India Is More Committed Towards Android Than Other Mobile OS [Study]

Must Read

Previously, I have discussed why developers are more likely to work on iOS platform compare to Android. In the context of India, it’s somewhat different than the other parts of the world. In India, Android Phones have outburst the market and businesses are more willing to use Android apps for their purposes. Recently, an analysis portal–AndroidOS.in–has reportedly elaborated the popularity of Android apps in Banking, retailing, entertainment and News sectors in India.

Astoundingly, in India, the penetration of Android is quite high compare to other OSs such as Windows Phone and iOS. However, Indian Utility Service Providers prefer somewhat more to BlackBerry than iOS and Windows Phone. On the contrary, matrimonial sites seem little precautious towards the use of Android apps.

Top rated English news channels in India such as NDTV, CNN-IBN, CNN and BBC have availed their apps in Google Play, which are easily being accessed by Indian folks. In terms of apps access, mainstream newspapers including Times of India, Indian Express and Hindustan Times have availed their apps on Google Play, which are often being used by folks across the country. The scenario of apps use is substantially changing in India day-by-day.

According to analysis firm, Android apps are more fairly being used by Indian users compare to iOS, however,  14 out of 25 newspapers and news websites are having iOS apps, while the number of Windows Phone and BlackBerry apps are comparatively low.

The national/vernacular television channels such as Aaj Tak and India News are presently ignoring to all platforms except Android. As compare to news channels and Newspapers, the presence of  E-commerce companies are quite low on the Smartphone apps in India. In this sector, Android has higher presence than iOS and Windows phone.

Presently, Google play is offering a wide range of apps options to users in order to have better entertainment experiences. There are numbers of apps in the market through which users can book tickets and more on the internet. BookMyShow is providing privileges to users to book the tickets of their favorite movies, concerts, play etc. Likewise, users can use apps, which are individually being provided by multiplexes owners such PVR Cinema and INOX, for booking the tickets of their favorite cinemas. In addition to these, in India, users can listen and download latest musics, comprehensive reviews of restaurants, and play games on Saavn app, and Zpak Mobile respectively, while they can also watch latest cricket scores on CricketNext Live and ESPN Cricinfo.

Apps of almost all popular banks of India are currently available in Google Play. A vast numbers of users are more willing to use these apps (avail by banking sector on Google Play) to pay their bills or transfer the money using their Smartphone rather than to present physically into the banks premises.  Some banks including State Bank of India, Citibank and Standard Chartered have already launched its apps on Google Play for their customers.

In terms of apps, the inclination of MNCs are somewhat different than the others. They have equally focused on both these platforms (iOS and Android), besides , they are also focusing on BlackBerry platform to cater the businesses. The firm has also revealed that Windows Phone platform has apparently been ignored by the Banking as well as the Financial sectors.

Anyway, the report has clearly illustrated how Android is dominating over apps segment in India. Undoubtedly, Android has become a top choice for Indian businesses and apps developers across the country due to easiest access from Google Play. The greater penetration of cheaper Android Smartphones in the subcontinent has orchestrated the demand of apps.
