Twitter Ad Revenue Growth by Quarter: Q1’12 – Q2’21

The below graph represents the QoQ and YoY growth/decline in Twitter's advertising revenue growth by quarter. Surprisingly, in Q2 2020, the microblogging platform reported a huge 23% YoY and 18% QoQ decline in its ad revenue in Q2 2020, clocking $561.99 million. In Q4 2019, Twitter's ad revenue reached an all-time high.

As the graph shows, since Q1 2012, Twitter has been generating over 80% of its total revenue from the advertising business, in every quarter.

In Q1 2013, Twitter advertising revenue crossed the $100 million mark for the first time, with a whopping 125.8% YoY and 1.01% QoQ growth. In less than three years, the company achieved another revenue milestone; the total ad revenue of Twitter surpassed the $500-million mark for the first time in Q3 2015, representing year-over-year growth of 60% and quarter-over-quarter growth of 13%.

As the graph shows, on a yearly basis, Twitter ad revenue growth was hovering above 100% between Q1 2012 and Q3 2014. After that, it has started slowing down.

Twitter ad revenue increased from just $13.6 million in Q2 2011 to a whopping $56.8 million in Q2 2012 – representing the highest-ever 317.08% year-over-over growth in its ad revenue.
