Taking the view of number of users associated with Facebook and LinkedIn from India, Google has planned to ‘poach’ them by offering free Wi-Fi access to all Google+ users of India. Company has tied up with Wi-Fi provider O-Zone network to provide free Wi-Fi access to users. Enabling free Wi-Fi access to users is a sole marketing initiative which will help Google+ in trapping more number of users from India as in last few years India has resulted as one of the key player behind social media industry growth.
Google has taken such initiative in order to encourage people to use internet on their mobile as company is planning to launch Google mobile in coming years. Also, such step is taken to make users addicted towards Google+ and YouTube as these two arms of Google are facing stiff competition from its competitors in their respective market. Google+ is facing competition from Facebook and YouTube’s supremacy has been challenged by VEVO.
Google is also providing various other offers to Google+ users like users will get free 10 minutes internet access each week to watch videos on YouTube. They can avail this service in any part of the country where O-Zone Wi-Fi hotspots are available.
The specific offer will come in action by the weekend and will be available for continuous three months all across India at all O-Zone Wi-Fi hotspots. However, users need not worry as the talk between these two giants are on progress and it might be possible that time period could get extended once Google+ user from India surges up.
Currently, O-Zone has more than 5,000 Wi-Fi access points all across India and out of which half of them are at public locations like Hospitals, Hotel, Book Store, Restaurant, Photo Studio, Gymnasium etc. Also, O-Zone has registered a growth of 30 percent month-on-month in usage.
“This is a first-of-its kind promotional tie-up. This association between Google India and O-Zone Networks reinforces the fact that people are now realizing the power of Wi-Fi,” as said by Sanjeev (Bobby) Sarin, CEO, O-Zone Networks.
It’s really a significant step which will definitely help Google+ to improve the ‘engagement ratio’ of its Google+ user base as well as market position and brand value in front of Indian users. The present scenario states that Indian users have become the point of attraction for the social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. In last few years Indian users have emerged as one of the powered users over social networks.
Last but not the least providing free Wi-Fi access to users is one of the most innovative marketing concept introduced by Google and it might bring revolution in the field of internet services as well as social media. As more number of service provider will try to enter the market in collaboration with other social networking sites, users base as well as engagement ratio will improvise which will result in higher revenue for such network by ads.
