One side where Apple claims that there are more than 25 billion apps have been downloaded and its “Apple App Store” is currently possessing over 550,000 apps, while on the other side, Nokia claims that there are over 13 million apps are being downloaded every day from its “Nokia Store” – previously known as Ovi Store. Nokia Store now has more than 100,000 apps and 100 million registered customers. The company has gathered the figure across Nokia’s 40 feature phones and Symbian Smartphones.

It’s astounding to me that Nokia has recently decided to abandon the Symbian platform. However, the company adopted the Windows Phone platform to manufacture next-generation smartphones at the beginning of last year when Stephen Elop became the new CEO. In some emerging markets such as India where Nokia is dominating all mobile handset manufacturers. Folks in India are still more relying to work on Nokia’s Symbian platform rather than Windows Phones last year. It’s quite known that the company sold more Symbian-based smartphones than Windows Phones. In India, 31% of the market was dominated by Nokia last year, followed by Samsung and Micromax with 15% and 5%, respectively.

Recently, the company has been facing challenges from other cheap Smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, HTC and LG. The demand for Android-based smartphones is continuously augmenting at a dizzying pace quarter-over-quarter.

Nokia wants to be continued with Microsoft’s Windows Phone and that’s why the company has decided to introduce its own Tablet later this year. Both Nokia and Microsoft have great expectations from Windows 8 OS. However, one million Windows 8 consumers’ preview were downloaded across the world within 24 hrs after announcing at MWC last month.

A recent report has stated that Windows Phone has succeeded to grows its market share in some the countries like the UK, Italy, Germany, and more. In the UK, the market share of Windows Phone grew to 2.5% in the last month, up from 0.5% in the same month a year before.

It’s nice to hear that Nokia Store app downloads exceeded 13 million every day. However, the company has not yet conferred the stats of app downloads from its Windows Phone-based Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 smartphones.
