Don’t Have iPhone But Love Siri: The Best Alternatives Of Siri [Video]

0

If you are not a Apple fan but like its much-acclaimed voice recognition app, then here are the best alternatives of Siri, probably for your Android phone. iPhone has always been able to astonish and overwhelm its users with its features ever since its inception and even some of its features has been one of a kind which are then copied by other manufacturers. “Siri” has been one of the company’s prized possession that everyone has been trying to mimic with effective alternatives of Siri but in vein as it has taken years for the company to develop and test this product and it would take others much time to develop it from its root. Now, as most of the technology advancement has already been deployed by Apple in till date iPhone versions, God alone knows what innovative features the new iPhone would hold.

Siri is a innovative voice recognition software which is your virtual personal assistant on your iPhone 4S and can be stated as one of the major reasons behind the phones’ impeccable sales in the most recent quarter. Apple even came up with an ad to promote Siri. Ever since its introduction all other OS developers have been trying to come out with its “Own Siri”  – and claims it the best alternatives of Siri. For the matter of fact, Android itself is working on Siri alternative as secret project known as “Majel”. But other than this many third party app developers have developed a Siri replacement for the Android platform, some of them being Iris, Tellme, Skyvi and more.

In spite of all such appreciation, Siri didn’t sail a smooth launch. Many flaws have been found in Siri over the time; saying it consumes lot of data and even sometimes giving an abrupt answer to a question asked. It is also found not to be compatible with many other English accents, which is being worked on now though. Here are a few video’s to make it easier for you to know which among the personal assistants i.e of iOS and Android is better, but these being third party apps it cannot be judged properly till the speculated “Majel” of Android comes out.

If you are fascinated enough toward “Siri” but not a beloved member of Apple family, then you can try any of the above alternative. But remember, don’t forget to backup all your contacts and vital data before you jump into ‘trial-and-error’ mode.

Android Was Considerably Ahead Of Apple’s iOS In Q4 Among First-Time Smartphone Buyers

0

In Q4 last year, Apple was best selling handset brand, sold 37 million Smartphone. In number of shipment, none of Android-based Smartphones were close to iOS-based iPhone in Q4 last year. But, a leading market research company NPD has reportedly stated that Android was real winner in Q4 last year. The research firm stated, in all Smartphone buyers, Android grabbed 48% of the total Smartphone market share, while iOS succeeded to account just 43% of share. Android was considerably ahead of Apple’s iOS among first-time Smartphone buyers in Q4 last year. Android attracted 57% of First-Time Smartphone Buyers, while Apple lured only 34% in Q4 of 2011.

Executive director, connected intelligence for The NPD Group—Ross Rubin—said, “Attracted by a faster processor, improved camera and the Siri speech-driven agent, most iPhone buyers paid a premium for the iphone 4S, making it the top-selling handset in Q4. The iPhone 4S outsold the iPhone 4 by 75%, and outsold the iPhone 3GS, available for free on AT&T, five to one.”

Some of users distracted from Apple’s iPhone due to lack of 4G connectivity, whereas, Android support of LTE at Verizon—exclusively preferred by users in US. A wide range of  Android apps and supporting to carriers’ fastest network gave big advantages for proliferation of Android OS worldwide. In addition to these advantages,  Android was preferred worldwide definitely due to its price, features, and carrier ability especially support of  LTE.

The biggest problem for the Android is its fragmentation, and there isn’t a single mobile OEM brand like Apple that is securing a huge market share. There’s a big competition among Android manufactures itself for the shipment, ironically, the Android features like display are different on different devices—which can be changed according to users’ preference. That’s why Samsung were dominated over LG, HTC and more, despite of all having the same OS.

Undoubtedly, Android and iOS were dominating over whole mobile OS market in Q4 last year—collectively accounted 91% of the total mobile OS market share. The strategy of both Apple and Android are different, Apple offers few Smartphone a year—release a new model each year—whereas, there are number of Android Smartphone in the market with many OEM players.

