India: Over 6.49 Million New GSM Users In April 2012 [Report]

In India, over 6.86 million new users connected to GSM networks in March of this year, taking its baseline to more than 664 million. However, additions of new users in April of this year were 6.49 million, somewhat lesser than the prior month, but it was another spanking month in perspective of GSM. India reached to 670.5 million GSM connections in April of this year.

 

In April, Airtel had highest number of subscribers, 183.29 million, followed by Vodafone, Idea, BSNL and Aircel with 151.28 million, 114.21 million, 94.68 million and 63.59 million users respectively.

In April of this year, Airtel led with 2.01 million new users, followed by Idea, Uninor, Aircel and Vodafone with 1.49 million, 1.12 million, 1.01 million and 0.82 million users respectively.

In the above chart, it ‘s clearly mentioned that Airtel dominated the market with 27.33% share in April of this year, followed by Vodafone, Idea and BSNL with 22.56%, 17.03% and 14.12% shares respectively.

 

The above chart explains how linearly GSM subscribers base is augmenting month-over-month. During six-months period, subscribers’ base has mounted up from 632 million in November 2011 to 670 million in April of this year. There was a 0.98% increment in GSM subscribers in April of this year compare to the prior month.

 

Among metros, Kolkata recorded highest numbers new subscribers in April, but total GSM connections plunged by 0.71% in this month compare to the prior month. However, there was an increase of 0.12% in overall connections in metro region in April of this year. Chennai was at the top with 0.70% increment in April compare to March, followed by Delhi and Mumbai with 0.28% and 0.22% increment respectively.

North East region recorded highest growth in the month of April this year with 2.05%, followed by Orissa, Gujarat and Assam with 1.70%, 1.66% and 1.54% respectively. Kolkata was the only region where number of subscribers were declined in April compare to the last previous month. UP (E) recorded highest number of addition in April, 0.84 million, followed by Bihar with 0.72 million addition in the month compare to March of this year.
