After lots of rumors, speculations and guesses, apparently, it’s confirmed that “Google X Phone” is taking shape secretly in association with Motorola, to beat the constant growing challenges and possible upcoming competition. A recent job posting for a “Sr Director Product Management” for Motorola at LinkedIn clearly portraits what’s cooking inside Motorola (and Google).
It’s not the first time when rumors about “X Phone” are taking shape over internet. However, never before there was any related information available from Motorola / Google which could have direct influence over such speculations.
The job posting states “It’s what we call a Motorola Powered future and we’re making the devices that do more, so people can do more.”
Google X Phone: Motorola To Revive ?
Definitely, it’s also not the first time when Motorola is making any phone; but it’s the very first incident when Motorola is looking so aggressive with Sr. executive hiring specially post-acquisition by Google. In fact, the job-posting doesn’t spill any more beans on type of product, name or specification but this could easily be understood due to nature of early stage development. Besides, post also doesn’t addresses requirements as directly connect with “X-Phone”. However, with so much of buzz since last few weeks is enough to understand the true profile of the designated position at Motorola.
Google never spoke anything about any such phone which is under development as it could jeopardize its stand with current Android partners like HTC and Samsung. In fact, being as the biggest shipper of smartphones in the world, Samsung has already ‘smelled the rat’ apparently. Consequently, its recent extra-ordinary interest in Tizen OS – being built by Intel – is being considered as well calculated move by industry analysts.
On the other side, everything is not well with Motorola too. In recent years Motorola had to have tough time with its Smartphone launches. Despite of enormous growth and widely adoption of android OS, Motorola failed to capitalize over users’ interest. In fact the company never had any serious business relationship with Google (pre-acquisition) unlike Samsung and LG which leveraged upon Nexus releases.
As a stand-alone entity, Motorola is going through rough patches, and to turn the table around, it needs a flagship device to reinvigorate its golden era in Smartphone space. Whether it be “X Phone” or some other device, the anticipation towards the first launch, after Google’s acquisition, is going to be there.
Update: Motorola has quickly pulled the job listing down from LinkedIn but is still hanging on its own site; Though, doesn’t look like it’s going to be there for long.
