As the graph shows, Twitter has always been generating a significant amount from its advertising segment, followed by Data licensing and other.

It was Q4 2018 when Twitter’s ad revenue reached record-high $791.36 million, registering 87.1% of the company’s total revenue in the quarter. The advertising revenue grew an impressive 22.8% when compared to the same period a year ago.

After not-so-encouraging quarterly growth in 2017, Twitter’s advertising revenue in 2018 once again paints the promising picture. Overall, Twitter posted an impressive 24% YoY growth in its annual advertising revenue, clocking $2.61 billion in 2018.

In Q1 2011, Twitter ad revenue accounted for nearly 64.5% of the company’s total revenue, bringing in $11.56 million. By the end of Q4 2011, the share of Twitter ad revenue to the company’s overall quarterly revenue increased to 79.09%, amounting to $32.59 million in revenue.

In Q1 2013, Twitter’s quarterly advertising revenue crossed the $100 million mark for the first time in history. Out of the total $114.3 million, a whopping 87.86% or $100.46 million Twitter generated from its advertising business. Interestingly, the ad revenue got doubled by the end of 2013.

Within the following four quarters, Twitter recorded nearly 100% growth in its advertising revenue once again. Twitter’s quarterly advertising revenue reached $432 million by the end of Q4 2014.
