Google Drive Is Coming Soon To Compete With Dropbox And Box.net

Google is widening its feet in internet market. First it launched Chrome to provide competition to Firefox, then Chrome Operating System and in June it introduced Google+ – social media arm – to compete with other giants like Facebook and Twitter. Now company is on its way to launch another service called “Google Drive”, the most awaited feature of Google in coming few days.

However, in some Google accounts it’s present in the name of “Google Docs” as an option in the upper left hand side which is going to be replaced with “Drive” in coming few days. Folder menu will be called as “MyGoogle Drive“instead of “My Collections”.

The upcoming Google Docs will be full-fledged document management online virtual drive and will provide direct competition to other online storage services like Dropbox and Box.net. It will also have the ability to synchronize with local files.

The new Google Docs will be beneficial for users; it will acts as a virtual drive, will have the ability to store and share images, videos and PDF files and also comprise of some additional features such as spreadsheets, presentation and word processing documents. It will offer free storage of 1GB and next 20GB for $5 per year will be charged as compared to Dropbox which offers 2GB for free and $10 per month for next 50GB. Whereas Box.net offers 5GB for free and $10 per month for next 50 GB.

Lets see how this new Google Doc will help users and up to how extent it will give competition to Dropbox and Box.net.

  1. Wow Sept 26, 2011 you called it that Google Drive “coming few days”. It’s Feb 2, 2012 and still no “GDrive”. You sure called that one right one, NOT!!
