Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is allegedly manufacturing cheaper iPhone minus a few of the vital features targeting a specific country. The authenticity of this is yet to be proved. However, this extremely raging rumour is steaming in the iPhone market for a while now and a visible impact can be seen on the buyers.
This is also a piece of on-going news in China’s Global Times, which tends to claim that Apple is manufacturing a fresh series of cheaper iPhone exclusively for Chinese buyers that may exclude some key features like Face ID sensors in favour of an under-display fingerprint scanner.
Why? Apparently to make it cost-efficient there!
According to the rumoured report, in addition to its successful successors – iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max – Apple might also launch a whole other range of iPhones. These models will comparatively be cheaper than the others.
The report further adds that Apple aims to manufacture these phones, especially for the Chinese markets and that they won’t be sold anywhere else. The major reason for this alleged huge step taken by Apple could be the declining sales of iPhones in China, which also happens to be the largest market for the company outside the US.
China accounts for nearly 17% of Apple’s global revenue every quarter. During the last few quarters, however, the contribution of China to Apple’s overall revenue is declining. In fiscal Q1 2019, Apple’s revenue from China tanked to $13.7 billion, down by a whopping $5 billion in a single quarter.
According to the source, Apple has derived that the production of a new line of product by cutting some features along with the prices will prove helpful to tackle the issue. The newly designed iPhone unit will compete with high-on-demand brands like Xiaomi and Huawei, that are tagging their comparatively powerful devices with competitive prices.
Apple has already removed the physical home button in its sparkling iPhone X to offer a bewitching sleek spotless design, making it one of the most iconic products in its series of smartphones! Furthermore, the company has recently aimed to launch a whole new iPhone wing with an in-display, fingerprint scanner just for China!
The sales of iPhones in other regions are also declining. Other cheap and affordable models likes of OnePlus 7 Pro and Galaxy S10 are bringing enough of damages. Since Apple has never been sceptical of its ideas and challenges up until now, this reported rumour also seems to be up and about.Â
