RCom to launch IPTV services across Mumbai, Delhi !

One of the largest Mobile service provider in india, Reliance Communications ( RCom) hs planned to launch Internet Protocol Television services ( IPTV) in Mumbai & Delhi in next 3 months, a top official informed.

“We plan to start our proposed IPTV service initially in Delhi and Mumbai in the next three months. In the second phase, we also have plans to introduce it in six other cities,” RCom’s chief executive officer (DTH and IPTV) Sanjay Behl said.

IPTV operates on video signals received via the net, using a set-top box that will make TV viewing more interactive, Mr Behl said.

Moreover, IPTV will offer the largest library of national, international and regional video content, such as, movies and music, among others. Besides, customers can have a choice of over hundred TV channels, including high-definition (HD) channels and exclusive Reliance channels, Mr Behl said.

IPTV uses standard networking protocols, which promises lower costs for operators and lower prices for users. Using set-top boxes with broadband internet connections, video can be streamed to households more efficiently than current coaxial cable.

In the past, MTNL and BSNL have launched IPTV. The Asia-Pacific IPTV market revenues are projected to cross the $3-billion mark by 2013.