Apple Sustained Its Supremacy Followed By Samsung In Smartphone Last Year [STUDY]

3

We might frequently speak out without any hesitation that the last year belonged to Smartphone manufacturer–ate the revenue of all other consumers’ electronics products. The shipment of Smartphone soared up enormously—all time higher—last year. And it isn’t going to surprise anyway that only Apple sold 37 million Smartphones in Q4 last year, out of total 157.8 million units’ shipment. A research Analysis firm “IDC” has reportedly stated that the worldwide Smartphone market grew 54.7% year-over-year in Q4 2011. Smartphone shipment broke up all the previous records and reached to 157.8 million units compared to 102.0 million units in same quarter a year ago. The total 491.4 million Smartphones shipped last year, up by 61.3% from 304.7 million units in 2010.

Undoubtedly, Apple dominated in the Smartphone segment in Q4 last year, but, Samsung’s year-over-year change (275%) was incredible. In this contrast, Nokia and RIM was in the decreasing trend—declined by -30.6% and -11.0% year-over-years in Q4 2011. However, HTC managed to show off its growth in the shipment, but its revenue mounted down in Q4 first time since the last two years.

According to IDC recent study, A senior research analyst with IDC’s Mobile Phone Technology and Trend Team—Ramon Llamas—said, “By the end of quarter, one out of every three mobiles shipped worldwide was a Smartphone. The launch of Apple’s iPhone 4S played a key role in Smartphone growth to capture pent-up demand, and Smartphone launches from other vendors also provided a broad selection to meet varying preferences and budgets.”

Apple’s retained its supremacy in Smartphone after launch of its revolutionary iPhone 4S last year. iPhone 4S distracted some users due to lack of 4G connectivity and also, the Smartphone occupied with battery drainage issues. After Apple, Samsung shipped 30 million Smartphone first time in Q4 last year, showed off increment year-over-year. Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S II lured high-end users, while Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Y attracted mass market in Q4 last year.

Nokia, however, managed to grab third notch in Smartphone shipment in Q4 last year, but, its shipment plunged in Q4 of 2011 than a year ago in same quarter. Nokia released its Windows Phone-based Smartphone Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 last year. The smaller volume of Symbian-powered Smartphones is going to be appeared this year due to users’ demand.  For Blackberry, the last year was like a nightmare, the company’s market share declined in consecutive four quarters. HTC launched its Windows Phone-powered Titan and Radar models, in addition to these models; the company also launched its Rezound, LTE-enabled Vivid, and number of Android-powered Smartphones last year.

Definitely, it’s trustworthy to say that Apple’s iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy Nexus were superstar devices last year. But, Apple’s iPhone 4S outstandingly performed in Q4 holiday season last year, and became users most preferred device.

Samsung Galaxy S III Reportedly To Be Launch In May

1

Samsung was recently overtaken by Apple in its Q4 2011 Smartphone sales figure. But the defeat does not brought Samsung’s hopes down as the company had recently announced to reveal its Samsung Galaxy S III in a few months adding one more Smartphone to the Galaxy family. However, it has been reported that company will not launch the beast in MWC event in Barcelona this year, as few others reported earlier.

According to South Korean Electronic News Time, the Smartphone is speculated to have a 7mm thick body, which is 1.5mm thinner than the Galaxy S II. The phone is also speculated to host a 8MP rear camera along with a 2MP front cam which would support for a smooth video calling. It is also said to feature an AMOLED plus HD display, a 2GB RAM and is set to be run on the latest ICS Android platform. Though, It is expected to have a quad-core processor but no speculations about the screen size were made.

The industry seems to be going after a large screen, a powerful processor and an ultrathin look for its Smartphone’s and why won’t they? After all, the one thing that booms a phones sales is the user satisfaction and what more would satisfy a user than having a sexy slim large screen phone with a powerful processor in his hands? Recent success of Galaxy Note is a true example of this and Samsung seems to be overwhelming with the positive market response.

