Huawei Mate 30 Pro: Best Camera Smartphone

Huawei has introduced Huawei Mate 30 Pro with quad-camera setup at the rear. The primary 40Mp camera with f/1.6 aperture and OIS is capable of capturing stunning photographs. Complimenting it with another 40Mp Ultra-wide camera with f/1.8 aperture, and 8Mp Tele and ToF 3D depth-sensing camera Huawei takes the still photography from smartphone to a whole new level. In DXOMark ranking Huawei Mate 30 Pro score 131 in still images, that actually helped the device to beat its closest rival Samsung Galaxy S10+.

The improved processing power of Kirin chipset and newly deployed AI-RAW algorithm that offers improved noise reduction at RAW level allow Huawei Mate 30 Pro capturing images with jaw-dropping quality. The super-resolution model at RAW level for better texture and detail make the Zoom in feature of the rear camera more adorable.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro sports 32Mp front camera. The selfie camera, however, doesn’t impress DXOMark review team as much as the latest Galaxy smartphones from Samsung. With 93 DXOMark score the front camera of Huawei Mate 30 Pro stands at fourth position in the list of best front camera smartphone, trailing behind Galaxy Note 10+ 5G, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10 5G.

In the video section, once again Huawei has done the superb job with Huawei Mate 30 Pro. Stabilisation and Autofocus feature with video is quite impressive. Overall, the device scores 100 in DXOMark ranking in terms of video photography.

Undoubtedly, Huawei Mate 30 Pro has taken the competition of mobile photography to a whole new level with overall 113 DXOMark score. While 2020 belongs to quad-camera smartphones as leading OEMs are gearing up to introduce powerful smartphones with quad-camera lenses. However, under the hood processor and inbuilt AI capabilities will play a vital role in capturing images and videos with jaw-dropping quality.

Despite all the impressive initial reviews and cutting edge technology, the fate of Huawei Mate 30 Pro hangs in balance due to the unavailability of Google Apps on the device, thanks to US-China trade war that resulted in Google revoking the license of Android for Huawei. The company insiders, however, have confirmed that there is a way to have Google apps installed on the device.

DXOMARK is the trusted industry standard for smartphone, camera and lens image quality measurements and ratings. For scoring and analysis of camera capabilities of a smartphone, it captures and evaluates over 1600 test images and more than 2 hours of video both in controlled lab environments and in natural indoor and outdoor scenes, using the camera’s default settings.
