Microsoft Office 2010: What’s still missing?

Office 2010 is out in the market, on Microsoft’s volume license price lists and installed (at least in Office Starter form) on many new PCs out there. But there are still a couple of complementary technologies that aren’t available yet. I’m not talking about Office Web Apps, the free version of which is still missing some promised functionality, as Microsoft itself has acknowledged. I’m talking about other related technologies of interest to both consumers and smaller business users.

Finally Apple Admits iPhone 4.0 Glitch

We did not see this coming: after initially dismissing the reports about iPhone 4 antenna reception issue, Apple has officially admitted it exists, promising a software fix in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, the fix may not be good news for users experiencing the problem. Apple claims it has erroneously calculated the formula which displays signal bars on the iPhone, and therefore the iPhone has been showing too many bars in areas with weak signal strength.

Salesforce sues Microsoft

The world's biggest maker of Web-based software charged that Microsoft is infringing five Salesforce patents in programs, including in the Windows Server operating system and the widely used .Net platform. "Microsoft's continuing acts of infringement have caused and are causing irreparable harm to Salesforce.com," the complaint said.

Google Dives into Travel Search with $700 Million Acquisition of ITA

Google has acquired ITA, developer of the airfare search and pricing system QPX that is used by major airlines. The deal is for $700 million in cash and comes after months of rumors about Google buying ITA. Now that it’s a done deal, Google plans to move into the lucrative travel search business and compete with the likes of Bing Travel, Expedia and Kayak.
