Five years ago on 15th day of this month three people came together to trigger the unique prototype of an online service only to provide a platform where people can network and share their thoughts in brief but comprehensive form. Today, the same company has been suspected worth $10 Billion which has more than 100 million users.
On March 21, 2006 Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, sent the first tweet and after five years there are more than 50 million tweets are getting counted every day. On the five years anniversary with enormous success, Twitter has released some interesting facts which defines the success road map of the company.
To reach from “one” to “billion” is always an overwhelming task for any company. Twitter is no exception. From the very first tweet on 21 March 2006 to billionth tweet which was keyed in on 22nd May 2009, twitter consumed 3 years 2 months and 1 day. Interestingly, now it takes only one week to consume one billion tweets and the company is counting more than 20 billion tweets now.
Falling into the nitty-gritty of the Tweet counts, on an average people used to sent 50 million tweets per day one year ago. However, 350% growth has been recorded in daily tweet count in just one year. On 11 March 2011, 177 million tweets were sent by all users in a single day.
Around one and a half-year back in June 2009 twitter recorded the exponential growth in tweets per second (TPS) when pop king Michal Jackson died. The news became so viral in few minutes that 456 tweets per second were recorded on 25 June 2009. Amazingly, just after 4 second of New year in Japan this year 6,939 tweets per second (TPS) shaken the Twitter platform to cope up with.
Analyzing the charm of users towards micro blogging service, Twitter has added 572,000 new users on March 12 2011. On an average 460,000 new accounts has been created per day in February 2011.
From three employees ( Co-founders) in 2006, Twitter has strengthen its human resources in gradual manner in last five years. 8, 29,130, 350, 400 are the number of employees Twitter managed in Jan 2008, Jan 2009, Jan 2010, Jan 2011 and today.
However, despite of such growth stories to talk about still there are few challenges which Twitter need to overcome. One of the major challenges is to provide a stable platform to all users across the diversified platform, admits Twitter CEO Dick Costolo.