Samsung has done really well the previous year with a total shipment of 324.7 million handsets in the whole year and is sitting in the 2nd position next to Nokia, which is still leading the global handset shipment. The company seems to have braced itself for the war against Apple’s iPhone 5 which is speculated to be released in a few months and might hit the floor around the same time as the Galaxy S III.

Samsung and Apple, with the speculated quad-core processors, will bring the Smartphone experience and industry to a whole new level giving the users the power to perform any task on their Smartphone itself. It is just to be seen if the rumors are true and we will in a few months from now.

Google, Facebook Surrender To Indian Law: Will Abide By The Content Screening Policy

0

Internet giants Google and Facebook removed content from some Indian domain websites on Monday following a court directive warning them of a crackdown “like China” if they did not take steps to protect religious sensibilities. The two are among 21 companies asked to develop a mechanism to block objectional material after a private petitioner took them to court over images deemed offensive to Hindus, Muslim and Christians or and texts that considered anti-social or anti-religious.

A New Delhi court Monday gave Facebook, Google, YouTube and Blogspot and the other sites two weeks to present further plans for policing their networks. Google India did not mention which sites were removed but it is believed that it would be willing to go after anything that violated local law or its own standards.

“There is no question of any censorship,” Communications Minister Sachin Pilot said in Bangalore. “They all have to operate within the laws of the country. … There must be responsible behavior on both sides.”

At the heart of the dispute is a law that India passed last year making companies responsible for user content posted on their web sites, and giving them 36 hours to take down content if there’s a complaint. A lower court in New Delhi told the companies on Monday to put in writing the steps they had taken to block offensive content, and submit reports to the court within 15 days.

Facebook India submitted a compliance report to the court Monday, but it also joined Yahoo and Microsoft in questioning its inclusion in the case, saying no specific complaints had been presented against them.

India is Facebook’s second-fastest growing market, after the U.S. The California-based company, with $3.7 billion in revenues last year, has seen its hoped-for launch in China held back by rules requiring censorship of material seen by the Chinese government as objectionable or obscene.

Fewer than one in 10 of India’s 1.2 billion population has access to the Internet, but that still makes it the second biggest country after the United States. The number of Internet users in India is expected to almost triple to 300 million over the next three years.

Despite the new rules to block offensive content, India’s Internet access is still largely uncensored, in contrast to the tight controls in neighboring China.

While civil rights groups have opposed the new laws, politicians say posting offensive images in a socially conservative country like India, which has a history of violence between religious groups, indicates danger to the public.

More than 54% Kindle Fire’s users told to research analysis firm that they were “very satisfied” with their device, while 38% told, they were “somewhat satisfied” with their Tablet. HTC To Roll Out Its Four Smartphones Models At MWC On 26 February

0

HTC’s revenue declined by 11.6% in Q4 than Q3 last year, it was first decline of the company since last two years. The company is now very serious about its market possession and product lineups. HTC has decided to roll out its four latest models—is expected to have ultra-slim design and quad- core chip—at MWC, Barcelona later this month. The company wants to standout the devices against its rivals like Apple and Samsung.

The high demand of Apple’s iPhone and Samsung Galaxy lineups squashed HTC Smartphone shipment in Q4 last year. Apple most applauded iPhone 4S had integrated innovative Siri—voice recognition app—explode the market in the Q4 especially in holiday season. Meanwhile, Samsung created high-end designed model, availed at the nominal price. Beside this, Samsung also emphasized on its marketing and retail networks to promote its products. On contrary, HTC  dropped at fifth notch in Q4 last year due to lack of new design–caused prolixity among users’ to own HTC Smartphone.

However, the Taiwanese company’s share grew up in 2010 and early 2011, the share of the company grew to three-fold in 14 months to April 2011, whereas, its sales grew four-fold in 1 years. The company is not likely to announce its first quarter shipment in MWC due to its lackluster demand of its old models, and its new models are expected to be come in late Q1. Recently, BNP has predicted HTC might retain its momentum in the Q1, and more than 30% of its sale growth in the first half of the year.

