As September draws closer, the excitement towards iPhone is reaching its peak. This is the time known for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) introducing the new range of iPhones every year. By now we already have a lot of information regarding the successor of iPhone 8 and iPhone X, but a lot still remains unknown.
It was with iPhone X only that Apple undertook a major design change and introduces Edge to Edge bezel-less display. Rumours mills have been claiming, so far, that the upcoming iPhones are expected to follow the suit and come with the edge-to-edge display. However, it seems there is going to be an exception.
According to the latest information, Apple is gearing to launch iPhone 9 which will sport a slightly thicker bezel.
In order to make the upcoming iPhone 9 more affordable, Apple is fitting it with an LCD panel, rather than the more expensive OLED panels in other two iPhones (6.4-inch and 5.8-inch). A company, Nichia, has managed to move from 0.4t LEDs to 0.3t LEDs for backlighting, thus enabling the LCD display equipped iPhone 9 to have a 2 – 2.5 mm bezel. This enables the smartphone to provide an edge to edge display feel with LCD display. Due to this reason, Apple has decided to work with Nichia for its upcoming line of iPhones.
To understand exactly how thick the bezel could be, here is an image of the screen protector meant for the upcoming iPhones. It doesn’t exactly scream thick bezel and gives the feel of edge to edge display which is pretty good in itself.
We are aware for a long time that Apple is going to launch three new iPhones this September. Two out of the three upcoming models of iPhones would be an upgraded version of the iPhone X, while the third one could be an affordable version of the iPhone X with a few missing features. This affordable iPhone will be priced at $699-$799. However, that starting price of the other two iPhones is expected to be around $899.
It’s expected that a sizable share of revenue would come from the sales of this budget iPhone. Industry experts believe that the affordable iPhone will be a major hit among the customers as it will give them an experience of the iPhone X at the price of iPhone 8. That being said the iPhone X (s) and iPhone X (s) Plus are expected to be more of a refined version of the iPhone X rather than being its upgrade. The affordable iPhone 9, however, may come at the cost of some features, such as 3D Touch.
Bezel-less Display: People Love It
Samsung was the first to incorporate bezel-less display in its smartphones. Apple followed suit with its last years iPhone X.
Apart from being aesthetically pleasing bezel-less display serve one more purpose; By reducing the size of the bezel, smartphone makers are able to increase the screen size. For example, iPhone X is just a little bigger than the iPhone 8 but the screen size of the former is significantly bigger than the latter. Smartphone users are also getting fascinated to devices sporting bezel-less display as it allows them to have a bigger screen to work without carrying a bulky and big display smartphone. Consequently, more OEMs are working on smartphone models sporting bezel-less display.
