One side, where the demand of smartphone and Tablet are continuously augmenting, on other side, users seem little anorexigenic to own desktop especially in the matured markets. According to NetMarketShare, iOS is dominated over other mobile OSes (Mobile + Tablet) in terms of market share. However, Android succeeded to grab 22% global mobile OS market share till the end of September 2012. Other mobile OSes including Windows Phone, BlackBerry and Symbian are still struggling to make their presence in the market.

Interestingly, iOS market share reached to peak (65.94%) in August 2012, thereafter, it declined to 63.48% in September of this year. However, we could expect increment in October and holiday seasons of this year due to increasing demand of iPhone 5 worldwide. On the other hand, Android continues to gaining the market share, improved its market share 1.17%  in September compare to the previous month.

Undoubtedly, iPad is one of the most impressive products of Apple that succeeded to hold 58% of its total market share in September 2012, followed by iPhone and iPod with 40% and 2% respectively. Despite, iPhone is considered as the most valuable product for the company accounting 46% of its total revenue.

Adoption of Android ICS version is continuously increasing day-by-day; It succeeded to manage 29% of Android’s total market share till the end of September this year, while the market share of Android 2.3 version (Gingerbread) dropped from 56.62% in July 2012 to 49.48% in September this year.

Desktop OS Market Share:

By the end of September 2012, Microsoft’s Windows OS unilaterally dominated with 92% market share over other OSes. Mac and Linux were struggling with 7% and 1% market share respectively.

In September, Windows 7 was leading with 48% of total Windows market share, followed by Windows XP with 45% market share. Windows Vista, one of the failure products of Microsoft, had just 7% market share till the end of September 2012.

More importantly, Apple’s fanatics are quite interested in the company every new updates. This is the main reason why 22% of Mac users updated their devices to Mac OS X 10.8 version. Both Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.6 versions had same market share (33%) in September 2012.

Overall, it’s pretty clear that Windows and iOS are dominating in terms of desktop and mobile OS market share respectively. Microsoft’s latest Windows 8 version is on the way to arrive in the market, while Apple iOS 6 is already available. However, it’s considered that Apple fans are not as much satisfied with iOS 6 as they are with its previous version (iOS 5).
