Apple iPhone 8 Will Reportedly Have A Premium Version, Would Be Called ‘iPhone Edition’

Must Read

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may not be launching iPhone 8 at all; Instead, the upcoming iPhone, reportedly set for launch later this year, would be called “iPhone Edition“. According to the latest report from Japanese website Mac Otakara, Apple has decided to go with different naming convention to distinguish iPhone 8 from iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus. Apple could introduce the successors of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 alongside iPhone 8 this year.

The new name of iPhone 8 also signals the more powerful hardware components under the hood, and would also cost more to buyers. It is similar to what Apple has done with Watch Series. Last earlier Apple introduced two versions of Watch – Apple Watch Series 2 and Apple Watch Edition, the latter one carrying the ultra premium quality of body material and craftsmanship.

It’s a clear sign that iPhone Edition would be price tagged more than $1000, to make the 10th anniversary of iPhone more memorable and exciting.

The report also mentions about the different prototypes Apple is currently testing besides iPhone 8. The major testing is with the display as Apple is willing to introduce the upcoming iPhone with OLED or AMOLED display to counter the growing competition from Samsung Galaxy S7, and upcoming Galaxy S8 and Google Pixel 2 smartphones.

The possibility of Apple introducing iPhone Edition is also high in the wake of other reports which claim the existing of upcoming iPhone with both LCD and OLED display. According to KGI Securities and Wall Stree Journal, Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch iPhone with LCD display along with a premium version of iPhone 8 will sport OLED display.

However, among all the rumours and reports, the features one could be certain of are 5-inch display, wireless charging and dual-camera in iPhone 8.

The Possible Delay of iPhone 8

Apple is trying and testing too many features and possible enhancements to make the upcoming iPhone 8 adorable. On the flip side, all these testing and enhancements could result in the delay of iPhone launch. As we mentioned earlier, one of the major causes for the possible delay in the launch of iPhone 8 could be the production issue surrounding new features.

The second biggest challenge to launching iPhone Edition could be the availability of OLED display in numbers. Apple is widely expected to introduce curved OLED display in one of the upcoming iPhone. The high-tech OLED display, however, is manufactured by only a few selected companies. These displays are high in demand considering Samsung Galaxy 8 is reportedly going to sport a similar display.

So, in the wake of all rumours, report and possibility here are some of the qualified scenarios that market may experience:

  • Apple launches iPhone 8 with LED display in September.
  • Apple launches iPhone 8 with OLED display in September
  • Apple launches another iPhone Edition with curved OLED and premium finish in December 2017.
  • Apple launches iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus in September, iPhone 8 in December and iPhone Edition in Feb/March 2018.
  • Apple launches iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus in September, iPhone 8 and iPhone Edition in December 2017.

The possibility could be anything, but one thing is certain; Apple is going to rock the market with the most innovative iPhone made by the company ever. And, if Tim Cook and Team fails to match – if can’t beat – the market expectations, the fiscal 2017 – 2018 is going to be the most difficult for Apple considering he just lost $1.5 million in compensation following the below than expected sales of iPhone in 2016.
