The share of India’s smartphone shipments through online channels reached 43% in Q2 2020, mainly due to Covid-19 lockdown which altered consumers’ purchase decisions. Indians are now preferring contact-less shopping experience. However, the total online channel shipments declined a notable 46% YoY during the quarter.

It is important to note that the smartphone shipments through online channels in India reached their highest ever share of 46% during Q3 2019.

Amazon emerged as India’s top online smartphone channel for the first time in Q2 2020, with the highest-ever share of 47%. Xiaomi and Samsung were the best-selling smartphone brands on Amazon India.

Stands at second, Flipkart share in India’s online smartphone market declined from 58% in Q2 2019 to 42% in Q2 2020. Interestingly, Realme, Xiaomi, Samsung, and Poco were the best-selling brands on Flipkart, accounting for more than three-fourth of its total smartphone shipments.

The share of Mi in India’s online smartphone channels declined from 12% in Q2 2019 to 10% in Q2 2020. However, within smartphone brands, Xiaomi retained the top spot, with 44% share in the online smartphone market in India in Q2 2020. The growth was primarily driven by the strong performance of Redmi 8A Dual, Note 8 series and Redmi 8.
