Online video site YouTube recently hit an impressive milestone, announcing that it now averages over one billion monthly users. This Google-owned site has been one of the top places for people to watch content online since its launch about eight years ago. And till now its popularity still continuing to grow steadily. This site is also said to be the third-most used social channel and it is the leading channel amongst all other video streaming websites.
Also, consumers mostly use this site when it comes to online sites and services. 80% of consumers reported that they use this site the most when they are planning to make a purchase of any product, compared to other social sites like Facebook, Google+ and Twitter.
Its also said that companies are planning to increase video budgets in this year – as much as 30% as it is the powerful way for conveying the messages to the consumers.
Interestingly, YouTube’s growth arc in India matches the global trend. Recently, Google revealed that, more than 70% of the site viewers in India are under the age of 35, while 72% have a college degree or higher.
A study by AYTM Market Research examines this site to know how popular is YouTube and to what degree users consume YouTube content. The survey included 400 respondents in the U.S..
The survey observed that 58% of respondents said that they currently have an account on this site. Just 4% said that they have had one in the past but don’t use it anymore. And 38% said they have never signed up to use this video site.
Overall, 22% of respondents said that they visit this online video site every day. Another 28% said they visit a few times per week. 10% said they visit the site about once per week. 15% said they visit a few times per month. Just 4% said they visit about once per month. 14% said they rarely visit it. And just 9% of respondents said that they never visit YouTube.
The site’s popularity growing, 30% of respondents said they visit the site more often now than they did a year ago. And just 17% said they visit it less often. 53% said they visit the same amount as they did a year ago.
Just 8% of overall respondents said that they watch videos on sites other than YouTube every day. 19% said they watch other online videos a few times per week. while, 6% said they do so about once per week. 16% do so a few times per month. 4% said they do so about once per month. 37% said they rarely watch videos on sites other than YouTube. And 11% said they never watch videos on other sites.
On the other hand, The study showed that the vast majority (about 60%) of the U.S. internet users visited this site at least once a week. Also, 22% visited it every day, and nearly 30% visited YouTube a few times per week.
