Nano-SIM: The World’s Smallest And Thinnest SIM Has Debuted

Must Read

The world’s smallest SIM card: the nano-SIM  has presented by Giesecke & Devrient (G&D)- German technology company- on November 11, 2011. The nano-SIM is the world’s smallest SIM which could prove to be a platform for mobile phone manufacturers to produce more compatible and efficient devices. Company demonstrated the world’s smallest SIM card in a Paris trade show–CARTES & Identification 2011.

The head of G & D’ secure Device Division-Axel Deininger– claimed “The invention of the SIM card remains a milestone in the history of G&D. With the  nano-SIM, we have shown how this development can move closer to the perfection.”

G&D – a Munich based company- introduced first SIM to the world and continuously working on the same platform since 20 years. Presently, the company is working on the production of nano-SIM card to make the devices more efficient compare to previous ones.

The Size of nano-SIM is 30% smaller than the Micro-SIM and its thickness is also 50% lesser. The size of the SIM, as declared by the manufacturer, is approximately 12mm x 9mm, which could create incredible defy for the device manufacturers. Since, the SIM is very smaller and thinner than its previous micro-SIM, it would support manufacturers to create thinner devices. The company has provided the sample to various mobile networks operators and mobile manufacturers for testing and to know whether the SIM is feasible or not.

For the implementation, the SIM will have to go through different standardization and thereafter ETSI-European Telecommunication Standard Institution- would decide whether it should be implemented or not. However, it’s confirmed that that the nano-SIM might be come by the end of the year.

It’s clear that the success of the nan0-SIM would be the beginning of the new era of the telecommunication, when mobile devices will become more thinner, compatible and efficient.
