Must Read

The buzz of Apple iPhone is not going to die down anytime soon – be it offline or online. This year Apple has launched the upgraded version of its revolutionary iPhone model – iPhone 4S. Though it was launched in last quarter of the year but the online world was already talking about this from July onwards. And, this has made iPhone (including 4S, 4 and 3GS) the most mentioned handset online in smartphone segment between July to December this year.

According to a Nielson, 66% of online people, talking about smartphone, mentioned iPhone in blogs, forum, discussion board, Facebook, Twitter and online new posts in last 6 months. Interestingly, about 60% of iPhone mentions were only about iPhone 4S, which was launched on October 4.

Android was the second most mentioned in online community with 23%, followed by BlackBerry with 10%. The extensive launch of various Android based handsets – especially from Samsung – has made the Android to stand just after iPhone. Similarly, BlackBerry Bold played a vital role for RIM to make people talk about it online that resulted in 10% of all online smartphone mentions.

However, Windows Phone 7 failed to lure online community despite of aggressive launch of its Lumia series. Only 1% of overall online community, talking about smartphone, mentioned Windows Phone 7.

Research was based upon online threads over blogs, message boards, social media and news site mentioning top 20 recently acquired smartphone handsets during the third quarter of 2011 and many of other handsets – like iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy Nexus – launched in fourth quarter of the year.
