Samsung Galaxy S10 Variants To Take New iPhone XS Series Head-To-Head

Must Read

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has rocked the smartphone world with their decision to discontinue iPhone X and release three new iPhones – iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. Now, looks like Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005930) is following the footstep of Apple. Rumours had been going around for some time now that Samsung is going to release three new models in its Galaxy S10 flagship category. Recent leaked model numbers of unreleased Samsung smartphones confirmed that the rumour is indeed true.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Model Numbers & Specification

Rumours are making round that the three models of Samsung Galaxy S10 are called SM-G970F, SM-G975F, and SM-G973F. This signifies a break in the usual Samsung tradition to release two variants of their usual Galaxy S flagship. Moreover, the model numbers for the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 plus are SM-G960 and SM-G965 while that of Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 plus are SM-G950 and SM-G955, respectively. The manner in which the numbers are encoded confirms that the leaked model numbers are indeed variants of the Samsung Galaxy S10 flagship.

However, the third model -SM-G973- still remains a mystery. Reference from the previous model numbers doesn’t help because of the fact that Samsung has been pulling away from their usual norm of releasing two variants of its flagship. However, speculation suggests that the mystery variant is indeed going to be a cheaper entry model of the Galaxy S family. The fact that it is cheaper suggests that it will be devoid of a few features that would accompany the normal Galaxy S10 flagship smartphone. Rumours suggest that SM-G973F will only be provided with a single camera on the rear. While Galaxy S10 (SM-G970F) is speculated to be equipped with a dual rear camera.

The Galaxy S10 Plus (SM-G975) is supposed to take it one step further, with speculation of a triple camera setup at the back and a dual camera setup up front.

Beyond: What Exactly?

In July, SamMobile reported that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 models are codenamed Beyond -1, Beyond-2 and Beyond -3.  It is not known exactly which attribute they are going to go beyond of. But it is suggested that the Galaxy S10 family would be beefed up in a number of ways. The first of those will be the addition of a new on-screen fingerprint sensor. It would be a first of its kind, with Qualcomm supposedly contracted to supply the parts for the same.

It is also fairly certain that Samsung is going to debut a new facial recognition technology to rival that of the Apple smartphones. A Korean publication – The Bell – reported that Samsung was going to do away with their iris scanner in the Galaxy S10, which was supposed to be a vital component of its Intelligent Facial Scan feature. This is supposed to be done because of Samsung’s proximity to perfecting a 3D facial scanner system. This is going to be much better from Apple’s Facial ID and is going to directly compete with the same.

Other features include Sound Emitting Display, double and triple lens cameras and in-display readers.

Galaxy S10 5G Compatibility: A Reality or Myth

It was widely speculated that the Galaxy S10 flagship is going to debut the 5G technology among the South Korean manufacturer’s smartphones. But, no information regarding this could be derived from the leaked model numbers. A fourth model in the Galaxy S10 family may be released with 5G technology. Samsung could also release a smartphone of the same model number only with affiliation to the 5G technology. Either way, 5G is widely expected to be one of the features that Samsung’s Galaxy S10 will be equipped with.
