The overall PC market in India saw good momentum in the first half of 2018 (H1 2018), primarily due to the stable consumer spending and the execution of special projects.
However, India’s PC market witnessed some challenges in the second half of 2018 (H2 2018), in both consumer and commercial segment. That was primarily due to the aggressive stocking of inventory, drop in demand and impact of processor shortages.
HP Inc. continues to dominate India’s overall PC market with a whopping 31% share as of December 2018.
Dell Inc. secured the second spot in India’s traditional PC market, accounting for 23% share in CY 2018, compared to 22.4% share in CY 2017. However, the Dell PC shipments in India declined 0.2% YoY due to the huge decline in its shipments in the consumer market.
Lenovo market share in India’s PC market in 2018 was 20.6%, compared to 20.3% share in 2017. The company’s consumer PC business grew an impressive 17% YoY in 2018, driven by the consumer mindshare in the ultraslim notebook category, the company’s focus on online channels, and regional exclusive store penetration.
Apple captured nearly 3.9% share of India’s PC market in 2018, with 0.4 million units of devices shipped.
In CY 2017, the overall share of Acer Group in India PC market was 12.2%, which declined to 12% in CY 2018. The company also saw a decline in its PC shipments, from 1.2 million in 2017 to 1.1 million in 2018.
