LinkedIn Top Companies In India 2019: Professionals Prefer Startups Over Titans

Must Read

LinkedIn has recently released the list of 25 top companies Indian professionals prefer most to work and stick around once they’re in. The list of top companies people prefer in India 2019 is compiled on four parameters: interest in the company, engagement with employees, job demand and employee retention. It is important to note that to Linkedin has excluded itself and its parent company, Microsoft from the list to stay unbiased. Interestingly, out of the top 25 companies in India, 7 are startups.

Here are the top 10 companies in India where professionals want to work for in 2019:

  1. Flipkart (Owned by Walmart now)
  2. Amazon India
  3. OYO Hospitality
  4. One 97 Communications (Parent of Paytm and Paytm Money)
  5. Uber
  6. Swiggy
  7. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)
  8. Zomato
  9. Alphabet (Parent company of Google, YouTube, and others)
  10. Reliance Industries Limited (The holding company of Reliance Retail Ventures and Reliance Jio, among others)

LinkedIn Top Companies In India 2019

By comparing this year’s list with the last year, one thing becomes immediately – professionals are preferring startups over titans in India. The rise of startups and the fall of tech titans in the list clearly indicate that large corporates are no more the preferred choice of professionals. The rise of Flipkart, OYO, Zomato, Uber, Swiggy, Ola and the fall of Alphabet (Google), Adobe, McKinsey, EY, KPMG, PWC, Shell are the testimony to shift.

Flipkart has emerged as the most preferred company to work for in 2019, up one position from the last year. After Walmart acquired Flipkart for $16 billion last year, many employees who joined India’s largest e-commerce player in early stage became a millionaire. The deal increased the valuation of the pool of employees stock options (ESOPs) of Flipkart to over $1.5 billion. Probably that’s the reason many jobseekers in India now want to join Flipkart.

Amazon has gone two positions up in the ladder to become the second most preferred company in India this year. Amazon leapfrogged One97 which was the 3rd most preferred company last year but has slipped to the fourth position due to the emergence of Amazon and OYO. Amazon India is apparently on the hiring spree as it has listed the maximum number of opening, 1,950, on LinkedIn. The company already has over 50,000 employees in India now.

The rise of OYO in just a year is not less than a surprise. In the last one year, OYO has improved its ranking from 10th position to 3rd position. The company has currently over 7,000 employees and has set its eyes beyond hospitality.

However, the biggest surprise of LinkedIn’s top companies to work in India 2019 is the fall of Directi– the company that topped the list last year, ahead of all the tech behemoth in India. This year Directi failed to secure any position in the list. Such not-so-common change in the position has questioned the credibility of the list.

Recently a study by the Fairwork project revealed the list of top 10 best-known startups in India that offer best and worst working conditions for their workers. Interestingly, once again it was Flipkart that topped the list with 7/10 score. The list was based on fair work, fair conditions, fair contracts, fair management, and fair representation. Besides, it was also considered whether the minimum wages are paid to employees and the company has taken measures to ensure the health and safety of its workers.
