Number of fake profiles on social media titan Facebook has increased exponentially and users are in quandary. But, still they accept friends’ request based on some factors which is highlighted in a recent research by NM Incite – Nielsen McKinsey Company. Research reveals that numbers of innumerable factors are available on Facebook which help users to decide whether they should add or amass some friends in their network or not. It has been found out that near about 82 percent of friends in a network know each other in real life.
Research highlights that interaction between users on internet gives boost to online friendship. At the same time sales oriented and depressing comments cause the rise to removal of friend from the friends list. Users’ friendship also depends on several other factors like updates, number of friends, mutual friends, political comments and so many. Out of all these, mutual friendship plays an important role for a Facebook user to expand his network further. While political comments, irregular updates or any nuisance leads to ‘Unfriend’.
Social media activity on social networking site also depends on sex ratio. Men use social networking sites for careers/ networking and dating while women prefer it for creative outlet, to get coupons or discounts or to give positive feedback to pages. Also, men add friends on the basis of business networks, physical attractions compared to women who adds friends only of they know someone personally.
Personally, I think Facebook options have helped users a lot in knowing someone and in maintaining friendship. It has also help users in creating new connections with the help of online chatting and contacts. These options are the major reason why Facebook has grown so large in such a small period of time. But, Facebook also need to solve the issue of cyber crime which has increased drastically in last few years.
