Google Pixel 3A: The Best Smartphone in $400 Segment Already?

Must Read

The price of Google Pixel 3A is making people jump out of their seat, especially after realising the powerful specification available at this price. Reviewers and industry experts are quick to tag Google 3A as the best smartphone in $400 segment!

The $400 segment of smartphones is one of the fastest growing segments currently. More and more budget smartphone brands are trying to enter the segment with new models. However, at the same time, companies which are usually involved in making premium or ultra-premium segment of smartphones have also set their eyes on the fast-growing segment.

This is especially true in the case of Google and its Pixel smartphones. The premium segment version of their ultra-premium smartphone Pixel 3, Google Pixel 3A is widely judged as the best smartphone in the segment. Considering the fact that it has just been launched this month, being considered the best in such a competitive segment is commendable as it is.

Google Pixel 3A vs Pixel 3

Despite the fact that the Pixel 3 is priced at almost double that of Pixel 3A, the latter surprisingly offers a lot of the same features as the former. For starters, it comes in two standard sizes to choose from. While the Pixel 3 has a 5.5″ display, the Pixel 3A has a 5.6″ display while the Pixel 3A XL has a 6″ display. The aspect for all the above models stays the same at 18:9. The most surprising aspect is the fact that the Pixel 3A series has the same 12.2 MP rear camera as that of the flagship variant. The only difference is Google Pixel Visual Core coprocessor that is missing in the cheaper variants present in the pricier variant.

The Pixel 3A series does come with 3.5mm headphone jack, something which the Pixel 3 lacks.

best smartphone in $400 segment

On a look and craftmanship Google Pixel 3 indeed score on Pixel 3A series. While the Pixel 3 offers a metal frame with the back made of glass, the Pixel 3A series smartphones have an outer covering completely made out of plastic. The cheaper variants lack the second front-facing speaker and have a single front-facing camera of 8 MP resolution as compared to the dual camera variant present in the Pixel 3. Asahi’s Dragontrail glass covers the top of the display, which can’t be considered as strong as Corning’s Gorilla Glass. While both have an octa-core processor, the Pixel 3A duo operates on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 670 as compared to the Snapdragon 845 placed under the hood of Pixel 3.

Despite all these differences, the Pixel 3A is a great option in the $400 segment. The selling point of this device is the rear camera set-up. It offers the exact same settings as that of the pricier Pixel 3, which is supposedly considered one of the best cameras in the ultra-premium segment as well. To have such a powerful camera at almost half the price can well be considered by many as a bargain in itself.

The Sub-$400 Segment Competition

While the Pixel 3A is impressive, it is not the only product in the $400 segment category. One of the reasons is down to the fact that it signifies the starting point of the premium segment of smartphones, which has shown a significant 18% growth year on year in 2018. Apple continues to lead the $400 premium smartphone segment, while OnePlus is the fastest growing brand. A lot of major OEMs like Nokia and Motorola make products catering to the sub-$400 category. While the likes of Moto G7 and Nokia 7.1 do provide value for money, none of them stands anywhere when compared to the overall smartphone experience provided by the Pixel duo.

Undoubtedly, Google Pixel 3A appears the best smartphone in the $400 segment. While it may be too early to come out with the detailed review of Pixel 3A by anyone – barring those who review sitting in  – it’s certain that the jaw-dropping price of Pixel 3A makes it one of the most wannabe Android smartphones available in the market nowadays. And, the offer on Pixel 3A provided by any of the e-commerce platform, likes of Amazon, is no less than a cherry on the cake!