IDC analyst—Chau—said, “HTC has found it hard to differentiate itself as more players have entered the Android market. The software, and increasingly the hardware, have become commoditized, forcing HTC to hunt for new ways to stand out. They have been differentiating by their user interface, and that worked at the beginning. But do users now buy a phone based on that?” “It’s going to be hard, but Android has a lot of steam behind it. Samsung leads because it’s marketing hard but that doesn’t mean that HTC can’t reach some demographics,”

HTC has ambitious plan ahead, the company is focusing on its smartphones features, HTC Ville will have feature a 4.3-inch AMOLED display and 8 MP camera, and will run on Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Other models would reportedly have high-end design, and quad-core CPU. The company has now a room to launch its product because there’s no any information of Apple and Samsung’s new launch.

The challenges of the company is not yet end, the slower growth in the developed market and wider distribution of Apple’s iPhone 4S worldwide will provide stiff resistance to users to buy new Smartphone. In spite of this, there’s no such huge technical gap with the others manufacturer in Android camp, so that, the users will be swayed by new HTC lineups. A recent analyst poll has predicted, the total revenue of HTC is likely to be $3.04 billion in this quarter, down from $3.43 billion in Q4 last year. However, HTC has recover some of its fiscal loss in the beginning of this year, the company’s share have climbed 15% since the beginning of this year.

Tim’s Decision To Appoint John Browett As New VP Is Rational ?

0

Apple is very aggressive about its retail stores in this time, and that’s why the company is trying number of maneuver for its proliferation. Last week on Tuesday, the company announced that John Browett is going to be a new senior VP of the company’s retail. It seems that John is appropriate for filling the Ron Johnson’s place—helped Steve to design the company’s first ever Apple Store in 2000. John left the company in June 2011 to show the way J.C. Penny as CEO. John did MBA at the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania, and worked for a short stint as a management consultant prior to join the UK’s largest retailer Tesco in 1998. John took the responsibility of Dixon retail in 2007, and played crucial role to repair the slapdash customer service.

Recently, one Apple’ fan—a photographer by profession Tony Hart—wrote an email to the company’s CEO—Tim Cook—explaining his concern with new hire.

Tony wrote, “Now, I don’t know John or his career in the least, but as a UK consumer I am familiar with Dixons and the DSG group that owns them and other similar stores. They have a spectacularly bad reputation and are considered to be one of the worst retailers in the UK in any market. It would be a post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy to say that John’s reputation is the same as Dixons, but as a long-time Apple supporter and a user who wants to see the best for the company, I wanted to voice my concerns on reading this news.”

As many folks foresee that John will hopefully do a superb job for the company. But the majority of folks are also fanatic about the company’s brand; it should be like Apple but not like Dixons. In defense of own offbeat decision, Tim wrote an email back to Tom, convincing him that John was the best among all eligible candidates so far he had seen. Tim also said that he is poised to move the company at the zenith in the customer services and satisfaction.

I think none has any doubt about Tim’s talent—brought the company at a highest level ever after sad demise of Steve in Oct 2011. Tim sustained his responsibility with customer concern, before Steve’s demise, he had regularly been answering clients’ queries. Undoubtedly, Tim’s decision will definitely benefit the company and expecting it might true.

Apple has full faith on 48-year-old John due to his keen financial and customer service savvy, and most suitable for sustaining the company’s brand. Unlike Steve, John hates to manage the company’s financial and customers’ services through the boardroom.

Recently, in Q4 (calendar) last year, Apple’s retail store had contributed $6.1 billion revenue—had broken all of its previous records. At present, the company has 358 retail stores and 130,000 sales points worldwide. Whatever be the subterfuge, Tim’s decision is only fruitful when John’s contribution will give a new height to the company.

Social Media And Email: The Most Effective Marketing Channels In India [STUDY]

0

First let’s talk about what social media is. Social media represents certain tools that are used to combine technology and social interaction with the use of words. These tools are typically internet or mobile based – A few that you have probably heard of include Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube.

