Facebook Stimulates Older People in India – A promising India for Facebook [Report]

1

Indeed India is one of the most emerging markets for Facebook by all the ways. Constantly, company has put multi level efforts and investments to have substantial impact on Indian people in last couple of years. Most interestingly, in September, Facebook has witnessed positive surge among older users in India as well as abroad.

As per a report from Inside Facebook, users aged 35 to 44 grew by nearly 20 percent in India in September. This excites the company due to sign of Maturity and expansion of Facebook in India beyond its usual stronghold among younger users.

As a tendency of Old age groups, Older users often get enthralled by the moves of teens and young generation and follow them their footmarks – especially when it comes to joining the stuffs like social networking & online presence. Facebook is no exception with the mature markets where users between 55 -65 age group are leading the way in United States, Canada and Argentina.

However, Facebook is still driven by young users who enjoy the aroma of tons of features and stands between 18 – 25 age group. Undoubtedly, this young age group holds the vital role in Facebook growth in India as population naturally skews younger.

Facebook Growth in India

Facebook has been grown to 13.5 million users in India alone in September. The 8.7 percent growth is the fastest rate among all 16 of the major markets claimed by Inside Facebook. With more than 1 billion population, Indian economy is still awaiting to reach to the real potential of growth. With such strong future commitment and potential, Indian market has been one of the major focus areas for Facebook. Recent inauguration of the Facebook office in Hyderabad, which started functioning from Thursday 30 September 2010, is a real example of this.

Apparently, India is one of the last major markets where Facebook had lagged a competitor, namely Google’s Orkut. Facebook has recently surpassed the Orkut, another the major social networking website in India, by securing more Unique users, according to Google Ad Planner.

However, Indian still has long way to go especially when it comes to Social media. Despite of huge Market potential and reputation as a technology hub across the globe, penetration is still extremely low with the social network reaching just 1.2 percent of the country’s 1.1 billion people. According to Economic Times of India, Internet is reaching only to 81 million users across the country and daily active users are further low.

To count in Business scenario, Facebook is slowly gaining reputation and hold among the Indian brands and companies. By launching few business oriented features like Pages and News & Feeds, Facebook is trying its best to hold the control with corporate like Linkedin.

On the other hand Facebook is trying to join the hands with few existing market leaders in India which have substantial reach to Indian customers. Recently Facebook signed a deal with Bharti Airtel in July to bring free access to http://m.facebook.com so local users won’t have to use up their credits for logging in to the site. Analysts feel that without integration with phone & mobile it will be difficult to reach the double-digit figure for Facebook in India.

With such efforts, activities, investments and collaboration, Facebook seems to be riding high with the future growth of country’s economy and internet business for sure.

Much awaited and one of the most anticipated smartphone from Nokia has been started to ship today. Nokia’s N8, first phone ever which is running on Symbian 3, has been started to reach to customers hand who have been pre-booked the phone from August through Nokia’s website.

However, The availability of the phone will vary country to country. The company will respect and be committed for the customers who have shown interest and trust in Nokia and pre-booked the phone, the company said. Company is expecting to move further with broader rollout over the coming few weeks.

After much of rumors of delay in rollout, which later denied by Nokia, company has released the phone on schedule time. Due to high competition from Apple and Samsung Nokia was going through tremendous pressure from market to release N8 as soon as possible. While Nokia just witnessed a major change at CEO level, it was important for new leader to have successful and timely launch of first product after he took control.

Nokia’s hogly anticipated first smartphone which is running on Symbian 3 has already managed to capture th large number of preorders in Nokia history, as claimed by company. Consumers started booking the phone from August when company opened the website for orders.

Nokia’s new baby, N8 sports a 3.5-inch AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) touch screen with a 640×360 glass display. Built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n provide the connectivity. But it’s in the area of multimedia where the phone is aiming to shine. Therefore company has recently released World’s Smallest Character Animated Film which was shot through Nokia N8 itself.

With Nokia dubbing it the world’s best camera phone, the N8 incorporates a 12-megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and a Xenon flash intended to let people snap high-quality photos. The phone can also record and play HD videos and offers both HDMI output and Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound, so it can be hooked up to a TV and home theater system. Users can edit their photos and videos on the phone and then transfer them to an external hard drive via the built-in micro USB connector or upload them to Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks.

For entertainment on the go, the N8 lets people tune into Web TV with such channels as CNN, E Entertainment, Paramount, and National Geographic.

Nokia has beefed up its Ovi Store for the N8 with access to a greater variety of mobile apps. The free Ovi Maps turns the N8 into a GPS device by providing walk and drive directions throughout more than 70 countries, Nokia said. The Ovi Maps app also lets people view public transportation in 85 cities around the world and tap into real-time traffic, speed limit warnings, and access to parking garages and gas stations.

