Chinese Workers Sentenced to 18 Months Jail for Leaking iPad2 Specs

Must Read

Surely, this is going to be an eye-opener for many who serve to global brands but take company’s ethics for granted. The three Chinese workers from the Foxconn manufacturing facility that produces Apple’s iPad tablets will be paying upto $23,000 as fine and will have to serve 18 months in prison for leaking specifications of device six months before the launch.

Trio alleged leaked the case design and dimensions of the case to one of the local iPad case manufacturing company who was looking to take a leap from other competitors by having an access to such business critical information in advance. All three employees, reportedly, had been paid $3,000 on individual level along with the discounts on merchandise from the case manufacturer.

Though, $3,000 doesn’t seem to be a such value-worth against leaking such critical information but in China most of the workers get paid somewhere between $250 – $300 for a month. A typical worker burn his oil minimum 80 hours in a week only at the cost of $5 – $75. Most of the workers stay inside the factory and perform at extra hours without being incentivized.

In such scenarios $3,000 equals to full one year salary and much lucrative offer for any of Chinese worker at their level. However, at the light of such exposer, they will have to cool their heels in jail for next 18 months and, of course, at the cost of their job.
