In Q1 2019, Amazon quarterly net income reached an all-time high of $3,561 million ($3.6 billion), with an astonishing 118.6% YoY growth. However, in Q3 2019, the global net income of Amazon fell to $2,134 million in Q3 2019 – the lowest net income since Q1 2018. The company witnessed a massive 26% YoY and 18.7% QoQ decline in its Q3 2019 net profit.

One must note that in fiscal Q4 2018, Amazon quarterly net income crossed $3-billion mark for the first time, globally. The revenue also rose to a record-high $72.4 billion during the fourth quarter.

As the graph shows, Amazon reported its first profitable quarter in fiscal Q4 2001 since its inception. After reporting the combined loss of -$572.4 million in Q1, Q2 and Q3 2001, the company generated a net profit of $5.1 million during Q4 2001. However, in Q1 2002, the retail giant again reported a net loss of $23 million.

It is important to note that fiscal 2004 was the first time when Amazon posted profits in all of its four quarters. The company generated $111 million in Q1, $76 million in Q2, $54 million in Q3 and a whopping $347 million in Q4 2004. This trend continued till fiscal 2011.

The graph also reveals that between fiscal 2001 and 2010, the Washington-based giant performed much better in the fourth quarter compared to the first three-quarters of each of those years.