The N8 the first in a series of smartphones that Nokia plans to release based on the new Symbian 3 software.

Twitter Surpasses MySpace with 96 Million Unique Visitors [Analysis]

3

The new piece of information is surely going to excite the Twitter management, specially to company’s Chief Operating Officer Dick Costolo who is going to address several news conferences and seminars in coming days – Twitter has managed to cross over MySpace, one time highly appreciated social networking web portal, in terms of monthly unique visitors last month.

According to latest report released by online research firm ComScore Inc, four-year-old-micro blogging website Twitter.com has become No3 social networking-type service provider in the world after surpassing MySpace in Unique Visitors figures. While the difference is marginal, Twitter shows promising growth in coming months.

In August, Twitter reserved 96 million unique visitors against MySpace which stands with 95 million visitors in the same month. However, Twitter manages to grow 76% compare to drop of 17% of MySpace from the same period last year.

Furthermore Twitter’s growth is going to be exponential, as expected by company, after the launch of new design at www.twitter.com which has been launched two weeks ago. New design seems to follow Facebook and could draw in users two uses the services through third party tools like TweetDeck.

However, both Twitter and MySpace are dwarfed by Facebook, which grew by 54% to 598 million unique visitors in August, and Microsoft’s Windows Live Profile, which integrates with the company’s web-based email and other services and had more than 140 million visitors.

At the other hand Microsoft is also not giving up its place so easily. Constantly company is putting efforts for retaining its share, atleast, of Windows Live. Currently Windows Live Profile has been growing at a pace of about 10% per year. For the past year Google’s Orkut service has remained flat, at about 55 million visitors, with most users being located in India and Brazil.

Why MySpace lagged behind

The growth of Twitter is not a magical night move. Constant loss of users, failure to add new features and getting the visitors pulse wrong were few major reasons which pulled MySpace down.

However, there is no direct comparison between Twitter and MySpace as both the companies serves different set of functionality to similar user base. While MySpace offers feature like music sharing, chatting, photo sharing and self personal networking Twitter is more focused on instant messaging distribution and forced networking (followers) concept.

Another main reason behind Twitter’s success is language functionality. While Twitter is a multilingual service, MySpace is still available in only 15 languages which make the adoption of MySpace services restricted to geographies. Twitter is much simpler in terms of usage through mobile than MySpace. While MySpace offers only networking services, Twitter take advantage of networking as well as micro-blogging service offerings.

Some of the analysts credit Facebook for such steep decline in MySpace’s popularity. Since Twitter also got launched almost the same time with Facebook, it’s enjoying indirect benefits from the enormous growth of Facebook. Facebook blew past MySpace back in early 2008 to take the top spot globally, according to ComScore data

The seven-year-old MySpace, meanwhile, is trying to cast itself as the place to try out new music and entertainment, and a platform for musicians to interact with fans. It also is working on overhauling its home page.

“Any comparisons between MySpace and other Internet services are irrelevant as MySpace’s mix of offerings is uniquely different and specifically focused on audiences under the age of 35,” said Rosabel Tao, a MySpace spokeswoman, in a statement. (MySpace is owned by News Corp., which also owns The Wall Street Journal.)

Carolyn Penner, a Twitter spokeswoman said in a statement: “While we generally don’t comment on third-party statistics, the growth measured by others doesn’t surprise us. We’re seeing 370,000 new accounts a day.”

With such passionate comments, it would be interesting to see the future of Social Networking portals specially when Twitter will compete with Facebook (we hope so one day ).

“You Get A Life” – Claims New window Phone 7 Ads

3

It is always excitement to see how big companies positions their new baby, especially via ads in which they promises the mountains. Being as one of the Windows users for years, I was also excited when I first heard about Windows Phone 7 release which is reportedly to be launch on 8 November this year. Two new ads of Windows Phone 7, also featuring upcoming HTC Modrian phone, have been truly emotional which has never been seen from Microsoft earlier.

However, two new ads, which appear slightly unfinished, have leaked via WMPowerUser, and there is no hammer and sickle, no mention of Cuba, not even some sad, slick promise that your life will be revolutionized

For myself, I am pleased that my future watching of the NFL and the San Francisco Giants’ torture-filled hurtle toward the playoffs will not be interrupted by Microsoft promising me some techie nirvana but, instead, a human one. I know many of you will be fascinated at the appearance of the HTC Mondrian in these ads, a device that might even be making its debut before your eyes.

One thing clearly stands out from both the ads that upcoming phone is really going to be a revolutionary product for people and more importantly for Microsoft itself. Microsoft hasn’t often managed to sit an emotional zeitgeist on its lap and tickle it gently, it is thoroughly uplifting to consider a Microsoft product as being both focused on a human truth and just very slightly subversive.
We would like to present both the ads and leave it on you that how far this much ambitious phone is going to get you closer to life.

