OnePlus Eyeing A Chunk Of iPhone Market Through The Updated Switch

Must Read

Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has been strengthening its presence for the past few years. Once again, with the launch of OnePlus 6T, it has taken the premium smartphone segment by storm in many countries. In India, OnePlus holds the lion’s share of the premium smartphone segment, beating the likes of Apple and Samsung to the spot. And now, it is eyeing a chunk of the market share of Apple with its OnePlus Switch app.

What Is the OnePlus Switch?

The OnePlus Switch is an app which is used to transfer data between two phones while changing the phones. Essentially, it is the data transfer tool during migration. However, the app did not support the data transfer from iOS devices, until NOW. Now, with the tightening grip that the Chinese OEM is having on the premium smartphone segment, it would be easier for people to transfer data from their iPhones to OnePlus devices.

The timing makes sense too. The latest variant in their line of smartphones, the One Plus 6T was launched recently. Now, just like the craze surrounding Apple’s new devices, the One Plus has managed to create an anticipatory demand for its upcoming models as well. Hence, the people who would be buying the One Plus 6T to replace their iOS device are in for a treat!

Is It Really Required?

The One Plus has managed to grab the majority stake in the premium smartphone segment in countries like India. However, it is yet to challenge at the top with the likes of Apple in the European countries. Beating the dominance of Apple isn’t an easy task to do. Hence, this represents the baby steps that the company is taking to address its competition globally.

However, in India, things couldn’t have been any better. The One Plus holds a market share of 30% in the premium smartphone segment in the country. The One Plus 6T offers a great performance in addition to high-end specifications at a much cheaper price. In fact, the One Plus 6T costs almost half that of the iPhone XR in India. Moreover, the userbase of iPhones in the country is expected to experience a decline of 10% to 9 million users, this year. The figure pales in comparison to the 436 million Android users. It clearly indicates that if people are getting off the Apple bandwagon, a sizeable chunk of those must be onboarding OnePlus.

Hence, the OnePlus Switch app might really come in handy to those who are jumping off the Apple ship.

Apple’s Declining Hold in India

With the rise of One Plus, Apple has started losing its grip on the India Smartphone market. The additional import duties implied on iPhone take the already exhaustive price of iPhone even higher. Consequently, people no longer buy the newest iPhones off the line. Hence, people try finding joy in the cheaper alternatives to it in the market. Even the people who do buy an Apple in India tend to resort to the older versions, plainly because they’re cheaper.

With companies like Samsung experiencing a decline in sales in the mobile department, it seems like the old guard are finding it really hard to keep up with the new blood who are competing for their fair share. Most of these companies have stayed in power for too long to adapt when it is required. It is but an eventuality that the most adaptive companies will be the ones dominating the market.
