After a long roller-coaster ride, finally LG is all set to join much-hyped tablet market. As per the sources, LG can unveil its first ever tablet – LG Optimus Pad – this week at CES. LG has confirmed that company is ready with LG Optimus Pad – 8.9” Honeycomb (Android 3.0) tablet – to display in biggest technology event this week at Las Vegas. There is also speculation that LG can take a forward move and may introduce another 10” tablet in order to take the competition effectively.
Sources from LG Electronics have confirmed that they will unveil a new Android Honeycomb tablet this week in CES. After the success of Optimus One, much appreciated Froyo ( Android 2.2) based smartphone, LG is gearing up to challenge its traditional rival Samsung in the Tablet market. Recently, Samsung has reached the milestone of 1,000,000 unit sale of Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Though, Samsung has already secured the early launch advantage, apparently, LG is trying to cover that leap by intruding latest version of Android OS with mobile phones as well tablets. Compare to Samsung’s 7” Galaxy Tab which is running on Froyo, LG’s tablet has bigger screen with Honeycomb (Android 3.0) OS.
Sensing the upcoming initiative of LG, Samsung has already reduced the price of Galaxy Tab to $500 in order to make the tablet market much more competitive. However, analysts don’t rate such move to a very effective strategy to counter LG’s upcoming strategy. LG had launched Optimus One, an android 2.2 smartphone, at lucrative price tag of $275/- and managed to sell more than 2 Million smartphones in just 40 days. If LG continues the same trend in Tablet market, Samsung will have to re-strategize sales model for Galaxy Tab.
According to LG officials: “While the existing tablet PCs focus on e-book, movie, music and the Internet functions, LG’s new tablet PC is jumping into the market with more diverse contents based on powerful functions.” The folks at LG have also called it “better than the iPad… and surprisingly productive“. The source shells out some more speculation that there will be a 10” version as well, but we’ll believe it when LG announces it, plus it will be interesting to see what does the company mean by “productive”.
LG is also going to show off auto-stereoscopic 3D mobile displays which allow drivers moving at fast pace to watch 3D video enabled billboards.
