users home would be increased to 10 in coming days. However, it’s not officially declared, but we might expect 10 ads on Facebook Time Line in future.

As Facebook’s users are more active on posts, Facebook authorities assume that the users might also be involved more on their ads (as per the Facebook blog). Companies investing (for ads) on Facebook are quite assured with brand promotions. Solariat is a company monitoring on all social media activities for a particular brand and the CEO of the company spotted Facebook ads as the most revenue generating source compare to other social networking sites. In addition to this, Solariat is going to fix problems pertaining to Facebook brand promotions and ad representation. Companies (like GM Motors) stopped their sponsorship from Facebook ads, showing reason as it is not worthy.

Indeed, in the future, Facebook will encourage more and more users to go through its ads and brands. But, there’s a question, will Facebook users accept these new updates? To engage users on social networking sites through ads is really a very tough task for marketers due to lack of interest of users towards ads. On social networking sites, users are always concerned with building friendship and sharing stuffs. And I think, Facebook’s decision to increase number of ads on home page could make discomfort for its active users. Even some of the users have not hesitated to install plugins like ad block to get rid of from ads. Undoubtedly, by including additional ads on the Facebook News Feed, the social networking website is going to generate more revenue, but it could lose a significant number of users.

Social Media Security: How To Create A Complex Password [Infographic]

Indeed, Social media security has become a big issue for internet users. Hackers are now more active on social networking websites, as LinkedIn reported 6.46 million passwords hacked during last month. Besides, a significant number of passwords were also hacked on Twitter a few months before. On Twitter, the passwords of even some celebrities including Britney Sphere and Lance Armstrong were hacked a few months before. Most important paraphernalia is here, the hackers astounded the world after hacking the Twitter account of America’s President “Mr. Obama” and also of spiritual Guru “Mr. Dalai Lama”, the man known as the symbol of peace. For avoiding hacking,  Veracode application security testing platform has carved an Infographic to help the people to stay safe from future hacking.

According to the Infographic, it is really very hard to keep social networking platform 100% secure. As more and more people share photos, comments and more with friends globally via social networking platform, it’s tough to find out the “black sheep” among millions, responsible to spread out viruses and cyber attacks.

Social media websites are using malware applications to gather sensitive info and use it for their advantages. Facebook’s ‘KoobFace’ is a malware application, generating $2 million profit for Facebook. The application uses ‘compromised computers’ to build a peer-to-peer botnet. The malware applications used by variant social networking websites are responsible for security vulnerabilities.

It has been noticed that 30% of passwords are having less than 6 characters, while 60% password consists only alpha and numeric characters. On the other hand, 50% of users use slang, dictionary words and constructive digits for their passwords.

How to avoid password hacking:
  • Password length should be greater than 8 characters.
  • Password should be a complex combination of symbols, letters (both upper and lower case) and numbers.
  • Change the password in every three months (especially if you feel that your password is being leaked).
  • Avoid using same password in different accounts.

Who Killed Orkut: Facebook Or Google Itself [Study]

I was shocked, when I opened my Orkut account and  found not a single scrap from most of my friends since 4 to 5 months. Already there are lots of news about “Orkut’s death” for which Facebook is held responsible. To inquire about this, I surfed various “social media monitoring websites” (like Social Bakers), and I found that Orkut was completely removed from their web monitoring portal. One of the biggest faces in social networking history, especially in India and Brazil, Orkut is slowly on its way to rest in peace.

Analysts stressed that the main reason behind Orkut’s lose was Facebook’s inevitable growth and advanced features. No doubts, it was one of the most common reasons for the downfall of Orkut especially in India and Brazil. However, Google is also partly responsible for Orkut’s pitfall, as Orkut failed to further impress fans, in the war against Facebook.

Orkut Vs Facebook:

At the end of April 2010, Orkut had 19.7 million unique visitors compared to Facebook, with 18 million visitors worldwide. Facebook grabbed the number one position for the first time in July 2010 with 20.9 million visitors, up 179%, a year ago. Where as Orkut registered a growth of only 16% at the same period. In July 2010, more than 33 million internet users, aged 15 and above, visited social networking sites in India, representing 84% of the total Internet audience. India’s total Internet audience grew 13 % and the social networking usage rose 43%. This made India the world’s seventh largest market for social networking. Amongst the top social networking sites, Twitter had the most impressive growth with  a 239 % increase in the number of visitors since July 2009. So there is another question about why Twitter is not held responsible for Orkut’s degradation?

How Google is responsible:

The search engine god, Google ( Father of Orkut) would have taken even more necessary steps for Orkut in its fight against the strong social networking beasts. But instead of that, Google launched Goolge+. Though Google is successful in promoting Google+, Google could have equally contributed towards the success of Orkut as well. In addition to this, users are migrating from Orkut to Google+ directly, as the user doesn’t need any further registration.

Zynga Is On Its Way To Take Over Mobile Social Media Networking [Study]

One of the most widely used – third party Social gaming application provider, Zynga is pretending to take over the mobile social networking world. The firm’s latest acquisition from past one year shows some exclusive facts and figures.

Zynga’s present status:

Zynga is one of the top revenue providing company for Facebook. According to CNET news, the firm is  having more than 292 million monthly users who are actively indulging in Zynga gaming apps like CityVille, Zynga Poker, Draw Something, Hidden Chronicle, Farm Ville, Caste vile, Words With Friends, Empires & Allies, Scramble With Friends, Café World, The Pioneer Trail, Indiana Jones TM, Adventure World and the most famous of all Mafia Wars. In addition to this, Zynga is the third-party gaming application provider for Facebook which counts a healthy revenue from Zynga inc.  65 million users are daily players  and 22 million are mobile users. Currently in Zynga, 64,000 words related games are played; 43,000 pictures are drawn in the application; 38,000 play poker games; 250,000 gifts are opened by friends; 140,000 game turns; and more than 5,000 chat online. In addition to these, there are over 1 million active players per second and  2.8 billion social interactions take place per day, with 1.8 trillion minutes of play over the last three years.

In the year 2011 Zynga accounted for nearly one-fifth (19%) of Facebook’s total revenue and 15% revenue in the first quarter of 2012. 11% cash payment was paid by Zynga in 2011 and 12% in the first quarter of this year.

And I have already described that there might be a possibility of Zynga leaving Facebook in the future. Zynga launched its own web site, Zynga.org, to promote their games. Through Zynga.org, Zynga gamers raised more than $10 million. Meanwhile, recently Zynga has acquired many companies like OMGPop, Five Mobile (Toronto), Astor App Studio (New York), Page 44 Studio (Sanfrancisco) and Game Doctor (Germany). These companies relate to the mobile gaming zone. Indeed, it is also an evidence which shows Zynga’s next step towards the mobile (social gaming) zone.

Why Zynga is targeting mobile (social gaming) industries :

The latest iOS and Android mobile phone are being used by a huge number of audience worldwide. It’s a matter of concern that Zynga is targeting those folks who are spending a lot of time on Social  games on their mobile. As the social networking giant like Facebook and Twitter failed to cast eye-catching activity in mobile, Zynga might be taking the initiative steps in the mobile social networking field.
