Since last two years, the San Francisco-based social company has been focusing on improving the quality of its platform by removing thousands of spam and suspicious accounts.
It is important to note that Twitter MAUs – apart from few ups and downs – have remained steady and above the 300-million mark between Q1 2015 and Q1 2019.
It was the first time in Q1 2015 when the number of Twitter monthly active users worldwide reached over 300 million mark. Nearly 47 million new users were added to the platform between Q1 2014 and Q1 2015.
Surprisingly, after that, the QoQ and YoY growth in the number of Twitter MAUs started slowing down. The company took exactly 3 years to add 34 million new users to its platform. In Q1 2018, the number of monthly active Twitter users reached an all-time high of 336 million, globally. Only 9 million new users were added in the span of one year.
Twitter suspended more than 70 million accounts in the month of May and June 2018, resulting in 326 million MAUs in Q3 2018, from 335 million in Q2 2018.
Interestingly, in Q3 2011, Twitter achieved its first global 100 million MAUs milestone. Then in Q1 2013, the microblogging network surpassed the 200 million MAUs worldwide.