Is Windows Phone 7 Ready to Launch on November 8 ?

1

Two web publications have independently reported that Windows Phone 7 will launch in Europe on October 21. They both cite sources “familiar” with Microsoft and its plans. Microsoft is under tremendous pressure to launch Windows Phone 7, specially after the launch of iPhone 4 from Apple, GalaxyS from Samsung and N8 from Nokia.

While we’re keeping this in the rumor category, it does seem to add up. Previous reports have named October, and Microsoft just a few weeks ago announced that the Windows Phone 7 software is ready for release. It’s just a matter of when manufacturers will be shipping their phones.

The initial report from Spanish website El Economista said the phones would be released in Spain on October 21, but another report that popped up at Neowin added the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy to the list. Neither report gives any indication as to when Windows Phone 7 will launch in the United States, but it’s a safe bet that the U.S. launch would occur within a few days of the European one.

Neowin also reports that Microsoft will show off its phones at an event in New York City on October 11, and that Microsoft will partner with a popular London-based radio station to promote the phones in the UK.

Latest, another online digital publishers Engadget has reported the launch of such phone on November 8. Engadget informed that Microsoft expert Paul Thurrott updated that while Redmond’s indeed holding an October 11th shindig in NYC, it’s not a Windows Phone event… but his source tells him the long-lost US launch date is actually November 8th.

Windows Phone 7 has some very promising features, but this weekend some techies were disappointed to hear that Microsoft doesn’t plan to support data tethering with the devices. Will you be picking one up anyway?

Samsung Galaxy Tab – Live in Action; A Thorough Video Overview

1

If you are among the ones who are enthralled with the Samsung’s latest bet in Tablet market – Samsung Galaxy Tab – but still struggling with your own mindset towards its features, then you must be thankful for Samsung for this video – probably one of the most enhanced and detailed video overview of any Tablet yet.

A nine minute long official video which demonstrates the basic features of the device, including the email client, seems very impressive and promising. Samsung’s official video tries to convince the viewers towards the smooth navigation and easy zoom feature.

Loaded with Android 2.2, Galaxy Tab also demonstrate the minimum navigation and clicks while using its email client. Multiple integration of Facebook, Gmail and Hotmail in calendar is  another feature which really impress the viewers.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAbsmHMAhrQ&feature=player_embedded#!

Video also displays Gmail account with what appears to be starred emails. However, it’s not clear if those stars are actually tied to Gmail. So, is a star just a star, or a star? Just one of many things to ponder as you watch the complete video after the break.

Just last week company has launched the device in U.S. market and getting good response from the customers. As per the few reports, Samsung can possibly launch Galaxy Tab in India by end of October of early November this year.

Novell launches Novell Cloud Manager

1

Novell Inc., a leading provider of infrastructure software, recently announced the launch of Novell cloud manager. This new solution will allow users to create and manage cloud computing environment more efficiently as compared with proprietary technology stacks.

With the official launch of Cloud Manager, Novell continues to proceed on the path of cloud computing, which includes its WorkloadIQ product roadmap, a series of products catering to the needs of intelligent workload management (IWM). Novell’s Cloud Manager makes it easy for customers to build and keep tabs on their private cloud computing environments as an extension of existing data center resources.

WorkloadIQ assists in integrating identity and security into information technology (IT) workloads, thereby enabling customers to deliver IT services to end users across physical, virtual and cloud environments.

Novell Cloud Manager helps clients speed up their IT services. It automatically creates and deploys workloads into the virtual environment based on some pre-defined workload templates. This shortens workload provisioning time span, making the entire process faster and smoother.

Built from the ground up as a cloud computing management platform, Novell Cloud Manager is one of the few cloud management products to offer a single, comprehensive console that all stakeholders – business unit leaders, application teams and IT management – can use to request, approve, manage and report on IT services across their entire infrastructure. It is hypervisor-agnostic, which is becoming more important as today’s enterprises increasingly deploy a mix of hypervisors in their data centers.

Novell Cloud Manager currently supports multiple hypervisors such as VMware Inc.’s vSphere, Microsoft Corp.’s Hyper-V and open source Xen. The solution also supports operating systems such as SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat Inc’s Enterprise Linux.

This flexibility allows clients to select only what they really need, thereby reducing unnecessary hardware and software costs. Moreover, the Cloud Manager ensures security and privacy to the cloud. A built in connector to Novell Sentinel allows security managers to correlate events from Novell Cloud Manager with other events detected in the cloud or any other location.

Novell is very optimistic about its new Cloud Manager though it will face stiff competition from VMware Lifecycle Mnager, DynamicOPS VRM, BMC Software Inc.’s Cloud Lifecycle Manager and Hewlett Packard Co.’s Insight Orchestration.
