Worldwide PC Shipments by Top Vendors by Quarter

The below graph represents the worldwide PC shipments by top vendors by quarter, starting from Q1 2010 to Q2 2020. HP, Lenovo, Dell Technologies, Apple and Acer Group are the top five companies dominating the global PC market as of June 2020. Interestingly, Apple recorded a strong 36% YoY growth in its Mac shipments, totalling 5.59 million units in Q2 2020.

The global traditional PC shipments, inclusive of desktops, notebooks, and workstations, totalled 72.3 million units in Q2 2020, according to IDC. This is an appreciable 11.2% year-over-year increase in the global PC shipments. HP, Lenovo, Dell Technologies, Apple and Acer Group are the top five companies dominating the global PC market as of June 2020.

The traditional PC industry experienced year-over-year growth in shipments in all major markets, including the United States, Canada, Japan, Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan) and Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), except Latin America.

Lenovo is currently dominating the worldwide PC market, with an impressive 24.8% share in Q4 2019. The company shipped about 17.8 million units of PCs, with 6.5% YoY growth. The growth was primarily driven by some large commercial bids the company won, such as the ELCOT project in India.

HP stands at second in the global PC market, with 23.9% market share. The company shipped about 17.2 million PC devices in Q4 2019, globally. Interestingly, HP experienced positive YoY growth in its PC shipments in the United States, EMEA and Japan.

Dell Technologies remained the world’s third-largest PC company in terms of shipments. With a healthy 10.7% YoY growth, the company shipped 12.5 million units of personal computers during the fourth quarter of 2019.

Apple currently holds a 6.6% share in the worldwide PC market as of December 2019. The Cupertino giant has been witnessing the year-over-year decline in its MAC shipments worldwide for the last few quarters. In Q4 2019, Apple shipped 4.7 million units of MAC devices, with 5.3% YoY decline. In fact, Apple’s Mac volumes declined YoY in all four quarters of 2018 and three quarters of 2019, except Q2 2019. Surprisingly, in the second quarter of 2019, the company summed up to nearly 4.1 million units, registering an impressive 9.6% YoY growth.

Surprisingly, Apple and Acer Group were the only among the top 5 PC companies who witness a YoY decline in its global shipments in Q4 2019. Acer PC shipments declined 4.2% YoY to 4.37 million units.
