Amazon started its business as “Earth’s Biggest Bookstore” in July 1995. Interestingly, in just over two years, the number of full-time Amazon employees increased from just 158 by the end of December 1996 to 614 by the end of 1997. That’s representing a whopping 288.6% YoY growth in Amazon’s employee count.

By the end of 2011, the total number of Amazon employees reached 56,200, including full-time and part-time employees. That’s a whopping 66.8% YoY increase from December 2010 when the company had approximately 33,700 employees around the world.

In December 2013, Amazon employee count topped 100,000 people, globally. The retail giant employed approximately 11,7300 full-time and part-time employees from all over the world.
