Xiaomi continues to dominate the India smartphone market in Q1 2020, with total 10.1 million units shipped. The Chinese player recorded a modest 3.4% YoY growth in its smartphone shipments. The growth was primarily driven by the Redmi Note 8/8/Note 8 Pro/8A series. However, on a quarterly basis, Xiaomi smartphone shipments in India declined a notable 5.6% from Q4 2019 when 10.7 million units were shipped.

Vivo smartphone shipments in India increased a whopping 63.3% YoY in Q1 2020, to 6.8 million units. The continued focus on its offline channel, despite the exclusive line-up in online channel and presence across price segments, helped Vivo emerged as the second-largest smartphone brand in India.

The biggest surprise comes from Samsung which was the only vendor amongst the top five to fall, dropping 28.4% YoY in Q1 2020. The Korean giant shipped only 5.1 million units of smartphones during the first quarter. The refreshed Galaxy As (Galaxy A10s, A50s etc.) series led to this sharp decline.

Realme overtook Oppo to become the fourth largest smartphone player in India, with 4.3 million units shipped in Q1 2020. The company reported a massive 119.4% YoY growth in its smartphone shipments during March quarter. Realme 5i, 5s, C2/C3,6 were the top selling models during the quarter, accounting for more than 70% of shipments.

In the first quarter of 2020 Oppo slipped to the 5th position in the India smartphone market. The company recorded a strong 41.0 YoY growth in its smartphones shipments, with 3.4 million units. Thanks to its affordable A series which accounted for a majority of its shipments.