And now let’s know the role of Social media to the marketers. Social media gives marketers a voice and a way to communicate with peers, customers and potential consumers. Social media marketing is also an engagement with online communities to generate exposure, opportunity and sales. It seems that many marketers see the social media frontier as the next marketing gold rush. It personalize the “brand” and helps you to spread your message in a relaxed and conversational way

With the Limit of SMS, promotions have more marketers in India using email and social media to reach customers. According to Octane Research report of January 2012 “Gearing Up For Growth: India e-Marketers Outlook 2012”, marketers n India expect to increase the use of social media and email to reach their customers in 2012. Almost 69% of marketers said they planned to adopt social media marketing in the coming year, and 53.1% plan to invest in email marketing. 46% of marketers also plan to pay more attention to developing company websites.

Interestingly, its not only social media that is registering astounding growth in India. With the revolution in social media, many supporting channels like Email, Websites etc are also trending in Indian market. However, social media is leading among all and this trend will be continued in 2012. Social media has taken a lead with significant margin with all its possible closest competitors. In India, Email marketing is going ot be the only one that could be count anywhere close to social media for various promotional channels in India.

The biggest surprise comes with interactive form of promotional channels. Ins spite of improved infrastructure and high-speed internet connectivity, marketers seems to be losing faith in Video and Webcasts. These promotional channels are the only ones expected to witness decline in 2012.

If you think that social media is only for the small business owners that are trying out an experiment, I have to correct you. Online Social Networking is a rapidly growing cultural phenomenon. Around 2010 and 2011, social networking websites have sparked tons of media stories and blog posts — including lots of buzz within these social networking websites themselves about social networking.

Many marketers are shifting strategies, as a recent Telecom Regulatory Authority of India ruling limits the number of promotional SMS messages marketers can send per day. It is estimated that internet penetration in India will remain in the single digits, but marketers are steadily increasing their attention to digital media as online usage grows. Even with low penetration, 103.6 million people will go online in 2012, and the number of users is expected to more than double to 221.6 million by 2015.

7

Social media titan Facebook is going through rough patches, as complains towards operational and functionality are on rise. Few weeks back it was announced that soon Timeline will become mandatory for all users followed by the introduction of 60 open graph applications to strengthen the significance of it. Though, Timeline was announced in F8 developers meet, but for introduced after two months as an optional Facebook upgrade.

Interestingly, many of the users have still not switched over to Timeline till date, but in coming days they all will be upgraded automatically by Facebook.

Taking the view of the announcement made by Facebook about Timeline as mandatory, an Infographic has been released by SodaHead which enlightens public opinion towards Facebook Timeline.

Surprisingly, it exposes that near about 70 percent of the users don’t like the new Timeline compare to mere 20 percent who have voted in favor of Timeline. Infographic also reveals that 30 percent users in the age group of 18-24 like the Timeline most, while only 10 percent users in the age group of 65+ likes Timeline.

Online Advertisement In U.S. To Reach $62 Billion By 2016 [STUDY]

1

Online Advertisement plays major role in shaping the brand values, revenue as well as profit for companies. Quite convinced with the fact, companies are also spending billions of dollars on the advertisement arm every year and its going to increase further more in coming years. Taking the view of online advertisement spending, a study was conducted which highlights that by the end of 2012 online advertisement spending will reach $40 billion U.S. and is expected to grow to $62 billion by 2016.

Online Advertisement is mainly classified into three formats namely search, banners and video. As the industry is witnessing great shift across the globe and infrastructure is improving, all the three will be responsible for 80% of online advertisement revenue by 2016.

Search based advertising will maintain its legacy as the leader with around 46.9 percent by 2016 followed by banners’ 20.5 percent contribution. However, it is expected to shift down its share by 2.5% in 2016 compare to 2012.

Surprisingly, online advertising through video will emerge as most attractive channel as its spending share will surge year-over-year to reach 15 percent by 2016.

Study reveals that advertising expenditure will increase exponentially year-over-year and is expected to touch $62 billion by 2016 – rise of $22 billion compared to $40 billion in 2012.

