Will Facebook Supersede Google in 2011 [Analysis]

Must Read

As the year has reached to an end, debate has been revived over the dominance and supremacy of Internet. Indeed, there is only one company which can participate in such discussion, besides Google, and constantly challenging King of web for re-maneuver. Yes, we are talking about Facebook, an undisputed leader of online social networking industry, which is gradually moving closer to Google to dislodge from its Titan position from long.

Tough, both the companies follow different set of algorithms of search result production, ultimately its similar group of people who get engaged with both the tools and expect much more comprehensive results for their needs and queries. At a side where Google is following the traditional rule of search results production based on users web history, Facebook boasts a richer level of personalized results based upon person’s habits, interest and Likes on special network for a long period. These results convince the users in far better manner as they are “pre-related” with them indirectly.

“I think what we’ve found is that when you can use products with your friends and your family and the people you care about they tend to be more engaging,” Zuckerberg said in an interview with the CBS show “60 Minutes.”

According to Experian Hitwise, a leading research firm in 65 countries, “Facebook” remains as top-searched term consecutively in second year after 2009. Even, out of top 10 search team of 2010, four was related to Facebook. Biggest surprise is Facebook’s ascension to #1 on Hitwise’s list of most-visited websites in U.S. pulling down Google from Top position to second one. Yahoo mail, yahoo, YouTube, msn, MySpace, windows live, yahoo search and bind was the other Internet properties which sealed the places in top 10 most visited websites in U.S.

However, Google still remains cozy with the top spot when it comes to total number of unique visitors but visitors spend more time on Facebook in terms of number of pages each unique visitor explore, according to another traffic tracking firm ComScore. While on the other side, Google is still intact with the top spot with overall Google presence.

It’s not only the Internet search term where Google is lagging behind Facebook. Retention of quality man power is another challenge which Google is gradually loosing the battle. In last couple of years, especially in last 12 months, Google has lost many top executives to Facebook. Currently Facebook holds 10% of overall company’s man power which has drifted from Google.

Eventually, Google has found it difficult to sustain some sizable market share in social media either through Buzz or through recent initiatives. But that doesn’t mean that Google is going away. Infact the rise of social media is only going to complement Google for its online advertisement business. People are becoming more fascinated towards Internet and its advantages.

Despite of all such scenario, probably, after some time we all might be talking about Google’s growth with the help of Facebook education. You never know !
