Google Unveils Nexus S – First Phone Ever to Run on Android 2.3 [Official Video]

At the time when mobile industry is witnessing the major shift from technology stand point, Google is incubating the competition furthermore with the launch of new upgrades and more sophisticated mobile handsets.

In the same row, Google has finally unveiled Nexus S – first ever Smartphone which runs on company’s new born baby in mobile platform technology- Android 2.3, well known as Gingerbread. At the same time, within 24 hrs of such launch, Google has also officially launched the developer edition of Android 2.3.

The nexus S is touted to be the successor of Google’s first phone – Nexus One. Loaded with Android’s latest version 2.3, handset maintains 4” contour Display with 1 Ghz Hummingbird processor, 5 Mp Camera, a VGA camera on the front and 16 GB of internal memory. People won’t have to wait too long as its expected to go on sales from December 16 in U.S. & U.K. market. The phone will be priced $199 with 2 yrs contract by T-Mobile. The unlocked version of Nexus S is expected to be available in India with approximate cost of Rs.21,000.

The Nexus S is loaded with the newly much appreciated Android 2.3 OS. The new OS powers handsets with much refined UI for simplicity and speed. Company claims the new OS much faster, and improved power consumption cautious. The new keypad has been faster and text inputs are more intuitive than older version. A new shortcut has been defined to manage & have better control over applications.

The new copy-paste functionality has been introduced in new version with single click & selection. From the voice functionality stand point, the new OS maintains the tight integration with VoIP and better download manager.

Apparently, Google is working exceptionally well on various fronts as there are many new launch has been scheduled in next coming days. Be it Chrome Web Store or Chrome OS, like many such roll out plans, next few days are going to be interesting for the company and for people both.

  1. Trust, there are significant performance shifts from 2.2 to 2.3. I have just downloaded the SDK and screwing up my current handset for 2.3. There are other differences which I have mentioned.

    However, you concern over the price is justified as there are handsets with 2.2 at the cost of 25 – 30K. Despite, there won’t be any major uprise in price of Nexus S as Google always kept Nexus range much competitive.

  2. Not really revolutionary for current casual/business oriented smartphone users, maybe apart from NFC support. Android 2.3’s major improvements are geared towards gamers. There’s also little perceptible changes between Froyo’s and Gingerbread’s UI. Anyhow I’d be interested to find out whether your prediction for the 21.5K price point holds true when it’s launched in India, I think it will be more expensive than that, since, spec-wise it’s almost identical to the Galaxy S, with the addition of a six-axis gyro and NFC chip. The Galaxy S costs 30K approx.
