Finally it paid off. Google’s proposal to Apache, an offer to hand over Google Wave project to Apache Community, has been accepted. Few weeks back, post to Google decision to halt further development on much appreciated Google Wave Project, Google has routed a proposal to Apache Software Foundation to take the reins on Wave.
However, it was uncertain whether Apache will adopt such project and continue the development. After the confirmation, Apache Software Foundation will seek the volunteers’ support from various renowned organizations to re-trigger the developed work on project under the name of Apache Wave – possibility. At the same time, Google need to make certain changes in order to hand over project to Apache Foundation.
Googler Alex North wrote on the company blog, “We’re spinning up the project infrastructure so that the community can continue to grow in the Apache way.”
In August this year, Google had decided to dump the much appreciated project due to lack of exposure and market visibility. Interestingly, after the launch of Facebook’s communication tool (Facebook Email ), and the exponential positive response of Such service, Google decided to bring back Google Wave but with little different process. Analysts feel that Google Wave & Facebook Email both caters to the next generation communication methodology which is currently under the transformation process.
As Google is going through with some touch challenges from all directions by Facebook, Intel, Nokia & Linux, it would be interesting to see how Wave comes to users and whether people sail over it or go deep inside it.
