Must Read

Android was at the top in mobile OS in Q3 (calendar) last year with 47% market share, followed by Apple with 43%. But the situation changed in Q4 last year, Apple’s iOS dominated in mobile OS, up by 17% from 26% in Q3. In contrast, Android OS declined by 13% from 60% in Q3 2011, whereas, Microsoft and RIM were struggled to regain its market share in Q4 last year. A recent study states that during Oct/Nov 2011, the demand of Apple’s Smartphone was extremely high, and iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, and iPhone 3GS were at first, second, and third position respectively.

Samsung was only the Android device manufacturer managed to contend Apple’s iPhone in Q4 last year, in US. Apple led the Smartphone market in the Q4 after advent of its revolutionary iPhone in October 2011. In Q4 last year, the largest carrier Verizon sold 7.7 million iPhones, whereas, second largest carrier of US—AT&T—sold 7.6 million iPhones. Apple’s iPhone was followed by Samsung in Smartphone war in Q4 last year in US.

Recently, Apple announced that it has sold 37 million iPhone globally in Q4 (calendar). Apple has eroded the dozens of devices using Google’s Android operating system in the global market. Everyone accepts that the last Christmas for definitely for Apple, swiped Smartphone manufacturer of different platform including Windows Phones, and Blackberry OS.

Samsung was successful in Q4 last year due to its Galaxy line of Smartphone; however, it’s true that the company is largest supplier of Apple’s component.

Apple and Samsung together sold more than 70 million Smartphone in Q4 last year. Other players like Motorola mobility, HTC, and LG electronics struggled to attract the users. Nokia introduced its Lumia model last year, and the company has reportedly sold 1 million units in Q4.

Global consumer insight director at the research firm—Sunnebo—said, “Apple has continued its strong sales run in the US, UK, and Australia over the Christmas period. The Nokia Lumia 800 still needs to be joined by a number of other competitive Windows Phone handsets before we are likely to see the OS (operating System) providing any real challenge to likes of Apple, Android, and Blackberry.”

The competitors of Samsung and Apple had to suffer in the last financial quarter of 2011. HTC had faced first quarterly profit decline in the last couples of years. Motorola Mobility was comprehensively collapsed in the Q4 last year, whereas, LG has scheduled to release its result on February 1 this year—reported two consecutive quarterly losses.

For Motorola and HTC, it’s really an appropriate time to frame their strategy to assert rivals like Apple. However, Motorola has recently announced that the company is going to focus on the selective models of their Smartphone and put the time to increase the dollars. Despite of availability of Android Operating System to multiple hardware makers, Apple’s iOS has defeated Android, which is only available on its own products. Recently, Morgan Stanley has estimated that Apple could sell as many as 40 million iPhones in China by 2013. Definitely, it will obnoxious for Apple’s rivals, but enthusiastic for Apple.