Interestingly, Despite of having highest advertisement share, Video format will see sharp decline by 2016. But 2012 is going to be the most effective year for video as it will touch the highest growth ever in the said year. From 42.1% in 2011 to 54.7% in 2012 and then decline towards 18.1% only in 2016 speaks about video format rise and fall in next few years. This will be mainly due to the upcoming U.S.presidential election and Olympic Games 2012.

Though, the contribution of email advertisement channel will be quite low by 2016, but it is expected to be the only channel that will record positive year-on-year growth. In next five years, Email advertisement trend will move up from negative value to 3.8% growth in 2016

Online advertisement is continuously dominating over traditional advertising for last half a decade. It has emerged as one of the cheapest but the most effective modes of advertisements. It is a multi-way process compared to direct marketing which is generally confined into traditional style of promotions. Considering the success achieved by companies from online advertisement, many other old styled marketers are showing their interest in online advertisement and burning fresh blood of cash into it which will be the prime reason behind such astounding growth.

I feel online advertisements help users as well as companies to know the feedback about their products in short span of time. Apparently, advertising on social networking sites has been increased in an enormous rate as social media is a place where an advertiser can make their product available to more than billion of the users in short time period.

Gmail Man Reappears: Microsoft Officially Releases Video Against Google

1

A tug of war has been going on for a week now between Microsoft and Google about the new privacy policy of Google. The new mandatory privacy policy will merge all policies that currently exist across 60 of companies numerous web products/services.

Earlier, Microsoft had published a full page ad promoting its services while showing the drawback in the Google’s new policy saying that the new policy is harder for the users to maintain control of their personal information. But, the the show doesn’t end there as Microsoft is trying to promote its own services by throwing light on Google’s other loop holes too. Now, Microsoft has posted a video on the company’s official YouTube, Twitter and Facebook page captioned as “Gmail Man”. Though, the video was released few months ago but Microsoft has officially put it against Google only now.

The video has a catchy tune to it with a man delivering the mails while going through it. The video depicts that Google goes through all our mails that we send and receive for keywords and hosts the appropriate ad on our page with it. While some of the users are least bothered if Google really does it or not others are really concerned about the company going through their private data just to mint more revenue out of it.

Microsoft is trying to build insecurity in the people’s mind by this video and pull people who are more concerned about their mail privacy, towards its Office 365 service. Google had responded to the Microsoft’s previous newspaper ad earlier this week, will it respond to this video as well??

Recently, Asymco has calculated the profit and revenue share of top 8 mobile makers and also counted its total shipments in Q4 last year. After calculation, it has found that Apple was the biggest gainer in the Smartphone battle in Q4 last year. Despite of Android popularity, Apple managed to make 75% profit share of combined profit share of top eight companies that includes Nokia, SE, HTC, Samsung, RIM,LG, Motorola and Apple itself. Doing the similar calculation study reveals that Apple contributed 39% of combined smartphone revenue (of top 8 mobile majors) in Q4 of 2011. Samsung – consider Android-based devices only–emerged as the only company that managed to compete with Apple. However, the the efforts didn’t pay well as there was a sharp profit share gap between them in Q4 last year.

Jointly Apple and Samsung accounted 91% of the total profit share and 64% of total revenue share in Q4 last year. Apple dominated the mobile segment in profit as well as revenue in Q4 last year followed by Samsung. The world’s largest handset manufacturer—Nokia—had managed to assert Samsung and Apple in terms of revenue and hold the third notch in total revenue share. Despite of a huge market shares’ loss after three days outage in Oct last year, RIM accounted 3.7% of the total profit share in Q4 and grabbed 3rd rank.

Apple’s momentum was really significant in the last year. The company had generated 19% more revenue, and also augmented 20% of more profit in Q4 than Q1 in 2011.

The last year was definitely the year for Apple, and the company outstandingly dominated over its rival. However, the proliferation of cheap Android OS had affected the total shipment of Apple’s Smartphone, but company managed its shipment in the holidays’ season. Apple’s iPhone 4S was most preferred Smartphone in the Christmas day alone.
