Social Networking website Facebook is going to face its first true competitor from next month. An open source based Diaspora, with  similar look and feel as Facebook but devoid of the confusing privacy policies , has set a launch date as sometime next month. The new Social Networking player has opened up first code to developers to set a stage for any technically qualified developers to join them in order to built path breaking social networking website.

This is now a community project and development is open to anyone with the technical expertise who shares the vision of a social network that puts users in control. From now on, we will be working closely with the community on improving and solidifying Diaspora,” the team said in their blog

Based on Ruby, project does not claim to be completely bugged free at initial stage. People behind the project claims Diaspora allows people to Oauth to a new seed and move their entire account to the new seed, and then notify all of their contacts of the change, so people can move around seamlessly.

Diaspora will also inherit the services integration feature which will focus on people who are publishing to Facebook, Twitter, and OStatus enabled public sites, as well as being able to get their existing friends lists to help them find on Diaspora.

What is Different than Facebook ?

Diaspora aims to be a distributed network, where totally separate computers connect to each other directly, will let people connect without surrendering their privacy. As per Diaspora, these computers can be a hosted one by you, owned by you or rented by you. With this model people wont have to reveal or share any of their personal information to anyone.

Once it has been set up, the computer will aggregate all of your information: your Facebook profile, tweets, anything. Company is designing an easily extendable plugin framework for Diaspora, so that whenever newfangled content gets invented, it will be automagically integrated into every computer connected in network.

Basically a centralized application which will keep on fetching your tweets while you will still be able to see your Facebook newsfeed. There will be many more features in Diaspora which will allow people to have real experience of intra-portability system. One can upload an image to flicker and Diaspora will auto generate the tweet about that through caption & link. you can synchronize with other computer, within Diaspora network, over a direct and secure connection instead of through a superfluous hub.

All and all Company is trying to change the way people communicate on social media and probably a new ear is about to begin with Diaspora. However, it would be interesting to see how widely people accept the Diaspora and give a birth to new way of social communication system.
